Ah hopefully the suspense will be short lived, be nice to know one way or the other so i can put it to bed and focus on the 2021 application. It is a very dragged out process and so many have kept their hopes up only to be dashed at the final hurdle.

But you don’t have to worry about that now, it’s all behind you. Hoping you get appointed to a nice Dept with interesting work :-)

Well done :) I also made the panel. Delighted and its looks like they aren't too far from the end of the last panel so hopefully won't be waiting too long. I'm expecting a summer slow down too though.

etary is impossible to predict! Fingers crossed for a happy outcome :)

Well done and Congratulations!!! Great news to get and the hard work on your side was worth it in the end. While the usual thing is to expect a summer slow down, I have heard unofficially PAS have made more inroads on the last panel and were as far as 15 on the InterD as of yesterday (only heard that from another source with no confirmation of how far into the Open Panel they are). But I would expect further movement and for this panel to be exhausted before too long and then on to the next one.

    thanks! :)

I have heard through a colleague that they were up to mid-20s on open and mid teens in InterD as of Monday. They placed about 11 people between me getting an update last week and Monday!Looks to be about 11 left on last open panel and 5 left on last interD before they start on latest batch. I'm high enough on it so will update as i hear :)

PAS confirmed same to me this week. Looks like it is moving a little quicker now.

I got through too after what I felt was a tough interview. I am placed in the early teens on the InterD. Including the existing panel they are working off there’s around 20 in front of me. Would it be realistic to say I will be appointed eventually? I’m not sure whether or not to apply for the 2021 competition.

Well done on making the panel. If Dublin is one of your options then i would say you will definitely be appointed. The new 2021 competition is in anticipation of them not being able to fill upcoming vacancies there from the current competition.

Firstly congratulations on getting through and on an excellent placing :-) Like you initially felt it was a tough interview but saw positives as the long wait went on and definitely worth the effort after such an arduous process. I am number 17 in the InterD and 31 on the Open Panel so expect to hear in next few days. On the rate of movement on this batch in the last week the existing panel should be exhausted soon enough and given (i) the current rates of retirements and other movements i.e PO promotions, (ii) the fact that there is another batch behind you at etray stage and (iii) that appointments will be made from this competition to March 31st next year it is likely to be a question of when (imagine less than a month) and not if with regards to you being appointed. Think it is not needed to apply for 2021 competition but you could always throw in an application and withdraw at a later stage.

Thanks guys appreciate the advice. I don’t mind waiting if they get to me eventually.

Between both batches there is about 20 ahead of me on the Open and about half that on InterD so I'm thinking if I don't hear by end July then it will likely be Sept. I'm also considering throwing in an application to the new one.. just in case I'm not happy with what i get. It's good to have options.

Are you hoping to stay in your own Dept or move? Are there vacancies in your dept? Curious about who is hiring at the mo.

Just to update you further have received a provisional offer from open panel today (D/Health) having reached early 30's on that panel while also have potential option of InterD Panel where PAS have almost reached me (15 at last update). Have to make some decisions within the coming days. Decisions to be made next week but can't complain with options being on the table for the moment.

Fantastic, that didn’t take long at all! Congrats.

Sorry if this has been asked already! I’m reading the information booklet and it says a third level qualification is only desirable! Ive enough management experience but never thought could apply for this because HEO and EO you need the higher qualification! Does anyone know why that’s the case?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 339 ✭✭Cheeseplant

I have never seen HEO/EO comps having a qualification as essential requirement.. are these perhaps for specialised competitions? As far as I understand it, AP is general service so while 3rd level education might be desirable, it is not essential as you will likely end up in a section polar opposite to anything you have studied!

wow! fair play! I take it that D Health is a move for you? (sorry, don't want to put you in position to reveal too many personal details!). Starting to panic a bit now as there really can't be that many ahead of me now (waiting on a PAS update).. THIS SH!T IS GETTING REAL :D

Yes D/Health is the offer I have from open panel and may also get InterD offer (which could be different) before making any final decision. Yes moving fast with panels but clearance also takes time after that. Have to say would have very happy to be in this position if offered it at time of application in April 2020 :-)

That's my understanding, too. Minimum of X honours in the Leaving Cert for EO/HEO competition (a bloody stupid requirement in and of itself!), while AP competition only suggests that 3rd level is desirable.

Then there are loads of individual competitions for HEO/HEO-equivalent and AP/AP-equivalent roles advertised all the time on publicjobs where some HR guru has slapped on a degree requirement, just because - "IT Helpdesk Manager, minimum 5 years experience, relevant degree required (HEO scale)"

ok great.. i actually didn't realise that I could get both open and InterD offer. I presumed just the one and tough if you don't want it. That is very handy to know!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Smart1982

I wonder if anyone in this thread can confirm if the Open offer and Inter D offer are available at the same time or do you have to turn one down to get the other?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 Tweets

Previously open EO and HEO comps would have a requirement to have a degree level qualification. The Interd and Open comps would require a minimum of 2 years service in the CS also. It was changed a fair few years back in favour of evidence of relevant experience.

Most comps now don’t require a degree.

Aside from health and environment, anyone any idea what other depts are putting in requests,?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 Tweets

From what I’ve heard most Departments have requests in. Usually, Revenue, Social Welfare have the highest numbers so dominate requests but Health in current climate likely to also be priority.

If you have an interest in a particular Dept it might be worth expressing that to PAS by email. It can’t always be taken into consideration but if it can it they’ll have it noted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 339 ✭✭Cheeseplant

Thanks. Can you express an interest in more than one? I have an EOI against my current Dept but there are others I'd like. Would the smaller Depts; Higher Ed & Research, Arts, Culture Heritage be likely to be taking on anyone I wonder? Equally, there are places I don't want to go! But I probably can't tell PAS that :D

Does anyone know what the procedures are for releasing people on promotion from one department to another. I have heard something about a 4 week rule but does anyone know what it is specifically.
