    Very worrying times.
Getting everything that we've voted for I'm afraid.

Where are the 2000 deaths actually coming from? What demographic? I'm actually baffled.

We have the highest debt per capita.

Bar the Irish Times article in March forecasting that (in relation to covid) " Ireland to have highest debt per head in Europe this year"

I can find no recent confirmation of that claim

Do you have a link showing that "We have the highest debt per capita" (this year)?

Nobody knows, but I wouldn't say they consider the vaccines ineffective. It's clearly a blown up worst case scenario, sure we can see in the UK that it's mainly those without a vaccination that are being seen coming through the hospital doors.

Their models are suggesting we could have record numbers of deaths in Aug & Sept. There is no possible way that could happen.

A few months ago someone posted up the emails of all the TDs. Is that still available?

Seeing all this news now after the Euro game. 2k deaths? Are they modelling the black plague? How can anyone with 2 brain cells follow this nonsense.

Does the government have any alternative expert view? Or is NPHET the only game in town? With a quarter of a trillion debt looming, surely we could afford a second opinion?

    Whats the point anymore?

We can't even eat indoors in the middle of summer now, what hope have we of ever seeing normal, real normal life in this country in the next number of years at this stage? Have a party, organise an event, go to a concert, drop into a pub, buy milk without a mask, not queue for a shop, work in an office not resembling a crime scene, have a proper university experience, travel on a whim.

It's the consequences of these decisions on how we ever return to real, proper life which is what upsets me the most rather than the deprivation of any specific thing being denied on the 5th.
It's disgusting, and they are all disgusting.

Surely there's some ministers looking at the figures presented and saying there's no way that's going to happen.

Yes, a worst case scenario whereby vaccines don't seem to be worth a bollix.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Quarter of a trillion is small change, property is booming.

2,200 deaths across August and September, is NPHETs worst case scenario.

    That's 1,100 deaths across August, let's say.

That would be the equivalent of 14,300 deaths in the UK in August -- or 476 deaths per day. Half of the peak of when there were no vaccines.

Today, the UK had 3 COVID-19-related deaths and 23,000 new cases -- with the Indian variant spreading wildly over the past couple of weeks.

NPHET need a drink, in a pub.

What NPHET actually need to do is f**k off now with their absolute bullsh1t talk. Potential
2200 deaths across August September is the biggest load of bolloxology ever.

Who in the name of God do these fools think they are making these ridiculous statements.

Well, if they aren't then you have to wonder what the hell they're doing there.

Over 2k deaths? Why is vaccination rates which are climbing DAILY being completely ignored in this modelling?

I would be known to back NPHET on this thread but NPHET are completely wrong on this. The government need to stand up and balance public health vs economic health.

NPHET need to publish their data, its a case of crap data in = crap data out. Anyone with half a brain can see a figure of 2000+ is bananas.

2,100 deaths is almost 50% of the current death toll amassed over the past year and 3 months.

At the height of summer. With 60+ of the population with 1 vaccination, and almost all the most vulnerable groups double vaccinated.

If Michael Martin goes ahead with this, then he must be the stupidest politician ever elected to high office.

Surely their model includes continued vaccinations over the next number of months?? If not they should be disbanded and each member removed from every public role they hold for gross incompetence.

They're all hardly wrong. The NPHET letter leaks have always been pretty much spot on.

I'm struggling to think of a scenario where that is actually possible. Like what is the scenario in which that occurs. Even if you had an R of 5-6 you'd still run into a vaccinated person 2/3rds of the time.
