People shouldn't need to be told that meeting indoors is stupid
    Then again...

It's really not complicated, if you don't allow people to meet outside (up to 6 people maybe even 10 in gardens, golf, tennis, etc, etc) you are directly incentivising them to meet up inside!

This was a great missed opportunity to drill home about how much safer it is to meet outside by not just allowing it but encouraging it. Not some token one other household in a public space.

I despair for anyone who can't grasp the simple logic in encouraging and incentivising relatively safe socialisation outdoors.

"Court orders Belgium to end coronavirus measures due to insufficient legal basis"

    https://www.politico.eu/article/belgian-court-slaps-down-covid-19-measures-reports/

A Belgian court has given the Goverment 30 days to fix their lockdown legislation as it is illegal in it's current form.

Are there similar legal challenges ongoing or planned in Ireland does anyone know?

they will just fix whatever part that is legally problematic and continue with the lock down.

I’m not being funny here and please understand that I don’t bother with the news anymore but why is the next 8 weeks crucial? What’s the context of this? Is it that we’ll have a critical mass vaccinated by then so “hold firm” or what are they on about?

more people vaccinated and the easing of restrictions would be what i think they are talking in terms of.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

To be fair, today they did say that people who are going to ignore them should meet their friends outside rather than indoors.

The problem is the media aren't reporting this.

Fine until some ghoul calls the guards.

the people meeting up in doors because they can't meet outside would be meeting in groups of more then allowed if allowed to meet outside.
nobody is incentivising them to meet indoors, they are choosing to do it themselves and are the only ones to blame for doing it.
    it's not da gubament's fault.

Nope, only the Irish will acquiesce to consistent lockdowns

The evidence is everywhere now that Ireland is an outlier across the EU with the numbers of days business closures since March 2020

I'm hearing the next 8 weeks are crucial.

    https://twitter.com/FergalBowers/status/1377271039655301121
And what about when those 8 weeks are over, will it be another "crucial" 8 weeks of doing nothing?

The fact they haven't updated their lingo in over a year (bar adding on another 6 weeks here and there) is so embarrassing.

France and Germany both entering a fresh lockdown due to covid cases, looks like the continent are about 3 months behind us and are having their 'January' wave now

Germany also had their "December-January", France more so late November.

Supposedly they have them on Nphet subcommittees, but evidence of their presence is sadly lacking.

Now, whether they are there and putting forward the kind of proposals we are talking about, but being overruled by the cabal we see at the press briefings, is another matter.

Once people figured out this thing isn't the black death-esque plague scenario that it was proclaimed to be from the initial outset and the scaremongering hype narrative that was pushed this time last year to go with it, the vast majority now couldn't give a $hit because they realise everything they were shown this time last year has been proven to be a heap of $hit too.

Have we ever had a period since last march that wasn't crucial. Its lost all meaning. I actually do think they are completely clueless.

Rumour has it we can buy adult shoes tomorrow but by appointment only. Why should children get new shoes and I can’t.

    This was last Summer

    July 5th 2020

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.rte.ie/amp/1151339/
A further 11 cases have been confirmed, taking the overall total to 25,509.
The restrictions currently in place were due to be eased next Thursday, 9 July.

However, concern about a possible resurgence of the virus in other countries has prompted advice to the Government that they should remain in place for now.

They delayed reopening due to other countries case rates

Ironically those other countries were fully open at the time

    It’s been 54 week’s of Déjà vu

    Ridiculous comment.
Vast majority of land in this country is private property.
Blathering about ground that is bounded by a circle with a radius of 5km is preposterous.
In urban /city areas, you can walk the footpaths - not up and down peoples gardens.

I was correcting someone that said it was a 5km square area. Not ridiculous. Not blathering. Mathematics.

April's vaccination target revised down already. With the Government failing to have any notion of how to love with the virus, we are absolutely ****ed.

How people think this is acceptable defies belief.

There are a few die hard zealots about who believe everything tony, MM and Leo say and the propaganda/spin the media come out with and ignore the facts.

They need to realize if this is how we deal with covid, expect lockdowns 5 years from now.

    They're simply not getting it.

I have no confidence in Stephen Donnelly. He should stand down in my opinion and let someone who wants the position to get this train wreck back on the rails.

From April 12th. Can you have a painter painting inside your house?
    Thanks,
    Mick

Get them in now. Loads of work going on inside and outside houses.

And this is the reason why people just cannot be assed anymore.

They keep screaming "hold firm" at the public and telling us the next "2/4/6/8 weeks are critical", yet they are making an absolute hames of the one thing that will hopefully get us out of this mess once and for all.

If people had even an ounce of confidence in the government to get things right I think they would perhaps "hold firm" () for that bit longer, but what's the point when those exact same people berating us can't get their own house in order?

50/50 chance they'll even hit that.
Amazing all the headlines today were NPHET telling people to not be bold and of all the sites I visited that didn't seem news worthy.
Do we have any proper journalists in this country? Bring back vincent browne

These sort of questions baffle me a bit. The real answer is who the f*ck cares? Just do whatever you want and feel comfortable with.

Waiting in a queue? who the f*ck cares? Just do whatever you want and feel comfortable with

Speeding? who the f*ck cares? Just do whatever you want and feel comfortable with

Asked to help keep the rate of infection down and observe restrictions? who the f*ck cares? Just do whatever you want and feel comfortable with...

Philip Nolan has now revised his earlier statement to ‘the next 10 weeks are critical’.
