People know that Biden did nothing wrong. It's a tactic.

Whatever about Biden, but Walters did, she basically suggests violence if a not guilty verdict was given.

I didn't think there was any possible way that he could be found not guilty....but then again this is America so it was a relief to see that they came to the right verdict in the end.

You can look at both arguments online. RTE ony reported on the prosecution. They completely ignored the defence

The defence was shiite because what he did was indefensible.

    Justice was done surprisingly.

I am guessing you didn't see the full length tape?

You ask this without a sense of irony because the 12 people who actually watched and listened to all the evidence presented by the prosecution and the defence decided that Chauvin did murder Georgie Floyd.

I bet they still burn the city

    They'll eventually eat themselves

Id say there will be a retrial, no doubt.

That congresswoman basically said find him guilty or we'll riot...lunacy.

Didn't the judge more or less acknowledge it to the defense?

Retrial all they want, it won't change anything. The defence was just going through the motions because even they knew the video and autopsy evidence could bring nothing less than a guilty verdict.

They might if the police stop killing people.

Would you be happy enough if the Gardai killed around 18 people a year here? Cos thats what itd be if they killed people at the same rate here as police in America do.

US cities were never peaceful crime free places.

Hell, you can’t even say the various police departments were peaceful crime free places.

And how does the defence prove that influenced the jury?

Maxine Watters was stupid as f*ck, but the hope this will be thrown out because of that is far from set in stone.

It will give them an appeal hearing, after that they need to prove the jury was influenced. Good luck with that.

Deserves serious jail time for what he did, trial was a circus though and he’ll probably get out of the murder 2 on appeal? Probably rightly so.

Nope. I watched the whole thing this evening and daily before. They only occasionally reported tibits in so far prosecution arguments countered them

Brian O'Donovan went through the defences claims about drugs and carbon monoxide being responsible for Floyd's death and not Chauvin.

Well, since the jury likely weren't relying on rte news to hear the arguments put forth, it's irrelevant. The jury heard both sides. The jury had all charges explained to them and what is required for guilt.

Yeah but what would they know. A certain group of posters on here clearly know better.............

But the jury weren't watching RTE.

I reckon the Irish fella Tobin was the primary reason for conviction tbh

    Ms

Delighted for him. How that nasty person ever became a police officer is beyond me. His defence was pathetic by the way. I think even they knew that Derick Chauvin was guilty. Someone to do what he done has no place in society. To kill a person like he did slowly and painfully. I just heard there on Sky that one of the officers serving under him had only been out of the Academy for 48 hours and he was supposed to be teaching this young officer. Now that young officers life is ruined too.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

They know about as much as Chavins actual defence team. Which has been shown to be nothing.

Really? Police forces over there have no shortage of the likes of him.

They also knew better than the judge and the guy clearly knows nothing about law. The other fascinating one is most of them don't seem to understand the charges after weeks of watching it.

Is there any truth to the jury being able to use their phones during deliberation or is that codswallop?

Finally cops will think twice before killing unarmed black people.

Trials don't just have to be fair, they have to be seen to be fair. The argument will be there was no way for Chauvin to get a fair trial given the political influence and Watters has foolishly reinforced that. I don't agree but that's the reality, and it is possibly strong grounds for an appeal.

America is a strange place, genuinely looks like a democracy that is collapsing because many of those in charge have no respect for the principles required in a democracy.

In the context of tonight's verdict and remembering how rare it is for a cop to be convicted of a crime like this, thinking about the history of the subjugation of Black Communities in the US and then imagine being one of the posters here who is disappointed by the verdict, who directly or indirectly thinks Chauvin is hard done by, who thinks justice hasn't been done, imagine being so bereft of humanity.
