Radio gold on ‘Liveline’ at the moment.

Joe keeps pushing the idea of sending Father Ray Kelly next year...he’s not even joking.

    :D

I hope Father Ray prays for this not to happen

To be fair to Dustin, he got the voting system changed to the 50/50 public/jury.

Personally I enjoyed this taking the "piss". Song contest, song. Not everyone dressed up like Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and women dancing in lingerie.

There is difference between having fun with an act...and taking the piss.
Sending a turkey puppet in a shopping trolley was taking the piss. It deserved to be booed.
"Bearded lady" who could sing and belted out a ballad. Netta the chicken one...was a pop song it wouldn't have been my choice but it was original.
The song from Iceland last year was a pretty big hit in a lot of Europe and even non Eurovision fans seem to like it.

Maybe just don't watch it or listen to the songs if you don't enjoy it.

That nasty crowd didn’t care much for Dustin’s welfare when they were booing and hissing him. The poor bird hasn’t released a song since so he was clearly affected by it. I even seen him interview about how upset he got. And it was a pretty good song too, unlike that rubbish we put out last night. Dustin can sing, unlike this Lesley Roy wan.

We are not crazy enough for the new Eurovision or have any Miley Cyrus, Arianna Grandes or Lada Gagas

If we had some lady like Cyprus singing for us all the Livelines would melt with thats exploitation of a lovely girl.

I’m sure we do though , the selection process is still in the 80s

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: The Story Of Fire Saga with Will Ferrell is on RTE 1 tonight, quite enjoyable with catchy tunes and lots of cameos

I’m a big fan, I watched it twice when it came to Netflix and will watch it again. I think it’s really sweet and I love will Ferrell and Rachel macadams. Also - romantic storylines featuring older people are always a plus given I’m of advancing years myself! It’s funny and cute. Might be girly.

Pierce Brosnan has a small role. Plus he doesn't sing in it which is always a plus. Worth a watch just to get you in the mood for Saturday.

next year we should do a sort of greatest hits song with the “dream team” Linda Martin, Dana, J Logan, Niamh kavanagh all appearing on stage. I think that would be a success if done right.

Or a Jedward and Dustin duet :p

We could send U2 singing with a top female model riding a cannon as their stage set barely clothed and we still wouldn't qualify, all about money and politics

Or just send a good song sung by an artist with decent vocals.
Can't remember the last time we did that.

So who do we think will win?

I'm hoping for Italy and I see they are the bookies favourite.

    Their full performance from yesterday:

I don't get the hype with France, I'm sure it will do well with the juries but I really can't see many people picking up the phone to vote for it.

    Ukraine

    Belgium .....

If I was to have a drink with any of the contestant it would be with them.

I also like Italy's song and hope they win.
I also like Belgium. I was a big fan of Hooverphonic back in the day and the return of Geike Arnaert as the singer really works for me - the song reminds me of the music they were doing back around 2000. Can't see them winning though, I think they will do well with the juries but maybe not so much with the public vote

There are two distinct things going on here.
People in Europe still remember Dustin.
And the quality of the acts we are sending over are Sunday night karaoke quality year in year out.
Lesley Roy is probably a great person, but she can't sing. Why do RTE send people over who can't sing?
Iceland and Monaco send over great singers year in year out and their population is a fraction of what ours is.
There is no excuse for this crap.

Apparently she works in the music industry- fairly high profile- I find myself agreeing with your “can’t sing” line. She really wasn’t great vocally

I still see Malta winning, its the type of song that is popular nowadays and sounds like something you'd here in the charts. Italy is great but I'm not sure rock music is as popular these days. Ukraine could do well with voters but the jury might dislike it

But it seems a bit unfair that the send Lizzo. She is already known and successful. I didn’t even know she was from Malta she sounds American.

    Like Jedward

And didn't Russia send Tatu and Logan must have been well known after already winning

Just had a look at the Malta entry. Don't see the love for it TBH. Too much growling for my taste.

I'm after getting invested in this now. I'll have to have a look at a few more.

All these singers we are sending these days are only in the hapenny place quality wise to the likes of Eimear etc.

I could not hardly make out what she was singing last night.

    Yep - bizzare enunciation!

We need to send a celtic doom metal techno band accompanied by a creepy druidic aesthetic for the stage. I'm not even kidding.

    🙈🙉🙊

Malta is up there alright. It's a very open year.

Cyprus is extremely catchy but it has blatantly copied another song, so I really hope it doesn't win.

Mael mordha tried but got ridiculed by Dave fanning who asked them to go away and come back with an abba cover, which they did in fairness

That explains our current mess in a way

Yep. A st. Patrick lead singer backed up by a band in snake outfits. A full on heavy metal sound..

Joe Duffy show today - listeners were today talking about who could else could have done better if they'd been sent, surely its the song, and whether that in itself is good enough or not, not the singer! I remember they sent Niamh Kavanagh back again before and she finished nearly last.

From my memory all our songs since 1996 have been pretty average. Nothing that stands out and say we should win it bar Jedward which was good and did pretty well in the contest.
