Try “hey Siri play radio radio R Tay A 1” I am not kidding this works. Say radio twice as mentioned. I’ve checked it twice just there and it worked on my HomePod iOS 14.5

It worked! I sounded like an idiot saying it, but it worked. Cheers!

I know it should understand us but it works. I have to say the same thing for RTÉ Gold. Also for Radio Nova 100 you have to say radio twice. Random. Maybe it’ll be fixed in time and with the HomePod Mini “officially” being released in June.

Just reading that Apple bought an Irish company at the start of the month that is involved in AI and digital voice assistants so hopefully they pull the finger out and try and get Siri up to speed with Alexa & Google assistant.

I'm curious how many different pronunciations you had to try before you and Siri settled on this one...?!?

    Ha! Not many thankfully.

Anyone’s HomePod not playing any radio stations this morning when asked?

Yeah gone to pot this morning. Won’t play radio stations. Couldn’t find Coldplay, or any artist, in Apple Music. Had to launch it from the phone.

Tbh Siri is rubbish on these HomePods. I’ve come to realise that after frequent use. Every command I’m wondering if it’s going to work or whether I’ll have to rephrase it.

I’m wondering will the June launch bring an improvement here because it’s sh1te at the moment.

Yeah, it also won’t play my playlists.

Still not fixed and looking at the HomePod Reddit thread it’s not an isolated incident.

Yeah it’s still not working here either. Restarted my network and no go.

I’ve raised it with Apple Support on Twitter.

I'm using a HomePod pair in my office, and I've found that the most recent software update has made the stereo pairing MUCH more stable. Before, I had to reset them to reestablish the link every day or so. Highly Annoying.

Now, they're rock solid and no problems. In addition, since the last Big Sur update, I can now set the pair as my main audio output from my iMac, meaning I can stream music in stereo from YouTube and Spotify from my Mac. Very handy.

The issues with Siri and playing radio stations and songs from Apple Music appears to be fixed.

Just been on to Apple Support on Twitter and they suggested restarting the HomePod (which I hadn’t considered because there are four of them). I did it on one HomePod and it worked for all of them. Apparently. Maybe it’s a coincidence and Siri came back at the same time…?

Anyone’s Siri/HomePod down again? Same issue as lately- won’t play radio stations or music etc…

in the last few weeks i've almost given up on using Siri with the homepods - it has gone to crap altogether.

Now I just use the phone and tap the homepod to transfer the audio

It’s rubbish. Total letdown. What are the chances it comes good in June when the mini is released here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 613 ✭✭✭iniall

I'd say there's a chance that the drop-outs Siri's been experiencing recently might have something to do with Apple's efforts at localisation in time for HomePod's launch next month.

I got a 2nd homepod mini for my bedroom.
Stereo pairing is great, when it works! drops out way too much for my liking.

Wasn’t interested in the new Apple TV 4K until I found out that it will support audio output for all attached devices via arc/earc through the HomePod/HomePod stereo pair.

wow - that could be a game changer for me.

I have the homepods set up as a stereo pair in my kitchen ... if I could route the audio from the TV in the kitchen through the Homepods it would be awesome as it is a long narrow kitchen and the sound from the TV is terrible at the end of the room.

How do I know if my TV supports ARC via HDMI ?

Take a look at the HDMI ports on your TV. Any that support ARC (or eARC) should have a label saying so. My TV has 4 HDMI ports, but only one supports ARC.

I just set ARC audio support and HomePod stereo pair up last night and it’s working well so far. Great to have my ‘standard’ TV and other sources, even a chromecast, sounding so good. No lip sync issues just some slight issues when changing inputs. However, I’ve had these issues with ARC on other soundbars so would tend to blame the Sony TV.

I updated the HomePod OS to 14.6 last night. Is this the version that will come installed on the homepods when ythey are launched here in June?

They’ll have 14.6 at the very least. 14.7 might be out by then

“When you set a new timer, the Home app asks if you want to give it a name — which you could also do with Siri. After adding the timer, you can see the countdown for all of them in the Home app and cancel them from there as well. In addition to iOS 14.7, this also requires HomePod Software 14.7 installed on your HomePods.“

Can HomePods be used as speakers for an AppleTV when watching movies?

If I had two places behind the sofa would that just make the sound cone solely from behind me ? Would I need two on either side of the TV as well?

HomePod mini now showing up on the Apple Store app. €99. Available June.

Can HomePods be used as speakers for an AppleTV when watching movies?

They can. You can use one or two Homepods as AppleTV speakers. If you're using two, they're a stereo pair. Proper Homepods support Dolby Atmos as a virtual surround sound experience (assuming you're movie does too). Homepod Minis don't support Atmos (at least at the moment).

They'd be designed to go in front of you beside the TV. If you put them behind you, You'll get the sound behind you, which would be odd, as the sound coming out of them is "expecting" to be be in front of you. You can connect two together as a stereo pair, so 2.0 audio, but you can't add more to get more channels.

You could use the multi-room audio setup to play the same sound source through more than 2 Hompods in the same physical room, but each one will play the exact same thing (so effectively multiple mono speakers, as opposed to multi-channel sound), and I'm not sure if you can do that with the Apple TV as the source or not. So that won't add to the experience.

Basically, they're not designed to support a multi-channel surround setup like you're suggesting.

Will it be from 1st June I wonder? Wish they’d include the original Homepod too while the stock is being run down.
