When the numbers surge we go into stricter lockdown.

And when the numbers relax we remain in that lockdown.

The restrictions today are the same restrictions that were in place when we had over 6000 cases a day.

Cork have 19 cases out of a population of over 500,000 people. Level 5.

Nothing the public do has any impact on NPHET's recommendations.
Try telling the teachers union that at 2000 cases a day they have to teach. Its not happening. That is what will happen if people dont hold out a bit longer.

    Two things on this:

    1. I think just about everybody is sh*t sick of hearing what teachers think about anything. They are in the news again today complaining. Nobody cares anymore.

    2. Cases are becoming an increasingly irrelevant metric of measuring the damage inflicted by covid because so many of the at risk members of the population are vaccinated. If we theoretically had 4000 cases a day and 0 hospitalisations, who cares about cases?

The Irish media and government have seriously damaged the thought process and risk analysis of many people.

A significant number of people likely won’t have the self confidence to return to normal after this

Thankfully I will. But agree with your point. I’d agree to a large extent it’s over but still can’t go for a coffee have a pint go for a meal go to the gym go to gaa training go on holidays go to the office. So while it might be ok to say it’s over in reality it’s far from over.

The vaccine wont work as well due to new variants hospitals will be overwhelmed and we will be in this mess forever.

Forever, eh? Where's all the free money going to come from "forever"?

You're talking as if Covid is an extremely deadly killer. The statistics say it's not. This year is the end, if people stand up and say "no more" to prolonged restrictions. Which it looks like they're beginning to do. You have to accept that some sort of risk will always be present in life.

As for teachers refusing to work etc, they can be replaced over time. Same for any industry. Refuse to work? Fine, but you can't expect to keep getting paid.

Probably, but if enough of them opened then the government wouldn't be able to do a thing.

They wouldn't have to, when the first claim comes in and they realise their insurance won't pay out they'll close their own doors quick enough.

I don't know about that tbh. I can't find that anywhere.

But might be better to look at what he says in context

There's plenty of good news with regard to Covid tbh. Especially with regard to the early development of not one but several vaccines. And I think most people know with that the end is within sight.

Unfortunately he doesn't seem to have lived up to his own words about "wise and informed policy choices" considering his previous no vaccine / no control covid policy.

Isn't that the kind of message that needs to be shouted from the rooftops? So many people, particularly in the West, are extremely distressed because of messaging that's the exact opposite of that.

    They won't.

Where have I heard this 'wait a few more days/weeks/months nonsense before? Just hold firm, we have only been locked down for almost a year. Whatever happened to flattening the curve?

The vaccines are completely effective against all known variants. You have been watching too much Micheal Martin.

Hospitals are 'overwhelmed' every single year. Articles linked from 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016 which all speak about hospitals being overwhelmed. Strangely enough, we didn't shut down the whole country on these occasions.

Schools wont open because teachers are intelligent and wont teach when its dangerous. Shops and pubs can open illegally, work away but when people start shoplifting on mass in shops and fighting in pubs the guards wont be helping. They havent been vaccinated and the shops and pubs are open illegally so they have no power to arrest anyone . You are talking anarchy here.

Hospitals have not been overwhelmed with a virus that causes them to triage who they can save. That has never happened and it never will because majority of people are sensible and have morality and empathy thank god.

That's something we'll see come into play on the media probably as we enter Q3 or Q4 2021. People moaning about how hard the transition back to normal is for them.

"After 18 months of lockdown I have panic attacks every time I want to go shopping."

By this time next year we'll be inundated by think pieces from people going on about how they actually kind of miss the lockdowns. Bonus points for linking said articles to gender or race.

He's been pushing bull**** from the start of the pandemic.
Here he and a colleague back last March argue that the US death count would be in the range of 20,000 to 40,000 if 100 million were infected.
    https://med.stanford.edu/content/dam/sm/id/documents/COVID/Is%20the%20Coronavirus%20as%20Deadly%20as%20They%20Say_%20-%20WSJ.pdf

He then of course went on to push herd-immunity via infection for months. What a ****ing disaster that would have been. He's thankfully shut the **** up on this now that we have vaccines, but not before getting the ear of Trump and filling the giant baby's head full of nonsense. Nonsense that got people killed.

He's now got a new line of incorrect bull**** that he's pushing, having left the GBD behind without so much as an apology.

I don't care about his educational credentials. We've seen from the likes of himself, Gupta, Hennigan and Cummins that sometimes credentials don't mean a damn thing. These are some of the most poisonous **** alive in the world today.

    I hope he dies screaming

What next? Somebody will be murdered, and then where are we? Drive by shootings in the night, it'll be like Boys n the Hood. And then they'll have hoes selling their wares in the middle of the street and the pimps will be using crack cocaine to keep the whores under control.

    Hehe

Now whilst numbers go up nothing will open and schools wont go back. So people can move around as they want. Up to them but they wont be shopping, going for meals and kids wont be educated. Really the govt will always get their wages, up to the people if they want to sunbathe!!!!!!

The government serve the people, not the other way around. Who do you think pays politician's wages?

This ultimately ends when the people say so.

They're easing restrictions now as they know people have had enough and won't continue to adhere.

Drive around today and check out all the packed parks, seafronts etc. It's like any other public holiday. Might as well open up and get people back to work.

Theft is still theft whether the shop is open legally or not! Assault is still assault weather the pub is open legally or not! The guards will police that as normal! The restrictions don’t negate those (or any) crimes in any way!

    Jesus the Christmas one

This variant will get us to up to the end of June. We Then have to go through the July version, then the bank to school version which has the power to stay outside the walls of those establishments

The October version then will lead us into the December with the Pre christmas variant

I’ve this image of him in my head as being up all night on the computer frantically googling bad news. He counts sheep exponentially to get himself to sleep. He constantly misplaces his glasses and then realises he’s wearing them. His car is full of papers he’s printed off himself on all the variants and he rehearses his lines while looking at himself in the mirror and stops and starts every few minutes to ensure he gets the level of panic and terror in his voice just right. He comes home and watches himself back and takes notes on his terror scale and marks himself from 0-10 on how convincing he is. His notes include things like “make eyes bulgier”. I bet he has constant sweaty palms.

Did you see Micheal Martin on TV 3 news, grinning away saying he was allowing the Easter Bunny travel this Easter because the boys and girls were so good helping fight covid. It was completely surreal, like a poor mans Putin.

Scarily he seemed to think this was all positive and a great laugh. The idea that he has so much power and controls over all our lives. He now has children writing to him, please Dear Leader or Mr T they apparently called him are we allowed celebrate Easter. Yes children you have been good at following the rules....

And all this promoted on prime time tv by a supposedly independent station. What is going on here, we have gone completely off the reservation.

Wtf BoJo is now saying that two vaccinated people cannot meet up indoors in the UK as the vaccines are not 100% effective so what's the fcukin point of the vaccines. I thought the vaccines were supposed to mean we could go back to normal seems not as the goalposts keep changing.
