Exactly. "users here" didnt say it, eamon ryan himself said it (ya know, our minister for transport who currently gives 0 ****s about job losses in aviation as long as we are all cycling about eating home grown lettuce)

The layoffs are as a direct result of Government inaction, the Airlines even sent them a plan, yet still we have the highest level of restrictions an individual EU country has...The message that Ireland is "Closed for business" has also helped Aer Lingus move Aircraft to the UK for Transatlantic flights..

It's also up to the Government to support regional development, and having no connectivity to Shannon is a major blow to the region, so the Govt. have to work with the Airlines to support the routes, this has not happened...

Can you post up the link to where AerLingus stated they were going to "pull out of Shannon anyways?"

Can you post up a link where it states that the Spanish don't wear masks unless they see the police?

Genuine question but how does that work with regard to travel insurance etc when the US have Ireland designated as 'Level 4 - Do Not Travel.'?

They are Irish citizens so I guess that covers it

Sure, here's the link you may find useful next time you're over in Spain: https://en.specsavers.es/

It looks like NI will restart their international travel from Monday using the traffic light system, some differences from UK. Announcement expected later today.

What the EU say won't have any impact on this Government, they've outsourced the decision making to a medical junta who if allowed would severely halt all travel in and out of the Island until the virus was under control globally, which could take until 2025... by which time we'd be the economic leper of Europe...

As I heard someone say "Ireland doesn't seem European, it seems more like Brexit Britain.." Maybe we should Irexit and re-join the commonwealth?

I would have agreed with you on that up till a month ago. Think the background has changed somewhat with the Shannon episode and the agreement to let ex-EU in. It's now added pressure that they have to do something and while they'll drag their heels, they can't be seen to be 'that' far behind.

Well, here's hoping but the Aviation industry handed a report to the Govt. about 7 weeks ago iirc... and still we wait another week..
Effectively this is another Summer written off for Aviation/hospitality..

To move my Dublin flight to Belfast or not.... will the NEPHET junta still be in charge by end of June? Or will the EU have stepped in by then.....

The EU aren't going to tell us what to do. It's all down to vaccine roll outs now.

The decision to expand the safe list of countries will be taken by EU ambassadors on Friday.

Currently there are only eight countries on the list, including Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Israel.

EU "ambassadors" won't be deciding anything that's for sure

What use is a safe list if the last place those countries will be wanting or allowed to go is mainland Europe

I hope they will tell us, our crowd are guided by an 8 ball, they seem to have some “science” about intra EU travel that they are not sharing with all the other state capitals who are allowing citizens to travel.

Irelands tourist industry is really taking a hit, over the last 24 hours reading New York times, Washington POst, CNN etc it discusses where Americans can visit in Europe but no mention of Ireland.

Tourism Ireland is an all island body, I’d imagine storming are putting them under pressure to get out there and advertise they’re open for business

    I'd say Belfast it is.
Are the "fines" still going to be there if from an Irish airport?

What is the current situation for a person from the Republic going cross-border to fly out from Belfast, is it the same as it would be if you were to go from Dublin?

Because as detailed the US have a huge number of countries on ther Level 4 "Do Not Travel" to list.
That list includes Ireland. I've been told that many holiday companies won't cover travellers for insurance to travel to those countries.

No sign of the US lifting their restrictions to allow people from here to travel to the US interestingly enough.

Out of Dublin under current rules no you cant vaccinated or not.

It seems the CTA will be reinstated and leisure travel for vaccinated people will return "soon" but god knows what soon means.

Legally you can travel for leisure from belfast though so your choices are:

Book to fly from belfast now
    or
Wait n see if there is a relaxation of rules between Dublin and UK by june (and if there isnt just book to fly from belfast closer to the time)

Portugal to be apparently on NI's 'amber' list rather than the 'green' list like in the UK.

Wouldnt it be ironic if Ireland allowed freedom of movement between the UK and Ireland before freedom of movement to other EU countries.......

I'm now thinking of biting the bullet and booking from Dublin in June. At the moment the fares look good and I'd imagine they'll snowball if there's any easing. My partner has chronic arthritis so I think I'll book him some pain management treatment in Spain where we have a place. It actually hugely annoys us to have to go to such lengths just to travel from one home to another as two older, careful, fully vaccinated individuals. My partner prefers to get his treatment in Ireland but looks like the only way we'll avoid a 4K fine if it's extended. The Irish approach is completely over the top. Completely unjustifiable at this stage.

I'm worried too about cancellations as we are quite a journey from Dublin, but I do think it's pointless waiting any longer for a clarity that may not come and a leniency towards travel and holidays which probably won't come either.

Contractions on a number of reports about Portugal.

I see on the NI independent they’re saying Portugal is likely to be on their “green” list .

Guess we will know soon whose who on the NI traffic light system.
