Mag release extension

Hi all,

Very quick question, I am trying to import from the USA an extended magazine release for my rifle.

Do I need any sort of licence to import it?

Have a gander at paragraph (1b) of Article 1 here:

"breach-closing mechanism, the chamber and the barrel of a firearm", so magazine release would not be an essential component and thus no import permit required.

Now I dunno if this part falls under ITAR, it might depending on price, and so the shop may not export it, but that is a different kettle of fish ;)

Part not available in Europe I presume?

No. Your firearms license is your "import" license. Have it posted and if its flagged or stopped by customs you need only show them your firearms license. A court case last year helped soften the path for others to do this.

Would this be the same for other firearm components too?

what’s the story with USA allowing export of firearm components? Want to order a hand guard for shotgun from USA.

I did recently order/receive a “quiver” via address pal but felt I was chancing it.

A mag release is, tchnically, a firearm component.

As for the US allowing the export, thats up to the US. ITAR retrictions will apply to some items and some companies may choose whether to export or not based on their own plicies or if they want to pay for the export license.

The Quiver would have been fine.

When using AddressPal seller is not exporting. They ship to an address in USA. I think the “An Post” depot/handler in New York checks content of packages. Mine has been opened and resealed but could have been IE customs.

So its not a functioning bit of the firearm or is needed to make it work . Should be no problem to import. The US has restrictions on things like Receivers,uppers, lowers,bolts, bolt actions, barrels, mags above 10 round capacity,select fire trigger mechanisms and components.,certain types of stocks and fore grips[usually assault rifle patterns in bulk] certain types of sights and scopes.after that its pretty much good,[as there is hardly anything left].

IOW if it is something you hang on the gun,the US will pretty much export it.Just be aware of local Irish laws on it.
