    Lightyears
Oscar winner Sissy Spacek and three-time Emmy-nominated Modern Family star Ed O’Neill are set as the leads in Amazon’s sci-fi drama Lightyears, from writer Holden Miller and producer Daniel C. Connolly. Argentinian director Juan José Campanella will direct and executive produce the first two episodes of the series, a co-production of Amazon Studios and Legendary Television. It’s scheduled to begin filming later this year.

This marks O’Neill’s return to TV following the end of Modern Family’s 11-season run last spring.

Written by Miller, Lightyears follows Franklin and Irene York, played by O’Neill and Spacek, a couple who years ago discovered a chamber buried in their backyard which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet. They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence is quickly upended…and the mysterious chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined.

    Our Flag Means Death
Oscar winner Taika Waititi is taking on yet another role in the HBO Max period comedy Our Flag Means Death. In addition to serving as executive producer and pilot director, Waititi will star opposite Rhys Darby in the series from writer David Jenkins (People of Earth), Garrett Basch (What We Do in the Shadows) and Dan Halsted.

Created by Jenkins, who also serves as showrunner, Our Flag Means Death is based loosely on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet (Darby), a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate.

Waititi will play Blackbeard, history’s most feared and revered pirate.

“Our Blackbeard is a legend, a lover, a fighter, a tactical genius, a poetic soul, and quite possibly insane. Only one man could play this role, and that is the great Taika Waititi. We’re thrilled beyond measure he’s decided to don the beard,” said Jenkins.

I haven't watched a minute of Kenan but I've watched all of Young Rock, as a show, I think it could work well as a year to year but the format of going through the different stages of his life each week is surprisingly engaging, I forgot about it for a few weeks but caught up very quickly.

I watch the A&E Documentary on Stone Cold earlier and the Rock was on it, that man has gone through a serious amount of body transformation

Pennyworth looks like it will move from Epix to HBO Max for season 3.

After two seasons on Epix, DC origin series series Pennyworth is plotting a move to HBO Max for a potential third season.
I hear negotiations between Epix and Pennyworth producer Warner Bros. TV are still ongoing, and they involve hammering out a deal for the existing two seasons of the show, which premiered on Epix, to also be available on HBO Max. Reps for Epix, WBTV and HBO Max declined comment.

The development is not surprising. Pennyworth was sold to MGM-owned Epix months before WBTV parent WarnerMedia announced plans to launch its own streaming service, which became HBO Max. Existing originals on Warner Bros. TV Group’s platform DC Universe, including Harley Quinn and Titans, migrated to HBO Max, which was billed as a premium home for DC programming with an extensive upcoming slate of high-profile series such as Peacemaker, Green Lantern, Untitled Gotham City Police Department project, set in the same world as Pennyworth, and DC Superhero High.

    On Call
Dick Wolf is continuing to grow his television empire.

The creator of the Law & Order and Chicago franchises is moving into half-hour drama with his latest series set at Amazon’s IMDb TV.

Deadline understands that the free streaming service has ordered On Call. The show follows a pair of police officers on patrol in Long Beach, CA.

Each episode will track the duo as they respond to a new radio call, arriving on the scene to resolve an incident.

The series comes from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television as well as digital studio ATTN:.

It comes hours after Deadline revealed that Wolf, who also co-created CBS’ FBI, was handed a straight-to-series order by NBC for Law & Order: For The Defense. That spinoff will take an unbiased look inside a criminal defense firm and will be showrun by Carol Mendelsohn.

    Scarface And The Untouchable
The epic, years-long battle between Al Capone and Eliot Ness, who clashed on the biggest stage in the world on their way to becoming ultimate American enemies, is the subject of a new TV series in early development at Showtime, from Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, run by Heather Kadin, and CBS Studios where the company is based.

Written by Ben Jacoby (Newsflash, Flash Boys), the project is based on Max Allen Collins and A. Brad Schwartz’s nonfiction book Scarface and the Untouchable: Al Capone, Eliot Ness and the Battle for Chicago.

A Chicago Public Library Best Book of the Year, Scarface and the Untouchable, published in 2018 and optioned by Secret Hideout, chronicles the lives of gangster Al Capone and his lawman nemesis, Eliot Ness in Prohibition-era Chicago. Described by publisher HarperCollins as “the new definitive history of gangster-era Chicago,” the book “draws upon decades of primary source research—including the personal papers of Ness and his associates, newly released federal files, and long-forgotten crime magazines containing interviews with the gangsters and G-men themselves.”

    Billy the Kid
Premium network Epix has greenlighted Billy the Kid, an hourlong series about the famous American outlaw, written by Vikings and The Tudors creator Michael Hirst.

Otto Bathurst is set to direct the first two episodes of the eight-episode first season, executive produced by Hirst, Donald De Line of De Line Pictures, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Amblin Television, and Bathurst and Toby Leslie via One Big Picture.

The series is described as an epic romantic adventure based on the life of Billy the Kid, also known as William H. Bonney — from his humble Irish roots, to his early days as a cowboy and gunslinger in the American frontier, to his pivotal role in the Lincoln County War and beyond.

“Billy the Kid has always been a hero of mine since I was – well, a kid! I grew up in the North of England but it made no difference! Billy was a special kind of outlaw,” Hirst said. “For a start he was so young – and for another thing, he wasn’t a psychopath who enjoyed killing, nor a criminal who robbed for material gain. He was an outlaw most of his life, but he never wanted to be. Born into a poor Irish family of immigrants, he always wanted to go straight, to be a ‘new American’. But he was never allowed to.

“Billy’s story is much more than a fantastic drama about a charismatic cowboy – although it is that! It’s also the story of the immigrant, and the story of the creation of the new America from the lawless, violent chaos of the mid-West and its many nations. So in the end it’s not just a story at all – it’s an American myth!”

Billy the Kid is a co-production between Epix Studios and MGM International Television Productions, in association with Nordic Entertainment Groups streaming service Viaplay. Casting is already underway. Production is slated to begin this June in Calgary, AB, with an eye towards a 2022 premiere on MGM-owned Epix.
