    https://plantbasednews.org/lifestyle/health/irish-father-tries-out-veganism-with-help-of-riverdance-star-daughter/

I don't have Instagram but I saw this on PBN. A 67 year old Irish man, father, welder and small time farmer goes solely plant based for 21 days. It seems to have generated a lot of attention with national media coverage and the Instagram page set up for/by him has tens of thousands of followers.

He is being supported by Super Valu and following the Happy Pear recipes. An inspiration for sure and it is great to see an unlikely person embrace a plant based lifestyle. Hopefully he gets on well and inspires more to do it.

    Fair play to him

Yeah, good on him, although I'd say he's been sent enough free samples to keep him going all year!

Correct, you are not singling out a specific person but by default you are targeting and tarnishing all farmers........as I previously stated if I added a link to a story where a vegan was found guilty of malnourishing an infant and inferred all vegans with children were guilty by association. I would imagine you would be pissed of and rightly so.

I do realise that the actions of the few (either misguided or suffering with mental issues) in NO WAY reflect the views or actions the rest of the people who believe in a vegan lifestyle......is it too much to ask for that same level of respect back?

I am not looking for a fight or an argument but I will not lie down either when I am being tarnished in an unfair manner.

If the links were posted (which I have no issue with - it happened) and the question asked, how could this happen in this country.......I suspect you may have got a very different response and possibly an insight into how something awful like that could have happened.

Any person in their normal mind would not think it is ok to dump animals into a stream. (or anywhere for that matter)

I am going to leave it at that........I am aware that this forum comes under a lot of duress from time to time and I do not want to add any more to it.

    Thanks.

Dutch Minister Schouten wants to end calf import due to health and welfare issues. The Netherlands is the 2nd biggest buyer of Irish calves so this will really impact the trade.
Might be seeing a lot more dumped calves if this happens! Good news though really, live exports are just horrible.

I watched seaspiracy. It takes a somewhat superficial look at various issues relating to our oceans but I think it does so reasonably well to highlight key issues but as always it's good to do your own due diligence.

I don't think the whole thing on aquaculture is entirely accurate and they bungled that segment somewhat. I find it hard to believe someone is still in business with 50% of salmon dead at any given time. Official figures have it at 1% in Scotland. You can definitely farm oysters in tandem with kelp in a way which benefits the environment for an example of "sustainable" aquaculture.

In parts it seemed rushed like he just couldn't wait until he could tell everyone to go vegan but hopefully it gets people thinking about what's on their plate. I prefer things with a bit more depth though which isn't really the directors style. I must admit that he lost me for a bit when he wheeled out the quackery double team of Dr Greger and Klaper.

Good article here about the horrible practice of live export. Something like 200,000 animals will likely die due to Suez issue too

Fair play to NZ. It's a disgrace that we're shipping these poor things off to Libya every bloody week. To think of the uproar when puppy farms are busted but no one gives a f*ck about these young ones being packed into boats to meet god knows what kind of conditions abroad.

Bit of a different situation with the NZ ban.
Those were breeding stock from the highest genetic cow families in NZ going to China, and there was countrywide horror at the loss of 5800 dairy stock, two Australians, two New Zealanders and 41 Phillipino crew-members when the ship lost power and sank in a Typhoon.

Do we need something like this to happen for the practice to be banned here?

Burger King vow to reduce meat in their menu to reduce emissions. This less meat fad seems to be gaining traction.

One of the highest rated restaurants in the world (whatever that means?) is going plant based when it reopens after lockdown https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/03/dining/eleven-madison-park-vegan-menu.html?smid=tw-share - reason for doing so is environmental concerns. The writing is on the wall for animal based agriculture now that the consumers are turning away from it.

I saw Epicurious stopped accepting any recipes with beef in them too, for similar reasons.

I saw this in the guardian. Honestly it looks absolutely beautiful. Was trying to see if I could watch it but it's not released properly yet.

Yeah I was complaining to my local coffee place that their coffee was different, lack of oatly! Took the best coffee i've ever had down to average with a different oat milk.

I'd say lots of the gaps on the shelves are down to Brexit.

If you're anywhere near one, try Holland and Barretts, or Evergreen. I also saw some in one of these, yesterday. http://thefoodcentre.co/

Out today and I think it will stream on Netflix and Prime. The IT gave it 5 stars and a glowing review in its film review section linked below. Very excited to watch this over the bank holiday weekend and have stocked up on some M&S vegan ggoodness for the occasion (three "cheese" pizza, cauliflower bites and churros).

Yeah all the reviews are great, I'm not sure I could handle it though I love pigs and no doubt it'll have some heart wrenching ending

Yeah, I'm the same; the trailer already got to me after reading what it was about. I will need to be prepared for it I think, hence the comfort food and watching it on a bank holiday night where there is lots of time over the weekend to enjoy the time off and the sun; and to remember that life is still amazing - which is why we are on our journey to appreciate, protect and nourish it!

Has anyone tried the "sons of butchers" (I think that's what they're called) stuff that they're selling in Dunnes? The fake chickeny stuff and their sausages are quite good, haven't tried the mince yet.

    Hello,

I have a couple of sweet toothed vegan friends, and I would like to buy them some sweet treats.

Nothing fancy or expensive now, just some nice sweet vegan snacks from one of the supermarkets.

    Any suggestions kindly appreciated.

    TIA!

    Thank you TA!

I'm thinking more along the lines of brownies, ice cream, chocolates etc.

Has anyone tried the truffles from My Goodness?
