Interesting podcast about the brawl up between Ayrton Senna and Eddie Irvine at the 1993 Japanese Grand Prix

    This too shall pass.

I don't blame Mercedes for doing what they can to keep Red Bull in check. As a team, that's their job.

However, for Hamilton, as someone who's benefited from having a string of the most dominant cars the sport has ever seen, to start whining about stuff like Red Bull's speed and talking about fans getting bored... well, the word hypocrite doesn't even begin to cover it.

Surely he hasnt said that about fans getting bored.

It annoys me that it's Spotify only.

We he has, but that was before Merc gave him the dominating car ;)

You'd think Irvine could afford a better microphone. :pac:

Edit: turns out that's a recording from 1993. My bad.

Aston Martin getting serious about recruitment, poaching some big names form other teams. They also got the chief designer from Alfa Romeo a few weeks ago. They could be going places in the next few years.

Autosport: Aston Martin secures another senior Red Bull F1 technical signing.

Making moves before the new rules come in. Vettel is probably happy with this.

Yeah it certainly can't hurt. I imagine these things take time to bed in (and for everyone to do their gardening leave if it's in their contracts). So this might be more about 2023 or 2024 and onwards, than this next year. I'd say Stroll is more confident that he will still be around to reap the benefits than Vettel.

Looks like Sky and C4 have extended their multi-year agreement so that bodes well for C4 keeping access to their highlights package for F1.

They’re the team that has consistently delivered by far the best performance per dollar spent for the last decade or more at this stage, with stronger financial backing and a cost cap coming in they’d have to have some optimism looking forward.

Yeah that's true. From the Jordan days they were good value for money. It remains to be seen if they can handle big money but I'd imagine they're a well run outfit and will use the money well. Could be real title contenders in a couple of years.

Will George Russell be pattering Lewis next year I wonder?

When will Red Bull sign up Perez again for 2022?
"We are really happy with the job Checo is doing. So we'll be sitting down with him in due course but obviously there are a few races to get out of the way between now and the summer break," says Christian Horner to Sky F1 from the pit wall.

"We're happy with the points he's hoovering up and the job he's doing.

"I don't think it will be a lengthy discussion. It's pretty straightforward. At the right time, hopefully we'll have that chat."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,047 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Not that I think Gasly or Albon are bad drivers but I think Red Bull is the wrong team for them.
Such is the nature of Alpha Tauri's existence as Red Bulls development team that Gasly will have to move on eventually I hope it would be to somewhere like a resurgent Williams or McLaren.

    This too shall pass.

Yeah should be straightforward enough. Everything's going to plan and he's happy being a no.2. It's the best drive he's ever going to get so I'd say everyone is very happy to extend the deal.

I reckon he will, they’re trying to remain professional and do the right thing by valteri but I reckon the writings on the wall for him.
There’s definitely an appetite for George to take the second seat and I think the plan would be partly for Lewis benefit to help him get the championship record and act as a bit of a mentor for George. If Lewis is at Mercedes then valteri is always going to be second string

Agree 100% on this. Gasly looks fantastic in that Alpha Tauri, he's been consistent on Sundays and great pace on Saturdays.

On Perez, it's a no brainer. If the gap between Red Bull and Mercedes is similar next year, I'd fancy him to beat Russell too when he inevitably joins Mercedes.

The AT car isn't a bad car, so the idea would be for Gasly to stay and improve himself and the car/team. But there is the question of the new regs next year. I think he and the team would be very unlucky if it did change the other way for them!

Yeah the Honda engine is a bonus to the AT car too. The fact that Tsunoda hasn't been a success (yet anyway) has knock on effects. It means that Perez is very safe at RB as they have no option to promote Tsunoda as he hasn't shown any inclination to be good enough. And it means they still need a good driver in Gasley to bring in the points.

RB has said Gasley has no long term future at their team, so he's essentially not a RB Driver anymore even though he's still at the red bull junior team. They don't want him long term.but they will surely keep him for next year. There are few other options. Bottas will come on the market soon but he's probably expensive compared to Gasley.

Anyone getting funny notifications from the F1 app? Just got something like "you should check your security" in a push notification.

Bunch of people on Formula Dank getting notifications just saying "foo" I think.

Yep. I wish they took the opportunity to take the piss out of the Da'esh Gold GP, but I guess they didn't want to wake up to a hit squad with bonesaws.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,047 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Yeah, I reckon there's been a hack. I've uninstalled the app until I hear an all clear from official sources. I got the two push notifications despite the fact I turned off notifications for the F1 app.

    This too shall pass.

Yeah I got that earlier…. It’s odd and I’ve deleted the app just in case

Is that an app that requires an account and login?
Not to scare monger but I would be changing my passwords on other accounts if I was using the same credentials on other accounts/apps

No it’s just the F1 app, no login required or anything. You can create an account and sign up for all sorts if you like but I use it as a news app only which doesn’t require a login

I subscribe to the f1 app for the live timing but haven't gotten any notifications. Maybe the f1 app is separate from the live timing app.

Does anyone think there's a possibility that mclaren will drop Ric for next year? I don't think anyone believes he's actually that much slower than Norris, but he's really struggling this year. Bottas will be on the market next year and he might be looking for a Mclaren drive.

If mclaren have any performance clauses in Rics contract, then I'm pretty sure he's not meeting them, so there might be a brake clause in the contract

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,459 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

With the new cars coming next year, I think Ric will stay on. It’s clear there’s an issue with this current car and Ricciardo — he hasn’t lost his talent. Still, he’ll need to close the gap to Norris this year, if even for his own confidence.

Yeah it is odd that he can't seem to get to grips with the car, I think they will give him next year as well to be honest, I don't think he's suddenly lost the ability to drive.
