Yeah it's a big ploy by NPHET to keep us all inside because that makes loads of sense, they're mad to have the case numbers increase, sure why not..

Or.. maybe we're finally on a road to better testing, tracing and surge control, meaning no more lockdowns and better understanding of the virus.

But yeah, it's a big mysterious plot by NPHET, even though other countries successfully containing this virus have been doing it for the guts of a year.

People are all mad to get out of lockdown and then they're mad at measures that help us out of lockdown, it's hilariously sad.

Someone on an Irish times facebook article on testing reckons the guys in NPHET are personally benefitting from testing.:)

Heres the NPHETS the shadowy Cabal wanting to keep case numbers high and us in lockdown tin foil hat theory, rather than what it actually is which is to catch cases and understand why certain counties have higher incidence rates.

I cant wait for the vaccination program to complete and this thread dies the death it so fully deserves with comments like that

    This bollocks again.

NPHET want to keep cases high so they can keep hold of their non-existent power.

Yeah, the Orwellian circle jerking among some in here is the saddest thing I've seen. It's the main reason I'm looking forward to things opening up again, so they can look back and see how thick they were.

7-day average in cases 557 it was 580 last Friday.

Not a big decrease but still a decrease

8 further deaths RIP 591 new confirmed cases

No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change this World

That would be a ploy by the HSE who are running them! NPHET just advise and generally get on people's nerves!

I’ve heard from quite a few family and friends who have got their first or second jab over the last week or so. Although the daily numbers are high, I think we’ll see a big decrease in hospital/ICU numbers over the next month. If we get some nice weather we’ll have more people mixing outdoors too and for the first time in a while I’m starting to feel positive.

    RTE:
At least 14,000 asymptomatic people were tested over the past week at other walk-in centres and 3% tested positive for the virus.

Higher than I would have imagined.

I heard that on the radio earlier. It is a pretty high %. It means that there were 420 people walking around last week allegedly with no symptoms. It shows how difficult this virus is to stop and how easily it spreads without some people even knowing they have it. One good thing is that many more people will have contracted and got over it with no adverse impact on their health meaning that there will be a larger cohort of immune people.

It also suggests this is a valuable new tool. Rapid testing needs a role as well.

VUI is variant under investigation, haven't heard of vuc but it's definitely not variant "of" anything considering the U.

    It's VOC: Varient of Concern

Many feel that they de facto run the country.

Many can feel whatever they want but they’re wrong. Like, very wrong.

It just suits the government to hide behind them so they don’t have to take responsibility for ignoring them for over a year.

‘Many people’ fall right into the government’s trap.

We already have seen a massive decrease over the last month.

We’re in a better position than we realise

Apparently the new variant is up to 90% more transmissible
    According to George

I've never heard that high a figure

Hospital patients reduced by nearly half in a month.
From 494 down to 255. Bloody good drop!

Funny how being promised something as part of an agreement and said promise then getting reneged a few short months later causes problems isn't it.

I heard him on the radio today and it dawned on me that he really does not understand what is going on or have a good handle on the intricacies of the pandemic. He is a bit bit like a parrot just repeating inanities. Like his general reporting and his political career he seems self obsessed, unaware and a little stupid.

The deal has been superseded by newer scientific advice and we are following the science.

I walked out of the room and waited and came back in and RTÉ were doing a depressing tour of the European continent. Can they stop for even a day ?

How will higher case numbers get Ireland out of lockdown?

Knowing it’s case numbers that are a metric used to justify lockdown?

Blatant lies like that will just piss people off even more than they are already.

I can see a lot of parallels between George's performance as a journalist and as a politician, in the sense that he's completely ****ing useless at both.

There was actually a UK study that put it as between 40% to 90% more transmissible.

    George likes the extremes.

Case rate per capita in Northern Ireland is now 46% below the south’s case rate per capita:
