You keep saying this, you keep saying that I don’t offer any answers. Here’s some I offered a while back that we debated on — ending the distance limits, getting students back to school and getting construction going again. You parroted the cautious approach back then and then just dropped the matters like they never existed. Just like you would if the State made a surprise announcement tomorrow that restaurants could open again this Friday.

Yep we did all that. Ahead of the UK with schools too.

Completed nearly 4,000 homes with construction closed too. Amazing.

Whatever NPHET tell us is correct and following the science. It doesn't matter if all the things they tell us that are safe or not contradict each other or if the dates jump almost 2 months with no explanation why like the intercounty travel.

Yes and last time I checked, the health service did not collapse. So was I right, back when I was debating these restrictions with you, that there was no proportionate need for them?

Or was I wrong until the State said I wasn’t wrong anymore?

Link to NPHET suggesting inter county travel would not be permitted until July?

MM stated in his speech at the start of April it would be discussed at the end of April, it was and 2 weeks later permitted.

    Much like last year.

We have accelerated plans before regardless.

I always chuckle when I remember that on the evening of May 11th, Holohan was mocking the very idea that face masks might be made mandatory.

They became compulsory on May 15th.

Holohan's followers on here switched seamlessly from "face masks are dangerous!" to "people who don't wear face masks are granny-murderers!" in a hundred hours without skipping a beat, and I absolutely believe that if you asked them today, they would genuinely be offended at the suggestion they once believed the exact opposite.

Jaysus, if your target is health care collapse you haven't really being paying attention, have you?

Thats first one I found but all papers mentioned possibly early July for intercounty travel until a big shift to May just before announcements. All these paper leaks have been on the money since this crisis began.

Outdoor pints are much nicer than indoor pints weather permitting - it would be nice if this was more of a thing going forward.

Working from home/hybrid is also quite nice - would be a shame if more people especially those who like it couldn't keep it going that way.

There *will* be a tonne of negative health and social consequences to this lockdown, but at least some will be positive.

Yes and just days before the announcements MM didnt mention intercounty travel as being under consideration. NPHET's own arrogant narrative is what turned people away from them and damaged their credibility.

So nothing from NPHET to support your pretty specific claim?

As for papers getting it spot on, not evidenced by above really is it?
intercounty travel, indoor dining and hotels could reopen in July

However, Tanáiste Leo Varadkar has cast doubt on lifting the inter-county travel ban in early June.

The Taoiseach has already said the reopening of hotels and B&Bs may be permitted in June.

Mr Varadkar said: “To anyone who is booking fair enough but make sure that you look at the terms and conditions and that it’s refundable if inter-county travel is not possible.

Where do you get your info from

    https://www.cso.ie/en/releasesandpublications/er/ndc/newdwellingcompletionsq12021/

    Construction was closed...
    Even the CSO say so
There were 3,953 new dwelling completions in Q1 2021, which is 20.1% less than the 4,945 completions in the first quarter of 2020.

The Q1 data for 2021 also shows that:

There was a decrease in completions across all dwelling types. This was most stark for apartments where there was a 26.9% drop from 1,008 in Q1 2020 to 737 in Q1 2021.
The number of scheme dwellings completed this quarter was 2,245 - a fall of 21.0% from the 2,842 completed in Q1 2020.
The decrease in completions was the least for single dwellings; with an 11.3% decrease from 1,095 in Q1 2020 to 971 in Q1 2021.
Scheme dwellings made up 56.8% of all new dwelling completions in Q1 2021, while 24.6% were single dwellings and 18.6% were apartments. This compares to 57.5% scheme, 22.1% single and 20.4% apartments for Q1 2020. See Table 1.

He should just learn to shut his mouth at this stage . The public are not going to accept this being dragged out any longer when the rest of Europe will be open.

Obviously you are, did you read the article ?
You have being insinuating that construction was never closed. Below from the CSO themselves.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated restrictions in place since the beginning of the year have had a large impact on completions this quarter.

You have being insinuating that construction was never closed.

It wasn't evidenced by the same numbers you posted that back up mine.

If construction was closed how did nearly 4,000 units get completed in Q1 Jan to March.

There is only one answer by the way.

Anyone else a bit nervous that the numbers will still be too high to lift the June restrictions or is it the case the government have lost the dressing room and will go ahead with it regardless ?

109 in hospital and 34 in icu despite case numbers still being around the 400 mark.

    It’s done with.

Straight question, if most of Europe has indoor dining at the start of June and we only have outdoor, who do you think is right, us or Europe.

What metric are these countries using for indoor dining start of June.?
Vaccination numbers, new case numbers, hospitalised, ICU numbers, or just take a punt ?
Reason I`m asking is Germany and France tried the take a punt route earlier and it didn`t work well.

France wont have indoor dining at the start of june. Restaurants shut in france since last oct

Certainly looks highly unlikely. They are only opening outdoor dining next next week.

The only reason I asked because there is a lot of this "Europe is opening everything and we are not" doing the rounds on this thread.

If people are going to keep posting like this, then time they put a bit of meat on the bone as to what metrics are being used in this "Europe is opening everything"
before asking who is right or wrong.

    Don't be so pedantic.

Very simple read the article !!!!

New builds are decided by below...

ESB domestic connections dataset used as a primary source
The primary data source used for the New Dwellings Completions series is the ESB Networks new domestic connections dataset, where the date that the connection is energized determines the date of completion. It is accepted that the ESB domestic connections dataset is overestimating new dwellings and the CSO has adjusted for this overcount by using additional information from the ESB

Do you think an estate is built in 3 months ?

They are using metrics from the UK and Israel and the states that vaccines work, why bring up Germany and France pre vaccines. Do you think the vaccines will not work in France or Germany. Your not one of them who think vaccines don't work and it's a ploy to take over the world are you.

So why do you think France is opening up before us despite being in a worse situation with hospital numbers, do you honestly think they are just taking a punt.
