    Those who lived to see it can tell of hot summers in the 1940's, 50's, 60's 70's, etc.

    Climate change is a real thing, but this RTE big shot clown is just virtue signalling.

    RTE kicking themselves because they missed out on a chance to follow suit with the rest of the world (or the UK, USA and Germany)

    They are currently falling over themselves to find minorities to employ that are also related to staff in there.

    They aren't yet sure what their opinion on that is.

    Probably looking for a €10 million budget increase from government to have an extreme weather department where they will send notifications to every home in the country to put on Factor 50.

    I wouldn't mind but they regularly feature complete unchallenged one way trash on Eco Eye and Room To Improve where they classify homes with wood burning stoves in built up areas as sustainable or try to make an €80k insulation upgrade on a home currently using less than €2k in total a year to heat itself as a viable investment.

    Sunny days in Ireland have now been "cancelled" - or in the eyes of RTE this is too much like good news we, have to make the populace feel guilty for 5 days of sunshine among the 360 other days of rain. Hell covid is becoming a thing of the past so we need something new to whip people with

    And they let Dee stay on another 2 years to complete cost cutting measures, cost cutting measures that have never happened and never will, in fact a new boss would be the one more likely to implement the measures

    The planet isn't dieing, its been through far worse. Its maybe getting rid of an infection but the planet will still be alive long after humans are extinct.

    well, this thread gets off to a flying start. the thread title is adulterated to say something the title in the newspaper doesn't actually say, and nothing quoted in the article suggests that he was talking about recent irish weather.

    if you'd cared to actually find the article the chap in question wrote, he's referring to events almost all outside ireland.

    that's a meaningless statement; it possibly implies - but does not state - a causal link between ireland's heatwave and his statement, but says nothing about his actual statement. you cannot blame him for whatever lazy phrasing the journalist used.

    i'd say here it's the indo which you should be criticising, rather than him, assuming you copied the original headline verbatim into the thread title.

    if you yourself changed it, the fault is yours. you must have wilfully read into it what you wanted to read into ti.

    Mate, I put the title on the thread. I know boards is dying a fast death for various reasons, some due to overly fussy moderators, but I wasn't aware that a thread referring to a news article in After Hours had to have the same headline as the linked article.

    Did you even read the article he posted? Clearly not. He explicitly references the recent extreme weather events in Canada, the US, and Germany. Where did you get the notion this has anything to do with Ireland's recent warm spell? Virtue signalling indeed! 🙄

    No doubt in my mind that climate change is a real thing and only idiots and oil barons will deny it.

    However, we have always had and will always have weather.

    Ireland’s highest ever recorded temperature was back in 1887 long before Global warming was an issue.

    The recent heatwave only lasted about 10 days, and we’ve had longer warm summers in 2013, 2006. 1995 and 1976 which were wall to wall sunshine for a few months. All to do with weather not climate change.
