Tony really is still running the show and Donnelly is just his puppet.

Its coercive control of a vulnerable population suffering from Stockholm syndrome. The Indian variant is not escaping vaccines, yes caution is good, but Tony is just trying to put the fear of god into people, as he thinks people are stupid and can’t handle facts or science. Just like when he announced we were going to level 5 before telling an Taoiseach

It’s never ending. The vaccines are a waste of time if this narrative continues. It will be the loompaland variant next blamed on Willy Wonka bringing a plane load of oompa loompas in.

The days of travel are sadly over. I really can’t see any green travel cert even in August .

Can the people of Ireland really let these clowns get away with it?

Round and round the merry go round we go. NPHET out trying to do a hatchet job on any sort of travel talk.
Waiting for someone in Government to step up and take control of this shambles...
More job losses to come unless the announcement next Friday is substantial, practical and realistic.
There will always be variants. Reopen safe travel for goodness sake.

This is wrong thinking. Travel isn't safe for many yet. At least when most are fully vaccinated we have a chance to reopen safely. As for people 'giving in' to a vaccine I have to question their sense. Surely anyone should be dying to get it and get on with their lives asap.

So when everyone is vaccinated we have a “chance” to reopen safely. Round and round we go.

We've been waiting over a year now for someone in Government to take control... still waiting...

As far as most people will be concerned once they have the Vaccine then it's time to get the Taxi to the Airport and go...

Spain will open to all vaccinated tourists from the 7th of June... so off to Belfast and onwards we go...

Days of travel are over.... a bit over the top there Micky. I know your fed up but it's absolutely close to resuming.

Of course there'll be travel with the cert.

If you're low risk and taking it still means you can't get on with your life, why would you take it. Cos of our government are going with restrictions on stuff like travel even after being vaccinated, that's what will happen. You can see that in other countries further ahead of us ATM.

It's not just about the individual. The more that take it the better and closer we come to the end of it. When we get most vaccinated we will open up barring importing new variants and messing it up.

Well most people don't think like that so relying on that is idiocy. You'll have to incentive people which we already see other countries having to do. Not doing that means you won't get as much take up.

Respectively, I disagree with most of your views re travel, mandatory quarantine, etc. But you’re entitled to them and boards is a place to debate these issues.

I didn’t refer to vaccines in my post, people should get vaccinated where possible. Not everyone will but hopefully most do.

Well a bit of carrot and stick. Yes I agree we may have to incentivise people somehow, tax breaks, lotery tickets, God knows.

Can't wait to travel once again. Once I'm vaccinated I'm off.

Younger people won’t take the vaccine unless travel opens

I wouldn't be overly worried about some of our stringent laws like mhq and 2000 euro fine any more after today. Common sense and deregulation is speeding up so rapidly this week across Europe that it's only a matter of time before our back benchers, media and general public call time on the existing situation and we return to normal. I'm not even as concerned anymore about our capability to launch the cert. Look at Spain for example:
Spain will allow all vaccinated travellers to visit the country from 7 June, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said, as the tourism hotspot aims to revive its virus-battered travel industry.

"From June 7, all vaccinated people and their families will be welcome in our country, Spain, regardless of their country of origin," Mr Sanchez said at an international tourism fair in Madrid.

He also announced that British travellers would be allowed to visit Spain for holidays from next week.

"From next Monday, the 24th of May, Spain will be delighted to receive British tourists again," Mr Sanchez said, adding that they will be allowed in "without restriction".

Great news, but its the getting to the airport at the Irish side, and returning into Ireland that is still the problem due to the fine and the mandatory testing respectively. Regardless of vaccination status.

Also it is still not possible for any public sector staff to travel. Unless its a green list country, two weeks off work MUST be booked, and you cannot work from home during this time. Its illegal, but no-one has fought it yet.

The political pressure as other countries open up will see all those problems fall away. I hope anyway! The public sector one is unenforceable really too.

Absolutely there will. People shouldn't be paying any attention to that fool Holohan. He is clinging on by his fingernails at this stage and thankfully the EU will override all of this scaremongering nonsense.

Says who? The EU won't do anything.

Their rules when the cert is implemented means they will if we go against them without very good reason and theyre fine with that reason

You'd like to think but most other countries in Europe are more lax as it is. I was speaking to someone in Spain the other day who was saying things are near back to normal there bar the requirement to wear masks outdoors although there's talk of that being lifted soon.

Or maybe they could fine us? Just a thought but it’s been done before I think.

Afaik Spain has been added to the UKs Amber list of countries - which are countries "that you shouldn't go to unless you have an absolutely compelling reason"

Doesn't look like its going to be on NI green list either.

There is a lot of discussion here about the Garda checks at the airport. Not travelling for a few weeks yet - so hopefully fines are gone, but does anyone know the situation at Dublin port, if, for example you want to take the ferry to France?

"A common travel area across the two islands is something we would like to see happen and would be very much in line with the digital green certificate,"

booked malaga for july 2nd to july 18th, from belfast to my mams place.

me, wife and 2 kids for 370euro.. absolute bargain. have flown from there few rtimes pre covid and happy enough.

delighted to have something to look forward to, was there last August and was great.

wasnt prepared to wait until Tony tells the govt what to do about travel, which will no doubt be August, which didnt work for me, as rest of family are trying to get over in August.

Time for some positivity in here

It’s now extremely likely that quarantine/ self restriction free travel in EU will be allowed from August 12th at the very latest.

Ireland will probably be last to adapt it but it means you can make plans now to return to see family or get that break in once your return flight to Dublin is from 12 August. That’s what I’d be planning for now

Head away for 3 weeks at end of July

Too late for me - my trip is essential but I don’t want to pay for a pcr. I’m scared that I could get stuck abroad because of false positives, have a relative who had them for weeks. So I’m going through Belfast.

I think ultimately their hand will be forced by the EU but it will be dragged out as long as absolutely possible
