Low cost smart scales?

Hey all,

My wife is in the market for a low cost scales that will tell her things like her weight (obvs), BMI, visceral fat, muscle mass and whole fat body percentage. She views this as a tech object, so I have been tasked to buy one.

I checked Amazon and could see a bunch of scales which all offer, to my non-education mind, similar specs in the £20-30 range. Is there any I should be looking for?

I dont think a scales can measure visceral fat. The way they work is they send a small electrical current through your legs when you stand on it in bare feet, and the level of resistance it encounters helps it determine body water, which it then uses to infer fat, lean mass etc.

They arent particularly accurate Im afraid, but id get one with a good app attached. I have one and the app is very annoying to use.

We got this one and however accurate they are it functions well , is easy to use and the app links easily and quickly.

Many scales have a visceral fat feature. I'm not sure how it's calculated.

They can be prone to fluctuations, but averaged across a number of readings I imagine that they no less accurate than other methods.

I got this one and it arrives tomorrow. Good to hear it’s easy to use! My last scales was a WeightWatchers one that you had to plug by USB into a computer. I did it twice and then got an app to log my weight manually on as it was quicker!

Have this one also and its very easy to set up, data transfer to app is instant

Serious doubt it. Garmin have their own scale. But it ain't cheap

Thank you for the very detailed reply, it was a long shot but some times these manufacturers can get around the software.

Think I'll just buy it and have the arduous task of manual updating weight on the Garmin app. :pac::D

I have the same scale. Its possible to auto sync with a little bit of setup. 1) Download fitbit app and make an account. 2) Open Renpho app, go to settings, click fitbit and connect to your account. 3) Download Myfitnesspal, create account, open app, go to settings, my apps and devices, connect to fitbit and garmin connect. Verify by taking a measurement on the scale and looking under weight in garmin connect (sometimes it takes a few minutes but its usually very fast). I've been using this method over a year now (mar2019). It stopped syncing once in that time but after I disconnected and set it again it worked fine.

A reddit user posted this long winded work around to sync with Garmin.
