Does anyone know if the making an appointment for a barber rule is just for the next week or does it go on further than that?

Most barbers take walk ins-and to be honest thats the way it should be.Any person who looks in will know what wait will be and act accordingly.Think definitely you wont see Gardaí looking to inspect paper trail of bookings-although the curtain twitchers will be calling them with cases im sure

In other great news Sweden's lockdown seems to have worked out fantastically, at around the same time Irelands did.

Am I missing? Is the per capita death rate in Sweden not currently 4x that in Ireland even though they have processed more vaccines?

No its slightly worse than that - nearly 2 people per million are dying per day. rather than 0.4 people in Ireland.

Do you think double masking might have helped?

    1.77 to 0.43.

Who was talking about double masking?

When you think that 1.77 deaths per million vs 0.43 death per million is worthy of consideration you can never be too cautious.

Sweden haven't reported anything for 3 days. The numbers have been stable for some time at ca. 4x our current rate. If you have an issue with my numbers take it up with Johns Hopkins

That's 200 people every 30 days. Given both countries have largely vaccinated the elderly its not insignificant

Sweden's deaths peaked 10 days after lockdown. For a disease with a median infection-to-death time of 18.5 days.

So lockdowns even save people already infected now or something. Or retroactively stop them being infected. Or maybe people reacttoperceivedrisksallbythemselvesnothatcan'tbeit. idk.

    Today is a good day.

I woke up this morning early for the first time in months, sun was shining and I was back in work for the first time since Dec 22. I can feel the positivity radiating off every customer so far. People are delighted to be back out and about.

Last night, I back training for the first time this year. You could hear the craic all the young lads were having in their designated pods and you couldn't help but smile. For once, I didn't care one bit that the weather was ****e.

    We're almost there lads.

When are the next level of relaxation of restrictions going to be considered? Wondering when we can take the kids to amusement places like Perks on Youghal for example. Thanks.

A haircut should not make a middle aged man who usually hates going to the hairdressers feel this good :D

Surprised to see masks in schools are being dropped here in England next Monday. Matt Hancock has suggested they may be dropped altogether next month, if he told me the sky was blue, I'd have to look outside to check tbf but to drop them in schools feels like a big step towards dropping them altogether.

Yes so little for kids to do at the moment.

    Genuinely good to hear!
It is interesting to see how people feel free at different stages of the relaxation depending on their life. Some people who have all their family and friends in the same county (let's say Kerry as it is large enough) would probably have felt free as soon as they could move in the county. People working in retail, doing an outdoor sport, going to the mass, not planning to travel abroad could feel the routing coming back this week.

In my case, family in France, working from home until September, heavily depending on gym and swimming pools, I really need to wait for the very last restrictions to ease to feel like I get most of my life back.

Was listening to a segment on Pat Kenny Newstalk earlier today about covid around Europe. Talked to journalists in Spain, Italy and France. I'll have rates a lot higher than Ireland currently. All have outdoor dining open now or in following week. All will have outdoor dining opening in June. We are well out of step as usual.

People on here and government were saying we don't want to open up to early and have it take a step back and be in lockdown even longer, look at Europe in another wave. Yet even with their supposed new wave, they are a step ahead of us still. There's no reason we can't have outdoor dining open right now with indoor mid June. Every extra week closed is costing this country so much money unnecessarily.

Next Monday 17th I think non-essential shops can open, finally I can return CDs that were faulty when I bought them for Xmas for the family at Zhivago and get them changed. :)

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

    Absolutely.

If you remember back a few weeks when RTE reported hourly that France had entered a “severe lockdown” (less severe than Ireland’s for the last 5 months) and made a point of highlighting the restrictions in France.

France have now got a faster roadmap than Ireland announced today, must see is there anything on RTE later about that

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thelocal.fr/20210511/cafes-shops-cinemas-how-france-will-ease-covid-restrictions-from-next-week/%3famp
    May 19th

Bars and restaurants can reopen their outdoor terraces at a 50 percent capacity and with six people per table maximum. All customers must be seated
Cinemas, theatres, concert halls and show rooms may reopen at a 35 percent capacity and an upper limit of 800 spectators for large establishments.

Paddy can get his gruaig cut since yesterday so he’s happy out, something the french man could always get done

If nothing else comes out of this I hope people remember to never trust RTE or any Irish media outlet ever again....they have failed us spectacularly over the last 14 months...if you watch them long enough they'll convince you the world is about to end!!!

It was bad enough when they ignored Church Sex abuse scandals and endemic political corruption for decades...they are now doing damage to people's mental health!

i thought everyone in europe was waiting to hit the magical 50 percent vaccininations and to follow the science that the uk reopening is providing us...
looks like as per usual we are behind behind the curve.

in this article we are the only country waiting till june for outdoor dining.

They even announced concerts and stadium games up to 5k people from 7th June.
And any other type of events >1000 people (even indoor) on the 30th of June.

Outdoor gatherings of more > 15people are not even on the calendar in Ireland. A running club cannot make a training session with more than 15people, even if they are running socially distanced in large parks like Phoenix Park. But sure "outdoor is safe and is the priority" :pac:
