I read somewhere that if ever San Marino were to win the Eurovision would be held somewhere in Italy. It’s logistically impossible to hold it in San Marino itself.

San Marino is a bit of a tax haven, they probably had some cash FLO-ating about

I was there a few a few years ago, I've no idea where they'd fit all the Eurovision folks if they were to win

I was kinda wondering about San Marino getting Flo Rida....it is just so random...how did they afford him?!?
Well according to popbitch...Panini the sticker people stumped up a serious amount of cash!

    Who is Flo Rida?

I think the contest is genuinely wide open this year. Any one of Italy, France, Switzerland, Iceland, Ukraine & Malta could win (and possibly a couple of others). Should make for an exciting voting sequence.

For me, the two biggest surprises this week were Portugal & Russia. Didn't rate them at all previously but they really came alive on stage.

Am still hoping for an Iceland win though!

Right. I liked Blondie and Adam and the Ants rapping but past it's sell by date 40 years later imo.

I see at end he is allowed to join on stage with 2 days notice. Very odd rules imo

Been having a little think over the last 24 hours. I reckon Ukraine could surprise everyone and win it.

I'd honestly love this, but not sure the juries will go for it. In a situation where Ukraine came 1st or 2nd in the televote the juries would have to have it at least 3rd (or maybe 4th at a push) to get them the win. Not sure I can see it happening, but I'd be up for it!

Wow they have turned it into a real song. Sounds good and I like that they dont take themselves half as serious as they look like they would at first

Put a 10er on Ukraine to win yesterday, think their computer in the bookies was acting up and they gave me 20/1. Pretty sure it was somewhat lower than that.

Feeling hopeful from what some people are saying!

I'm definitely in the minority but I don't like the Ukrainian entry at all.
    Italy and Iceland for me.

As ever, we will raise a glass to Terry Wogan at song nine.

I hope boardsies will also join me in raising a glass to Shay Healy.

This is a 45 minutes documentary where Kateryna the lead singer for Ukraine talks about her life which is quite a story, how the Cranberries 'Zombie' helped her and her Eurovision journey.

It would be a Disney fairytale if she won.

It should be Moldova but they will get points from Romania.

Germany, Spain or UK for me. The UK song isn't too bad, but as usual they have staged it terribly. It just looks cheap compared to the songs around it.

Just watched the Ireland entry as it showed up on my YouTube suggestion page.

I think it's simply a joke with Ireland these days.

Everything from Dustin to Jedward to this.

How can anyone expect to win a Europe wide competition with such a pathetically weak submission.

I watched it and was unawed yet shocked at the same time.

The song itself wasn't actually bad but Lesley's singing was far too weak. I doubt RTE expect or even hope to do well, they're more than happy to just make up the numbers. Although admittedly they probably do want to make the final, but that's about it.

It'd be good to have a proper National Final, but even when we do the selected finalists are almost always connected to RTE in some way. Looking at who was selected for the last few NF's we've had, I refuse to believe that these were the best six songs submitted.

Looking at her I'm not surprised she's a bit of a cranberries fan. Well have to sort her out with a gig in Limerick post lockdown

Jedward were a very good shout for Eurovision. Didn't win but done alright and Lipstick was a hell of a lot better than half the finalists this year

I could see it being the UK alright - James sounds a bit ropey on that clip on the official Youtube channel

I remember the year the Louis Walsh protégée went, Brendan Murray - singing a very bland song. He was a good singer but the song / staging, etc., just weren’t up to scratch.
Ryan Tubridy played another contender on his morning show that had been submitted after the song was picked. It was like something from Broadway or the West End - seriously catchy and far better than what we sent. Beginning to wonder is the selection process the problem.
There could be a National Final allowing for both jury votes (50%) from all 4 provinces / regions - plus public vote (50%). To make sure we don’t send a Donna & Joe or a Turkey again...
Also get it away from the Late Late. Wrong audience & show to be associated with the Eurovision.
