My mate in Quebec is saying that authorities there are extending shelf life of AstraZenca vaccines that was due to expire 31st May by another month, that cannot be right. They wouldn't be doing that here, I hope not.

    https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/health-canada-extends-shelf-life-of-astrazeneca-doses-set-to-expire-monday-by-a-month-1.5448079?fbclid=IwAR0bk5e34pDlqhCFg4a-it2jNYLPU7_Z3v2rhEgPQlmxIlzzaGySxR_DaM8

It’s based on stability data so the manufacturers have been doing testing in the background that allows the expiry date to be altered. The same happened for Pfizer... it could initially only be safely used for 5 days once removed from ultra low temperatures as that was all the stability data was for but it can now be used for up to 31 days as the extra stability studies were carried out

Anyone know if you can register on the portal after you’ve already received 1st vaccine?

My mum (64) - extremely high risk - was referred by consultant to MVC mid March and got her 1st jab (AZ)
But we’ve had no word yet on her second.

So she’s just coming up to 12 weeks now? You could call the helpline if it’s gone past the 12 weeks

Yes, this coming Thursday will be exactly 12 weeks

You could hear something this week hopefully... some people only get short notice. If it were me I’d call the helpline though and see what they say

    Digital Green Certificate:

I'm probably pissing in the wind here. Does anyone have any idea on how we can eventually obtain such a thing in Ireland?
The HSE online resources barely mention it.

I'm mid 40s and vaccinated. My vaccine card is from another (non-EU) country but is recognised here. (J&J if anyone cares)

My query is how to get myself registered as fully vaxxed under the HSE? Otherwise I might just sign up and get the Pfizer instead.

You won't get a digital green certificate but a legitimate looking vaccine certificate from whatever country you got your EU approved vaccinated in should offer you most (all?) of the same benefits.

Right now, I don't believe Germany, Greece, Spain, etc. are differentiating between EU Digital certificates and other paper/digital vaccine certificates. This could of course change later.

We are starting into the massive second dose of AZ phase starting the end of this week over the next few weeks. I think there were about 300k doses that will be hitting the 12 week period over that period. Even with the change in AZ dosing, the HSE are probably getting everything set to handle this. I’d say you’ll heart something back in the next few days. At worst early next week. If you don’t hear back by next Monday I’d ring the helpline.

If you read the Twitter thread it explains that is due to the hospital data not yet being linked to the vacccination data for all people

There’s large numbers of cohort 2 already past 12 weeks who haven’t heard anything yet, the HSE didn’t have them sorted in time when it was to be pulled back from 16 weeks

Just got back from the Helix centre, I thought there wouldn't be too many people at 6pm on a Bank Holiday Monday, but it was very busy. All 10 (?) waiting lanes outside were pretty full. It was about 20 mins of waiting, 10 mins for registration + jab, and the 15 minute "observation", so 45 minutes in and out even with hundreds of people there.

Any news yet on registration for the next age group?

Closer to double that at the Aviva this afternoon. Appointment at 16.20, not out until 17.45!

Anyone know about the schedule in Sligo MVC for second dose of Moderna? Do they stick pretty much to the 4 weeks gap?

Cohort 2 are being done and some have already come back in from the 16 weeks. The MVCs are doing specific AZ days.

I know they are being done, I got mine, but have colleagues at 14 and 15 weeks post-first dose who have heard nothing and helpline haven’t helped either.

Isn't Group 2 basically HSE employees anyway? Also know people who were at the same point but now have had second doses. It's not a portal process so can't see how the helpline would be of any use.

They haven’t said yet. Good chance next week I’d say.

Probably next week at this point. Details usually emerge from Donnelly or the weekly HSE briefing.

Lots of others outside the HSE in that cohort but majority of them would be alright.

I know a couple of people who are due 2nd doses next week of AZ and got them on Saturday. I'm due on the 18th I think (12 weeks) and seems to ample supply. I'd imagine once they have it logistically organised they'll zip them out over 1 or 2 days as the bulk of them would be due over the last 2 weeks and next 2 weeks

Just rang the helpline, to be advised that they can only look at the appointment issue 21 days after you register.

Might be a helpful bit of info for anyone here...

What's the story with vaccine certs for travel? I was reading that Spain will be looking for proof of vaccination as a way to get in there. I've asked a few people who are fully vaccinated if they have any proof and they say no. I don't think any of them asked though maybe that's why.

Did you go by car may I ask?
I'm wondering how challenging was the parking situation. (going to Helix today)

You literally get handed a HSE vaccination card after they inject the dose.

This is your proof of vaccination.
The digital green certificate is adifferent thing and it's implementation has yet to announced.

41 in Dublin and I have been offered a 1st vaccine in the GP tomorrow. Very tempted to accept BUT it means i will be down the country for the 2nd GP jab 28 days later. My alternative is to wait for my MVC appointment.

Has anyone been in the same situation and delayed their 2nd jab?

I'd take it but give GP a call and explain. It can be up to 42 days for the second dose.

The EU have announced a formal launch date for the EU cert of 1st July. Countries have six weeks from then to bring it in.

We're looking at mid-July before we start handing them out, but I think a couple of countries are planning to begin issuing them before the end of June.

Confidential meeting of health ministers: vaccine hope Curevac will "not come before August"
The expected vaccine deliveries from the German company Curevac are still a long time coming: At a meeting of the health ministers on Monday, it was said that approval would probably only come in August.

The reason for the difficulties is that clinical studies have not yet been completed for approval.

A year ago, the German federal government entered the company with 300 million euros. But with the former hope Curevac, the critical inquiries are increasing.

It all sounded like a success story: a year ago, the federal government invested around 300 million euros in the Tübingen-based company Curevac. Similar to the Mainz company Biontech, Curevac gave hope that the corona pandemic would end. Like Biontech and Moderna, Curevac is developing an mRNA vaccine that is also said to be effective against various mutations.

But as it looks, we will have to wait for Curevac. At a confidential meeting of the federal and state health ministers on Monday afternoon, health minister Jens Spahn (CDU) said, according to participants, that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) did not expect the Curevac drug to be approved “before August”. A few weeks ago it was said several times that Curevac was expecting approval in June.

Apparently, however, there are problems with a larger clinical trial that is crucial for approval, it said. So there are simply not enough participants. In addition, due to many requirements for shelf life, the studies started a little later than Biontech and Moderna and are now also struggling with the various mutations of the coronavirus, against which the agent is also supposed to protect. The first data are promising here.

But the obvious delays, no matter how well they can be justified, are causing impatience, especially among those politically responsible. Because the vaccine is still rare in Germany, with Curevac the vaccination campaign should finally be able to be shifted up a gear. A few months ago, Curevac wanted to be able to produce 300 million cans by the end of the year.

At the end of May, internal delivery forecasts by the federal government said that 1.4 million doses of Curevac would come by the end of June, 9.4 million by the end of September and 28.9 million in the last quarter.

In the updated forecasts from June , however, Curevac does not appear at all for this year.
