Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Don't know why I thought that lol. Yes he barely scrapped through is right. My mistake. Tsunado is who I meant to put there.

    Well done George!

    He's lightning quick, is George.

Great lap from Russell, completely outperforming that car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 466 ✭✭Probes

Wow, if Russell doesn’t get that Mercedes drive it’s a travesty, what more can he do? 3 tenths behind Bottas.

What a lap by Russell. Wow

Watching his lap here now. He's not even getting a tow either. All him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,878 ✭✭✭✭klose

Russell getting points for Williams seems like it's a matter of when rather than if seeing as he's improving week on week.

Props to Williams team itself, car obviously getting faster as we go on.

0.01 off Perez. I know Checo can go quicker but still

Big messy numbers on the front noses of the ferraris look like they’ve been painted with a fat paint brush lol.

Hamilton is ahead in Q3 so far with a 1.26.1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,542 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Verstappen is not happy with the balance in his car.

Well done George for getting ahead of the 2 Ferrari drivers for now at least.

Hamilton went a bit sloppy at the last lap but he takes the pole for the sprint race tomorrow.

Verstappen was very close though with 0.075 behind Hamilton.

That was some roar all the same.

Why Red Bull didn’t give Max a tow like Hamilton was given I’m not sure.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Even though his second run wasn't an improvement Hamilton was flying, he could have gone much faster but for the mistake. Verstappen had no answer for him

I'd also be wondering why Perez is so far off the pace. Bottas is only a tenth and a half off pole but Perez is nowhere near even if he didn't lose his last lap.

That performance from Bottas will fly under the radar. He was very quick.

Let him have it. Its only a Sprint race anyway. 30mins lol that's nothing. It should have been an hour long.

Well done to Lewis. Max not quiet 100 per cent this weekend.

Well done to George Russell. He done great.

    Was a good session.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Looks like Mercedes have the pace this weekend alright, will max be tempted to race Hamilton for P1 tomorrow? Certainly gives it an interesting dynamic.

Great qually, WTF have they done to boards, so hard to navigate and even find this bloody thread. Looking forward to tomorrow's sprint race trial!

Great to see how much Lewis is appreciated in the real world.

All this fawning is ridiculous. He had a car that had such a big advantage he could completely mess up and throw away 4 tenths and still get pole. Mercedes have always dominated at Silverstone, it’s much more of a car circuit than the run of unusual tracks we’ve had like Baku and Austria. Will be interesting to see what Verstappen and Red Bull can do with strategy to try and make a race of it.

3 points for winning the sprint race too? Could be important come the end of the season.

It's his home race, what else did you expect 😂

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

Why are you acting like there has been nothing different about this season?

The Red Bull is at very least on par with the Mercedes all season at every track and you're continuing with this charade that Mercedes is still miles clear of everything else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,542 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

George is delighted with that result while he spoke to DC on Channel 4.

    Every track?

The 2nd half of the season should favour Mercedes even assuming they don't make developments. Which of course they have this weekend.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

Watching Russell and Chandhok analyse his lap just now and his style is so similar to Kimi in his pomp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

Bottas is the third worst driver on the grid according to some posters. Lol.

Yeah very good performance from Bottas. Perez was a full 6 tenths off his teammate. For reference, that's the same as the gap between Russell and Latifi and double the gap between Schumacher and Mazepin. Pretty embarrassing for Perez but not totally unexpected for him to be that far off his teammate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,916 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

Cooler temps gave Merc that pace in qualy.

Should be a close race (not the sprint), still favour RB to have the pace overall on Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

Cooler temps today? Temps were in the mid-high 20s today. Hottest day of the year in parts of England.

If anything, the Mercedes prefer the hotter temps which helps them get heat into the tyres. So your overall point is probably true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,833 ✭✭✭NufcNavan

I know I should wait til the weekend is finished, but I already don't like this experimental format. Maybe it would be better if Qualy and the sprint were on the same day, but it feels all very drawn out over 3 days and IMO suits the big teams.

Yeah, qualy and the race is already a large time commitment. This all seems largely needless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,878 ✭✭✭✭klose

I think the 3 days you mention are ultimately F1s plans, have an "event" each day and boost ticket sales for Friday (which I assume are the lowest gates of the 3 days)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

It's more about boosting TV sales value through increased viewership and ad revenue.

Ticket sales are only for the tracks. TV sales are for Liberty Media.

But you're right that it's about making it a 3 day show. As it stands the friday is only watched by the hard-core fans and its on during the work day. Quali is on after work day so it's worth watching. It will increase the count of eyeballs watching f1 over the course of a weekend

Whats the point of fp2 today. Not like they’ll be changing the car set up. Seems pretty pointless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,009 ✭✭✭thefa

Data gathering on tyres and more for the race tomorrow I’d imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,788 ✭✭✭Trampas

Only allowed drive on one set. Could be a bore feast

I like that I get to see qualifying, sprint race and the full race live normally I only get to see the race live

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,891 ✭✭✭Hijpo

I wonder how much of an impact it has on team preparations. They would have had everything scheduled in a set order over a weekend so everything goes smooth.

If you had a car issue in FP1 or FP2 you had 24 hours to sort it without much impact, you just miss another practice session. Now if you have an issue in FP1 you could miss getting a grid position in quali which screws you getting a good grid position for the sprint, which doesn't bode well for the grid for the race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

Yeah that's ideal. The races we had recently where the teams had less free practice (imola and Germany when it was rained off) have provided less predictable races. Less predictable races is viewed as a great thing except this specific instance when trying to sh1t on the sprint race before it happens. Need to sh1t on it early in case it's actually good.

Just give it a few years until its a tradition and the same people who oppose it's introduction will oppose its removal for exactly the same reason - they don't like change.

F1 fans have no problem with boring procession races as long as its a traditional procession, Monaco anyone?

  • Registered Users Posts: 340 ✭✭Zookey123

Interesting to hear Landos interview post quali. He seems very reserved for the sprint race today. More hoping to defend his position than attack to improve. I wonder if most drivers will share this mentality especially considering no points on offer for most. I'm guessing max will dive down the inside regardless so still should be a fascinating race today.
