My French conjugation is rusty (and not great to begin with) but maider is the French verb to help?

    Je mais
    Tu mais
    something else mais
    Nous maidez ? ?
which can be shortened to Maidez prounounced May-day

I'd say that's as close as makes little or no difference.

"M'aidez" in French translates to "help me" in English.

It's yer wan on the Rolls Royce emblem that shoots up, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.

Back to the last soccer one.....10-0 for Hungary v El Salvador in 1982 is correct.

Nobody having a stab at my boxing question from a few pages back? - what did Cassius Clay change his name to on the night that he beat Sonny Liston to win the World Heavyweight Championship?

    Cassius X

Good shout. Will give you the benefit of the doubt that you posted your answer before you saw that I'd given it anyway. :)

    Yup. Incorrect. :D

Am guessing the reason others avoided it is because the "obvious" answer is so "obvious" that it simply has to be wrong, or else I wouldn't have bothered asking it in the first place.

The correct answer is Cassius X. He didn't start calling himself Mohammed Ali until about a month later.
Was that not also the name of 90's French DJ group? Or were they just called Cassius?

    Another question for the quiz.

It seems to obvious but its Germany and a stereotype.

Hes hardly the only German to miss a penalty at the world cup is he?

Yep, Hawaii is the correct answer

I don't think it can be classified as North America. US, yes but not North America.

what does the acronym meta stand for?

to answer my own question from yesterday, meta in gaming (or indeed sports, but rarely applied to sport) sense means most effective tactic available

I stand corrected. Still regarded as the biggest victory though, because 10-1 is considered superior to 9-0.

As regards the ongoing Hawaii issue...have googled myself, and there are mixed results. Probably about 50% say it's considered North America continent, about40% says it's considered part of Oceania, and others say it's not really regarded as part of a continental shelf at all.

A better way of asking the question in a real quiz would definitely be "what's the southernmost state in the USA?"

Correct, the only player to miss a penalty in a penalty shootout.

    1982 semi final v france.

They have been involved in 4 world cup penalty shootouts in total.

I like quiz questions like that. Ones I dont know the answer to but its logical. Nice question.

Again, similar to a previous question on this thread.

How many European countries share a land border with France?

How many European countries share a land border with France?

    8 or 9 depending.

Spain, Andorra, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg & Belgium on the European continent.

They also share an island with the Netherlands in the Caribbean.

I was investigating a possible answer that wasn’t correct but yields a good question.

What has happened at every World Cup tournament except the 2006 tournament in Germany?

What's the answer to this? Can't work it out.

Are you mixing it up with west?

I would guess Maine is the most Eastern.

Was it a team being knocked out without conceding a goal

I misread the question and said the first thing that popped into my head! I think it’s the only World Cup that a team was knocked out without conceding anyway, so I’ll put forward the question
What country was the only team eliminated from the World Cup without conceding in the tournament!?
