It is really though. VRT is only 7% on an EV, when you consider that some fossil fuel powered cars (which are much lighter and therefore much more environmentally friendly in terms of the manufacturing process) are on 37% if they're something like a GR Yaris or a Civic Type-R, they're more than heavily subsidised as they are without another €5,000 of taxpayers' money on people who can well afford to buy such cars anyway.

Sometimes the grant is the difference between someone buying an ev or not , it was in my case and our car would no longer be eligible (e-tron)

The Tiguan has become expensive but, so has the Passat and the resale value seems to be holding fairly well. That being said a 1.5 TSI manual Tiguan Life should be doable at around the 35K mark. It has a fairly reasonable spec level and the winter pack will add heated seats for about €350.

    Id4?

Why won’t they go Tiguan if already in a VW?
    Seems the obvious choice.

Ya its the obvious choice but the ones at that price seem to look shocking. I checked them out before and it was about 44k for a decent looking one.

Seat Ateca? Same as a Tiguan but a bit cheaper.

I agree with this. The low 7% vrt and the grant made the 330e a much more appealing buy for me and I would have gone another direction I’d say if a 330i or 330d was similarly priced.

Is the ateca not smaller. I thought the tarraco would be more comparable with tiguan.

The Ateca is slightly shorter and narrower than the 5 seat Tiguan but the Tarraco is the same size as the Tiguan all space.

Makes sense - looking at tarraco there and its circa 40k.

Tarraco is a big bus similar dimensions to the Kodiaq.

Having sat in a Tarraco in the showroom they are a fair bit bigger than a Tiguan 5 seat version anyway. I would have thought they were along the lines of a Toareg.

    It's posted above

The terraco, kodiak and tiguan allspace

    The Ateca, koraq and tiguan

There the 2 groups. But the tiguan is slightly bigger than the other 2.

The ateca looks a category below the tiguan - id find it hard to believe that the ateca is on the same running gear as the tiguan.

My sister has a Tiguan and we have an Ateca, parked side by side they are practically identical in size, same with interior space.

The Ateca is built on the MQB A1 platform which is a shortened version of the MQB A2 used by the Tiguan. Skoda Karoq also built on the MQB A1 platform whereas the Tarraco and Kodiaq are built on the MQB A2 platform. One is just a shortened version of the other.

The Tiguan is a better finished car

    It also costs more.

Would spending extra on a Tiguan be reflected in higher residual values thus getting you the extra spend back at trade in time?

Do they hold value like a golf? Golf are unreal for strong residuals, the missus has one.

On a percentage basis they are probably better than the Golf and certainly better than the Seat

The Ateca appears to have very good residuals.
No other Seat does (well the Terraco isn't old enough to tell)

What's the deal Mark with all the e tron Gt reviews appearing at the same time?
It appears Audi Ireland have a few of these and journalists all had them for a few hours?
Were you stopped from releasing until a certain time or what? Are Audi trying to control the message here?

It is a good looking car but checking out the stats it is longer and wider than A7 so too big to throw around country roads here and interior too cramped with too small a boot.

I do wonder about the packaging the a7 is a big car with a big boot how can something bigger be that less practical

Is it not just more a vanity offering than having practicality in mind? Maybe a cheaper alternative to a Porsche Taycan rather than an expensive alternative to an A7?

I reckon the more practical and arguably better looking taycan cross turismo with its hatch back will easily outsell the regular taycan. If Audi bring out something similar in the gt the same will happen. The dimensions will make it look good but day to day it’s too big especially considering the packaging of the interior space.

Agreed. A car for people that don’t want to keep a low profile.

GT is very easy to throw around corners, it handles very well.

As regards all releasing at the same time - they wanted an embargo so everyone could have time to prep material, write / publish articles, edit videos etc but no brand would have editorial control over a review believe it or not.

I’m sure it handles great but it’s sheer size is going to be a pain at least in Europe.

It was just unusual to see reviews all appear at the same time. I’ve hear of international embargo’s when a car is first released but never locally in Ireland.

No, it would be very rare, first time I've seen it in nearly 3 years of doing these.
