I’ve been waiting ages for my jab, just about my turn now. But the government have made such a mess of travel restrictions, that I’m not sure if I’ll bother now. All the vulnerable are vaccinated and I’m going to have to pay for PCR tests to travel anyway. No upside for me

The upside is that you'd be vaccinated against the disease surely?

Except you won't have to pay for a PCR test if your vaccinated so I don't see the logic there, the upside is your not going to be paying €200 plus each time you want to travel, that's before even considering your own health.

But they not bring that in until the 19th of July, if even. Many other countries are issuing the DCC now.

And ? Don't exactly fancy paying 200 quid extra for each time I want to come and go out of the country in the future

Given I travel usually 4 or 5 times a year I'd be looking at get a free vaccine or not take it and probably spend the guts of a grand on tests. Easy decision in my opinion

A clever enough way of doing it. Not making vaccination a requirement but just making travel within the EU without a vaccine cert very expensive.

Yes if the pcr tests are still needed. Some eu countries have started to drop the need for pre departure testing altogether. More will have by the 19th. My point is that the late roll out means I’m much less likely to get a jab. I probably will. But I think I’ll wait until after the 19th to see if the government actually roll out the DCC or delay it again.

It’s only 4 weeks away :pac:

Had my first Moderna five weeks ago tomorrow and havent had any word yet about getting the second jab, anyone else in the same boat? A mate who got his first jab same day as me had his second last Monday, exactly 4 weeks after his first.

Did you check the portal ? Maybe you just didn’t get the text and missed your appointment

Many EU countries are offering free departure testing, the EU provided funding for this. France and the Netherlands for example. You can get a free test before going through security.

I’m not anti vax just pointing out that for many youngish people the restrictive travel rules act as a disincentive

It’ll be interesting to see how many doses of J&J were given through pharmacies last week

Testing is also free from HSE after you arrive back in Ireland.

It doesn’t matter if the hse moved away from it because they weren’t going to hit it! That’s not how measurement of performance against targets works. You don’t just get to move the goalposts.

But sounds like we’re going to miss it by quite a margin for various reasons.

That’s fair enough as long as you aren’t using it as a measure of performance of the Irish government. The failure of the J&J vaccine was by far the largest reason for not hitting the old target.

How many vaccines per week do people think we will be administering in July, given that we are due to receive 935,000 in the last 10 days of June and we will presumably be giving out most of these next month due to the logistics involved? If we can expect delivery of 220,000 a week in the first three weeks of July and we have maybe 500,000 of the 935,000 on hand at the turn of the month, I would have thought this would mean giving out around 300,000 a week next month in spite of smaller forecasted deliveries.

A few posters have remarked that the vaccine rollout is currently administration-constrained rather than delivery-constrained. How is that possible if there was a plan in place for several months to be administering 450k doses per week in June?

I don't watch the HSE briefings but I'm going to imagine that no critical questions are being asked or answered.

The fact that apparently none of us can work from publicly available information how many doses are in storage, to within even several hundred thousand doses, is telling.

But sure, it's all the Russians' fault.

6x 0.3ml doses per vial is the normal for Pfizer. You will occasionally get a 7th dose out of a vial (maybe one in 15 or so) because there is always a little bit extra in the bottom of the vial after dose #6, and if the stars line up just right it you can get the extra dose out - it’s a bit like trying to get the last bit of a slushie with a straw!

    eoinbn wrote: »
Early on Pfizer were counting each vial as 5 doses. Once the EMA agreed that 6 doses could be extracted Pfizer revised the figure to 6. So if you had ordered 100k vaccines Pfizer originally would have delivered 20k vials. After the change they would deliver 16,667. However it you couldn't use 6th dose then you end up short 16667 doses. There was some push back regarding this as not everyone could extract the 6th dose.

I don't believe I have said the stockpile doesn't exist, I have just given possible reasons why it might not exist.

Thanks for the info Angeldelight. Any estimate on how often they got the 6th dose?

I missed this. When or where was this announced. Got a link please?

I'm mid 40s fit and active. Had my 2nd Pfizer vaccine 2 weeks ago. Felt fine. I'm exhausted the past 3 days and can't get off the couch, tearful, melancholic and dizzy.

    Anyone had any similar experience?

That's a part of the Covid passport criteria. Pop in "covid passport" to google and it'll pop up.

Wishful thinking on your part. Myself and many others will indeed stick to our principles. You have been given a whole lot of time to work your way through this. Myself and others have had to put our lives on hold. Once yourself and anybody else that chooses to get the vaccine have done so, it’s over. Travel in Europe will continue as before.

Good to know. Have already had dose 1 and dose 2 is due (but not yet scheduled) while I'm in Kerry with the family on holiday. If they're that quick with the rescheduling I'll be comfortable enough cancelling in the hopes I won't have to wait too long.

Not questioning the validity of your statement, I was just wondering if you had a link as I would like to read more on this as I hadn't heard this before. That's all.

Seems to be happening a lot with Pfizer second dose and that works in a very similar way to Moderna.
