My mams last car was a Volvo C70, 01 C 70. Her car before that was an Escort Ghia. My dad Jim followed the previous owner home and offered to buy his car, the reg was 810 JIM. My dad is a little quirky

Ah, yes, that rings a bell. I was thinking of the blue Mini EIE10 (Old McDonald had a farm..) in my last post.

A friend bought a new Mini, way back, and got MNI 1. He called it Anagram :)

01MN1 is on one of the last of the old mini Minis

Pharmacist in Limerick. Brought the Car in himself from the UK and had to jump through a few hoops to get a Leitrim address (but his name) and to have the number held for himself.
He also has a lovely E9 CSL.

He must've sold on the M3, used to see it around Mullingar direction quite a bit.

    Whats the reg mean

D15LEO is Dublin 15. Leo (Varadkar). Obviously a fan.

In the old school days (was it pre 1977?) Kilkenny, in charge of the 'IP' tag, skipped RIP-13.
Source: I saw it in the Evening Press.

Would have been ideal for a hearse.

DIE 666 and 222 were on hearses in the past. IE was Clare

Reg plates in Malta use similar format to the old Irish ones, walked out of a hotel one morning to see KKK666 parked outside.

Allegedly a farmer in Clare had a van

    EIE 10

don't know if his surname was McDonnell or not.

Saw one just today on a convertible Merc that just said "IMGIFTED" suited the person more than the car if I'm honest !

Maybe it's a false memory, but I distinctly remember seeing a car in Dublin one time with the reg 666 EZE. This was in the 80s -- it was a fancy car, BMW or Mercedes. Where would a license plate like that be from (besides the underworld)?!

Saw something like 95-CE-320 on a Merc, though I can’t remember the exact year.

Volvo often got Cork plates for the cars. Saw a very tasty lady driving 98-C-70 with her top off a few years ago.

Roman Abrahimovic has VIP1 an old Kilkenny number.

In Belfast there's a hearse which sometimes attends the 'republican' end of Milltown cemetary TC OL or something, 'Tiocaidh Ar la' Help me get this more accurately guys.

Tipp car 10TN10 (say it). Cute, I remember advising a Tipp friend to book it, in about 2008. He didn't, but I saw it later and said ahhhhhhhh.

    Edit:

    Its T111 ALY

I saw it at the Bobby Storey funeral.

You've reminded me of two hearses I saw years ago that both had plates that were RIP 1234 or whatever.

    I'm not getting 10TN10.

Any premium car just looks better with a D-reg. It might be ridiculous or snobbery, but it's something that the market seems to agree with too.

My previous two cars were G and MH regs and they always took something away from it for me. Thankfully balance has been restored with my recent purchase :)

MZB 250 on a Mercedes 250 many moons ago. It had an O’Briens of Tallow sticker on the back window.

Saw plenty of trucks with reg to match either the horsepower or model.

    For example 98-DL-144 was for a Scania144-460 or 144-530

My neighbour had 98-DL-3260, and the plate had a space between the 3 and the 2, as it was a 260hp scania rigid.

    211-DL-770 is for a 770hp Scania truck.

I see a few Porsche 911s with the numbers 911 somewhere in the reg plate. Always makes me roll my eyes.

I had a Volvo S60 a few years ago and the last 2 digits of the reg were 60 but I don't think it was deliberate on the part of the first owner. Also had a Honda St1100 motorbike with the number 1100 in the reg and I can definitely say it was not intentional as I brought the bike in myself and did the whole VRT thing... They just assigned the next number in line. :)

I sold a Land Cruiser before that had the reg 2982 on it, which is the cc of the engine. Pure coincidence.

Also sold a new Yaris to a retired English lady that had the number 08-county-1916

I remember 07MH55 when it was new. Audi S5 in white. Think it's half skangered up now :(

CSI633 was another famous one I used to see on the longmile road. BMW 633 CSI

I used to see 00KY911 every day when I was in my old job. Volkswagen Beetle Porsche 911, appeared to be a daily driver. Nice way to get about!

One that infuriated me was 95 W 201... :o and a wannabe with 05 G 55. Those brakes are fooling nobody!

I dream of the day I'll see P406DGT, if it exists... It would have to be an XUD too... ;)
