Mr Nolan from the caravan of joy on the news earlier. Stating the 4th wave (sounds like a movie) will be something of the magnitude of hospitalisation what we had in October ???? !!!!!!

Is Mr Nolan aware that we have a huge cohort of over 70s vaccinated now and that 90% of historical hospitalisation was from this cohort. Additionally we have a massive number of “naturally immune” of society due to the January infection spike (which should cover them to at least July with covered antibodies)

It’s either a failing of communication, deafness , or basic mathematical illiteracy that he is suffering from at this point. (Likely a combo of all 3)

Even my 6 year old can see that what he’s talking is utter b@€&0x

I don't particularly mind the endless faux outrage. I don't particularly mind the endless whinging and complaining. I don't even particularly mind that some seem to think what the media says is the god given truth.

I do mind the made up 'facts' and bs vague statistics - and all that without a single reference

    For example:
Is Mr Nolan aware that we have a huge cohort of over 70s vaccinated now and that 90% of historical hospitalisation was from this cohort.

    Let's look at that.

    First.

On the numbers of over 70s who have received their first and second dose todate . As of today the figures are:

    • First dose: 223,314
    • Second dose: 50,881

    https://covid19.shanehastings.eu/vaccines/

Total number over 70s to be vaccinated is approx 490,000

    https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/c1687-statement-from-the-national-public-health-emergency-team-monday-15-february/

So currently just under half of all those over 70 years of age have received the first dose only and about 10% who have received both their first and second dose

So the facts are: we have approx half who have received their first dose only and as of now are not fully vaccinated.

Second. A check of the statistics show that on average the over 70s have made up between 40% - 55% of all those in hospital with covid.

eg. "Hospitalised cases by age group" detailed here:
    https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/2f981-statement-from-the-national-public-health-emergency-team-tuesday-12-january/#hospital-statistics

    https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/48e25-statement-from-the-national-public-health-emergency-team-saturday-12-december/#hospital-statistics

    https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/b3fd5-statement-from-the-national-public-health-emergency-team-monday-12-october/

    https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/e3180-statement-from-the-national-public-health-emergency-team-monday-13-july/

    https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/ecbc11-statement-from-the-national-public-health-emergency-team-sunday-12-a/

So the facts are: The claim that "90% of historical hospitalisation were from this cohort" is wrong. The true figure is closer to 50%

So agreed. "Its either a failing of communication, deafness , or basic mathematical illiteracy that (some) appear to be suffering from at this point"

"Most 6 year olds would" indeed see that type of made up stuff is certainly "utter b@€&0x"

Btw you may like to find a reference (not a media piece btw) to support your personal opinion that "we have a massive number of “naturally immune” of society due to the January infection spike"

As It simply seems to be more if the same...

And you know the funniest thing is? Those who thanked the comment ...

TLDR? Fine. Short version. The "facts" in your comment are little more than rubbish.

Throughout all of your word vomit, all of the time, you conveniently choose to ignore reality in favour of more fabricated perception of our current situation.

The reason why people are getting sick and tired and losing the will to carry out any humanitarian acts to try and keep infection rates down, is because of the following:

    - The Government have continuously lied to the public and shifted the goalposts at numerous junctures. We continue to have the most stringent measures in Europe yet have among the lowest incidence rates and lowest hospitalizations per capita, those are facts. At this stage were locking down to prevent lockdown which is utter madness.

    - Despite this madness, the same individuals being asked to perpetually sit in their sitting rooms for the greater good are the ones who will earn significantly less income through tax increase for the next 5 years+ to pay for this bull**** while the Government who continuously spout their garbage mantras about being in this together will continue to get pay increases.

    - You're conveniently forgetting that we are 12 months into this and nothing has changed. The Government have failed to implement mass testing, failed to increase ICU capacity, failed to come up with anything resembling a plan to live with Covid and have relied solely on the vaccine rollout which has been a disaster.

    - And while we're on the vaccines, they've continuously reduced their targets (already down significantly for April too and will keep dropping as the weeks go by) which wouldn't be as big of an issue if they didn't choose to rely solely on them to pull us out of this abyss.

You're opinion on the matter fails to take into account basic human nature and psychology and your lack of understanding of the factors driving people's emotions is honestly baffling.

How are we supposed to stay motivated and philanthropic when our livelyhoods have been destroyed longer than anyone else's in Europe despite us doing amazingly well as a population to create one of the lowest incidences in the continent. Our prize for that effort? Finger wagging and even more effort required for absolutely no reason.

"Court orders Belgium to end coronavirus measures due to insufficient legal basis"

A Belgian court has given the Goverment 30 days to fix their lockdown legislation as it is illegal in it's current form.

Are there similar legal challenges ongoing or planned in Ireland does anyone know?

Get out of here Gemma, you're not welcome...

This may have been mentioned before but did any one see the Taoiseach respond to a question from Peadar Tobin about cancer screenings...he made the absolutely factual point that cancer will kill more people on account of delayed screenings...

He was told to "Get real..." by Martin.

A year of missed cancer screening is definitely going to have an impact on mortality as well as heart disease...but we need to "Get Real" here, the two biggest killers are not as important as the virus.

Another glimpse into the psychosis that has over taken our elected Government...this is going to be carnage in the years to come.

so 55 percent of over 70s have recieved either the first or second dose - thats a majority and growing by the day so i think you just interpret facts to suit your narrative . One dose of pfizer they reckon gives 80 percent protection so dont let that fact get in your way either.

But what you're trying to now claim is that people can just make up ****e, add some made up 'facts' and that then justifies those talking manure?

One thing in all that at least in some deep recess you're acknowledging that having successfully got the rate of infection down - that restrictions are working.

Good. We're making some progress at least.

Quite a scathing criticism of government and NPHET from Harry McGee in IT today.

I think this is the first MSM article I’ve read that lays the death stats bare.

“Anyone who in the past year has scrolled through the data of the weekly reports of the Health Protection Surveillance Centre will see how obvious the age factor is.

I had a quick look at the latest data yesterday. The overall percentages have been more or less the same each time I have looked at them. The stark reality is that 92 per cent of the 4,667 people who have died with Covid-19 were 65 years of age and over. A further 5.2 per cent were over 55.

That means only 2.6 per cent of people who died were under 55.

That’s 126 people out of 4,667. Only 50 people under the age of 45 have died, slightly over 1 per cent. That’s less people dying in that age bracket than in a bad flu season.”

Oh no, he said the ‘F’ word.

Attorney General Paul Gallagher has written to Oireachtas to point out to them that their intention to add 43 countries to the mandatory quarantine list is a misinterpretation of the law that was passed and is an ‘over-reach’.

The guy we have running the country is afraid of his life to make a decision and will push everything on to someone else. People have short memories it was the same when he was health minishter, he set up the hse and then wasted millions on reports and more reports that he did nothing about.

"Main steam media" isn't that phrase usually reserved for conspiracy theorists?

And his facts are indeed correct and that sadly this virus has killed many many more people over 65 compared to younger age groups

Yet the above conveniently ignores the important fact that the current situation is not just about deaths. But in actually keeping the rate of infection down in all age groups so that our health services can continue to cope.

Because the facts are that approx 50% of those in hospital with covid are under 65 years of age.
