I didn't know they come from Egypt now instead of being made in Dublin.

i dunno - and I heard that its only the small ones or 99s that are in short supply - not the regular ones in retail.. but i'm not sure..

Pro tip: buy a twirl, place in fridge for 4 hours, get hammer, apply hammer to twirl whilst still in package, open package and sprinkle on ice cream

With high class gelato places and all kinds of flavours, people are still wedded to this Depression era "treat".

Yes, because sometimes a simple whipped ice-cream on a summer’s day beats a gobsh1te/hipster gelato for flavour and simplicity.

The article on the BBC website says the majority come from Egypt, but that some come from a factory in Coolock. I know we live in a global economy these days, but importing something that's pretty much confined to the UK and Irish market from such a far flung place seems absurd to me.

We're all going to have to share. Take the flake out, lick it clean, and hand it to the next person to enjoy. Stay 6 feet apart though. 'cause germs.

I would be thinking it's just a PR stunt anyway.
