Anyone win anything nice in the most recent IWA auction.

I managed to get a Nikka from the Barrel and a Two Stacks Blenders cuts. for €120 inc commissions

Tried the Nikka and i must say it's all kinds of strange, there's peat in there, a lot of sweetness and it's a lovely dram. I'll try another drop tonight and see how it goes.

@Cazale how did you get access to the Boann Tasting? Wouldn't mind giving it a try.

Just had a look there, €46. Better than the shop price anyway.

I was asking if it was being discontinued, as I thought it had some scotch in it, but I could be wrong about that.

I enjoyed it. A short tour but plenty of free parking and we got to try two of their gins and the whiskey. They make vodka too and I spotted a deal on the way out where you spend X amount online and get a free ticket for the tour. A bit late then as I'd already spent 150 quid in the gift shop haha

Had a look in T2’s whisky section.

The only deal I saw was Glenmorangie Duthac (A travel expression) at 40% off. Below normal retail by a decent margin.

Couple of other odd choices at 20% off like Royal Salute, Scapa.

Pricing in general was significantly worse than off licence prices. Lagavulin 16 was 89 / 109 (Non EU / EU). I LOLd.

Irish whiskey pricing looked more normal but in general it’s a tourist trap.

RB12 was 36.80 for non-EU. Raging I can't grab it today. The lack of click and collect desk is a bawlls.

Also, a litre of the Hennessy XO is 117. There's bargains there alright.

Yeah, I think it's about 60/65 normally.

I picked up a bottle for around €40 last year in France, but it's still unopened.

Tonight, opened a small bottle of Tormore 17 year old… 46% abv.

Relatively young distillery …Big Industrial effort.

This is a fairly rough and ready 17 year old but it’s complex, like a flawed pal that is irritating but still worth having about.

In Portugal for a bit. Took advantage of local pricing, picked up a bottle of Lagavulin 16 and Elijah Craig Small Batch. Not a truly shocking saving compared to Ireland but approximately 32 euro less, not bad.

Johnny Walker, Cardhu and J&B are absolutely everywhere.

Hi Whisky and Whiskey lovers

heading to Edinburgh with the car for a few nights. Am a big fan of Scottish single Malts. Hoping to pick up a few bottles that are in the €40 to €70 price bracket. Have a bit of a collection from a visit in the car to Andora a while back. Some of my favs are The Balvenie, Arbelour, Oban, Talisker. I suppose a few recommendations of ones that I might find hard to get in Ireland or ones that are expensive here that I might pick up cheaper.

Not many bargains to be had off the shelf in Edinburgh or Glasgow whisky shops, it’s more the greater availability that is appealing really. You can get a lot of single cask bottlings and whatnot, and in general stuff you won’t see in Ireland.

If you want to save money in the Uk versus Ireland then it’s the supermarkets and look for what’s on sale, something usually is. But it’ll be fairly limited compared to what you’ll see on the shelves in a specialist store.

Visit Cadenhead's on the Royal Mile they have a collection of 20cl cask strength bottles as well as larger bottles. They also have a nice 12 year old Cooley that you can't get in Ireland.

The Royal Mile Whisky shop has something for all budgets and are very friendly if you ask for advice.

Check the supermarkets for deals before you come over.

If you want to try some stuff head over to the Athletic Arms which is really good value and has a good selection.
