Why would there be a need for vaccine passports if everyone is going to have the vaccine by September anyways?

    Makes no sense...

It's also extremely unfair to allow vaccinated people to have lives while those who don't have the option of one being told to stay away from people etc.

All talk about equality but when it comes down to it, they're happy for certain portions of society to have better lives than others.

I agree. Soon enough people will have to admit that the so-called conspiracy theorists who predicted vaccine passports were right all along.

People who are fully vaccinated currently are sitting on their hoops unable to do anything except maybe meet somebody they happen to know (within 5k? Is that part of it?) who also happens to be fully vaccinated.

It seems like a huge waste of several weeks/months of supposed immunity. Especially after a year of being able to do f-all.

Ye but what can you let them do? Go further than 5k is about it sure everything is closed

To coerce people who have less risk from flu than from covid to receive a medical treatment they don't want to. That's the reason.

    Idiotic comments abound

    Terribly constructive post there, raind.

Did you have anything to add or are you just here to be glib and ornery because you find yourself in want of a substantial refutation?

When something is terribly idiotic you call it that.

The pivot from anti restrictions to vaccine sceptics begins.

I'm not vaccine sceptic. You merely object to my language.

Had I said "to 'encourage' 'anti-vaxxers' to get vaccinated" I doubt you'd have felt compelled to post.

    Same exact sentiment, regardless.

Jaysus the anti vax narrative on the thread has gone up a couple of levels over the Easter weekend.

I mean it was always there simmering, but it is bursting into life now.

    Only took a year.

So we should keep those activities banned because it might have been 500 cases?

The fact is that 262 cases out of 265,000 cases are linked to outdoor activities.

At some point there has to be a consideration of risk and reward; outdoor activities like sports and construction bring a lot of good to the country and little risk.

On your point about activities surrounding outdoor meetings: It's simple, keep the message clear about meeting outdoors and not indoors.
Don't treat people like thickos by banning everything.
The constant narrative of not trusting people and treating them as thick is why we are seeing less and less compliance anyway.

WHO said that? Go reread the comment .

Those pretending nothing to see here - are indeed "treating people like thickos"

As for those thanking that comment ...

“Freedoms will be granted” is a phrase that should make people’s blood run cold when it comes from the mouth of a politician. Particularly when the most easily propagandised in the society are already cheering on the cracking of skulls for the crime of sitting in a ****ing park.

But the vast majority of people who get covid will experience only mild symptoms so he's right about the sniffle part, as much as you might want to believe otherwise

Will this be the very very last lockdown ?

Going back into another one for winter 2021 would be so damaging but like the other ones the decision makers pockets won't be affected by it

Pfizer says its COVID-19 vaccine offers protection for at least six month, and is also fully effective against the worrying South African variant of the virus

Despite the success of Covid-19 vaccines, health authorities and vaccine experts have said it is possible that booster shots will be needed seasonally or annually to ensure protection until the virus is fully stamped out around the world

^ thats of google. so yeah few months about right once you take lockdown down for many before needing another shot might be a norm.

I thought immunity is supposedly conferred for six months after full vaccination schedule is complete?

Thats the thing. I don't. The comment I was replying to is still bs because it ignores the very real risk of infection to others and has nothing to do with what was originally written.

The ironic thing is that, if that is the case, it will be the younger population who will be protected for next winter and it will be the older, more at risk cohort who could be exposed and needing the boosters. Lets hear it for the Christmas 2021 lockdown so we can protect the vulnerable!

Did sam not predict up to 100.000 deaths possible if so he should not be on the airwaves for anything except to laugh at him .

    So
Sam predict's 100,000 deaths if we do nothing!
Instead of doing nothing we imposed restrictions designed to reduce transmission.
    We didn't have 100,000 deaths

From that you deduce he was wrong?

O.1 Covid cases occur in the outdoors - Glad this is finally being told to the Irish public , all those stupid outdoor laws , and snitching on people getting excercise and Vitam in D outdoors - when the virus transmits indoors , like most respitary illness's , can we now get some form of life back , outdoors :-

I'm absolutely not against the vaccine and have no issue with Leo but by christ I hope that was just worded badly , 'freedoms will be granted' is possibly the worst way to put this. I hope the vaccine rollout continues full steam ahead, there will always be some who won't get it but the idea of a 2 tier society for those who have and have not been vaccinated (due to time etc.. no fault of their own) is a disgrace.

"Leo Varadkar has confirmed the Government is developing a “digital green certificate vaccine pass” for people to prove they have been fully inoculated" Yeah this is definitely going down the vaccine passport rabbithole. Not a good move.
