Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I didn't know they come from Egypt now instead of being made in Dublin.

I'm pretty certain they're made in Kerry?

i dunno - and I heard that its only the small ones or 99s that are in short supply - not the regular ones in retail.. but i'm not sure..

Pro tip: buy a twirl, place in fridge for 4 hours, get hammer, apply hammer to twirl whilst still in package, open package and sprinkle on ice cream

They're being a bit flakey about it.

With high class gelato places and all kinds of flavours, people are still wedded to this Depression era "treat".

Yes, because sometimes a simple whipped ice-cream on a summer’s day beats a gobsh1te/hipster gelato for flavour and simplicity.

The article on the BBC website says the majority come from Egypt, but that some come from a factory in Coolock. I know we live in a global economy these days, but importing something that's pretty much confined to the UK and Irish market from such a far flung place seems absurd to me.

We're all going to have to share. Take the flake out, lick it clean, and hand it to the next person to enjoy. Stay 6 feet apart though. 'cause germs.

I redact my last post, I just had a call from a friend who has a few ice cream vans asking if I had any contacts who have flakes!

"Ms Khan said that "by mid-July it will be tough to get 99s", adding however that Teddy’s themselves have enough flakes to get by as they have been stockpiling them"

No one will have them only us, so just come to us. Call me cynical...................

Know people in the food industry.
I just for the craic put 10 boxes of the ones I posted earlier from Amazon and it went all the way to purchase, so whether you get them or not is the thing. Way too expensive for people needing to retail them at that price though.

No - they're going to chop them up to make them go further. You'll be able to have a 33 or a 66 ;)

Are all flakes from Cadbury's? I had one last week, and the chocolate was pretty rough. Didn't taste like Cadburys. I assumed it was a cheap knockoff. Could have been old I suppose.

does anyone else, when they get a 99, push the flake down the centre of the cone, and eat it last while it's inside the cone???

HOOK IT UP TO MY VEINS

YES! But take care not to push prematurely, otherwise you will create an ice cream squirter funnel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,499 ✭✭✭greasepalm

I love a good squirter and sucking it out the bottom of the cone.

Anyone who doesn't do that should order a plain cone and leave the flakes to the professionals.

Is it the actual box of small flakes specifically made for 99s that are in short supply, or are the individual full size bars short on stock aswell?

How many 99's could a person eat in 1 minute? Has there been any world record attempts?
