I don't see why any amount of vaccinated people shouldn't be allowed to do whatever

Well I suppose its because they could still carry the virus and pass to someone who hasn't been vaccinated

In which case the plan is to keep this nonsense going until every last person in the country is vaccinated?

Not a chance will people accept that. We've been told for months that vaccination is our way out, and we know what section of society is actually at any real potential risk. As soon as this group is vaccinated, the country needs to fully reopen.

And one thing we as citizens and the electorate need to be clear with "our representatives" about is that we won't be going backwards come winter just because some might get a cold.

The excitement is palpable, what will our esteemed leader allows us to do next.

I pray our great leader allows us meet our family for a BBQ this summer. Wouldn't we be so lucky.

it's an illustration of the complete detachment from reality of government and NPHET.

Dr. Catherine Motherway, consultant in intensive care medicine said today that the median age of ICU patients in the wave since Christmas is 63. This is generally made up of people in their 70s and people in cohort 4, at very high risk to severe disease. She said this on Today with Claire Byrne radio show.

This is for the posters that like to mention that ICU is full of young people and that we can't open up even after all vulnerable are vaccinated or our ICUs will fill up. NPHET could do with having a listen to it too to be honest.

Median age of 63 by definition means 50% are 63 or younger

No intercounty travel until July according to Daniel McConnell of the Examiner on The Last Word with Matt Cooper just now.

Couldn't give a damn about any of those sports to be honest, but if GAA players are allowed travel the country again before the rest of us are then there's something (even more) BADLY wrong.

    huh?

top level sport has been supported throughout this pandemic across the world.

It's actually a bit of an anomaly that inter county GAA wasn't supported in the same way.

Cohort 4 i.e. vulnerable/underlying conditions. Diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease. hardly surprising.

Another speech to make reeling in the years ?

    Of today’s cases:

181 are men and 182 are women
    67% are under 45
    The median age is 34
127 are in Dublin, 34 in Kildare, 26 in Meath, 21 in Limerick, 19 in Offaly and the remaining 141 cases are spread across 18 other counties.

Maybe just a once-off but I wouldn't want to be giving a speech on restrictions with those numbers - funny that the Journal released them before 6pm today.

That's about as close to "zero covid" as you're going to get. I'm not saying open the pubs but, well, I wouldn't want to be Martin right now. (Or at any other time, in fairness.)

There's been intercounty travel for months. Thats a fact. the restrictions are nowhere near as draconian as some would have you believe.

I See NPHET want to add 43 new countries to the Mandatory Hotel Quarantine list, including USA, France, Italy and Germany. That'll go down well politically

Also, something I've been saying for literally 9 months now- Rapid Antigen tests finally get approval by the expert advisory group

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/wide-use-of-rapid-covid-tests-recommended-by-expert-group-but-members-are-split-1.4524104?mode=sample&auth-failed=1&pw-origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.irishtimes.com%2Fnews%2Fhealth%2Fwide-use-of-rapid-covid-tests-recommended-by-expert-group-but-members-are-split-1.4524104.

They might get used by September :P

Meanwhile Netherlands and Spain are already using them for international travel and for organising concerts, UK using them to prevent school outbreaks

May as well just ban all flights at that rate.

Also, ensure the absolute death of our already decimated tourist industry.

Oh 100% but I don't want to be treated as a 'criminal' for wanting to visit my family. My parents are in their 70s and will be vaccinated in the next month but i can't possibly see them for another couple of months?

Does this government and/or nphet not believe in the vaccination programs?!

I'm a bit gutted with the latest leaks to RTE which seem to be final. As of yesterday evening the indications were that kids outdoor sports and activities would be allowed from the 5th of April. Now it's to be the 26th, so a full 3 weeks later!

We know that kids, especially at primary school age, are not a big source of Covid spread nor are outdoor activities in general. NPHET have repeatedly made those points over and over again. I know a lot of sports clubs had plans already to go for Easter camps and returning to training etc. All put back again now. Very disappointing!
