Towing boat from Buncrana to Athlone

    Hi all,

    I am taking ownership of a Seahog Alaska 500xl this weekend.

    The kicker is it all the way in Buncrana Co Donegal. I'll be travelling from Athlone to collect it.

    It's sitting on an Indespension rollercoaster 1 single axle trailer.

    So far I have gotten a spare wheel, new magnetic lights, extra ratchet straps, will be picking up some marine grease and will have a full set of tools with me


    What else should I consider before making the trip?

    I would recommend you bring new ball races grease and disposable gloves and regrease the trailer hubs before leaving Buncrana. Its a quick job.

    Are you talking about the bearings?

    Is it easy to remove the bearings on those?

    I had intended on greasing the hubs before leaving, would probably make a quick stop every 30 min or so on the way home to check all is OK.

    Handheld laser thermometer is a handy job to keep track of bearing and tyre temps.

    Yes the bearings. Good plan to regularly check them on the way back. Its anyones guess how hard it is to remove them , it depends on how well maintained they were by the previous owner.

    Ah right yep I get you.

    Wheel bearings is probably not something I could tackle at the roadside, so will have to take the risk.


    Is there anything else i be thinking about.

    I'm going to give the whole thing a once over before leaving.
