Portable Pull Up Bar

Hi all,

Hoping someone out there can help. I'm not sure it such a thing even exists, nothing returning on google searches.

I'm looking for a portable pull up bar.
Essentially, I want to mount one on an external wall, but the OH doesn't want it always up, so compromise is to have a wall plate with a pull up bar that can be put up and taken down.

Any guidance and ideas appreciated.

Would almost certainly require a custom wall plate and bar.

I would suggest gym rings, which can be hung over a tree, goal posts, basketball stand etc

Far more versatile piece of equipment in terms of what you can do with it, can be taken to the park, on holidays etc

Great piece of kit for the cost.

I had a “frame” based one that went over the lip of the door. I found it damaged the door frame over time .

Incidentally , how many chin up’s and pull up’s can you do.

Chin up is palms facing you as in understand it, pull up is palms facing away.

Chin up’s i can do 12 in a row, pull up’s only about 3

I would echo the suggestion for gym rings (Tree branches, goal posts etc.).

If that's a non runner I would just buy a doorframe pull up system. Not the expandable pole that fits within the doorway, but the one that hooks on top of a doorframe.

It doesn't enable good form for pull ups though due to the height, unless you're really short, or curl your legs up.

If you mean the door frame pull-up option, it's not ideal, but the OP might prefer it than going drilling on an outside wall to attach something that isn't even permanent.

I used a doorframe bar for years, curling my legs up behind me, it's grand. It's not making the movement any easier which is the main thing.

If you can perform a good volume of pull ups another option is to extend your legs out in front and the more advanced progression of L-sit pullup.

Grease the Groove is a game changer for Pull-Ups

Grease the Groove is a training technique that Pavel Tsatsouline is largely credited for. The way he explains it, if you want to build strength or add reps to an exercise you need to do that exercise often but stay far away from failure or fatigue so for example if you can do an exercise for a max of 10 reps Pavel recommends only doing 5 reps or less and have at least 15 minutes of rest between sets but the rest between sets can really be as long as you want it to be.
