Canada recommended AstraZeneca vaccine should not be used in adults under age 55:

I got AstraZeneca first dose about 4 weeks ago.
Had severe muscle ache and mild fever for the first 36 hours. Been grand since then.
I am male and in mid 30s.

have you had any other vaccines that you can remember, like the typhoid/Hep A vaccine?

if so, was it more or less as bad as that?

1st member of the CANZUK gang to do so I believe. I wonder will Ireland consider this too. It's now been decreed by a number of EU countries.

Did you feel tired after it ?
I had it at 2pm , was falling asleep by 9 and was in bed at 9.30. Slept till2.30 am them wide awake !

I did. The tiredness hit me about half an hour after and then in early afternoon I was truly fecked. The sweat pumped out of me, breathless walking up and down the stairs, earache headache bellyache. It was Thursday evening before I was myself again.

Given what we now know about VIPIT that would be a worrying set of side effects to have!!

Got it last Thursday same as you demographically. Had it at 2pm, woke at 3am absolutely on fire, was OK the next morning then mid afternoon a dose of chills. Went to bed Friday night and woke up Saturday back to normal.

Mine came a couple of days early the month I got the AZ vaccine and a couple of days late the month after.
Which is very unusual for me as mine come like clockwork same date every month

Mine can be early but late is very rare.
Well we have the vaccine now anyways so hope we will be ok :)

I'm starting to think we should flip things around and start giving AZ to our over-70s and Pfizer/Moderna to young people. Just in case it does turn out we can't use AZ anymore on young people and we've already vaccinated the over-70s cohort.

Pfizer and Moderna look seriously good at blocking transmission anyway so by giving to young people it should reduce overall case numbers significantly.

I'd prefer if we took an approach similar to the French or Canadians. Limit the rollout of the AZ shot to people over 55 (or over 65) while the matter is under investigation.

I think Norway came up with a stat that for under 55 a dose of AZ is more dangerous then getting covid. Based on how many deaths from covid were in under 55 and how many deaths have occured from the blood disorder. Granted that's very specific to Norway who kept deaths low. So from a risk analysis that would change for each country.

Damn....those numbers are on the high side :( Nine people dying because they took a vaccine. I totally get what people say about Covid itself posing a far bigger risk to the population, but vaccines killing people is very unfortunate and most unwelcome.

However, it is unclear why these deaths haven't shown up in the UK?
Perhaps because the UK is proceeding by age and using AZ for all ages most of the people vaccinated in the UK were older?

That's exactly the theory I've heard - they only give it older people. It seems women aged 30-60 are the ones most at risk from AZ.

I have a friend living in the UK and his dad is in hospital after the AZ vaccine. Said he might not pull through. Dad would be in 60/70s

Most of it is of their own making.

Interesting : the UK appears to have received more AZ vaccines than any other country in the world. It's a bit odd that we're not hearing lots of such stories, instead of having to hear it from Germany, Denmark, Norway etc.

I'd imagine they likely have similar amounts but media just aren't reporting it.

They went form having none when all the suspension kicked off to suddenly discovering 5 overnight when they investigations started around Europe.

I could understand the theory behind it being dangerous for older people given various aspects of a persons overall health tend to decline over time and there are many things which are more likely to kill an older person than a younger one.

What could make this vaccine more likely to cause blood clots in younger people than older people? What changes as people age which would make them less likely to develop blood clots from this?

It was suggested before that most (all?) the blood clot cases were in women, and that it may be linked to hormones. Surely this is more likely than age related with the risk reducing the older the person is. Maybe it will end up not being given to women between certain ages?

I don't think the only give it to older people, they have also been using it for health care staff, and a lot of these are woman.
But the proportions would still be diluted if most of the people received the vaccine were OAPs.

I had the flu jab a couple of months ago and the AZ jab two weeks ago, both had similar side affects, aching muscles, slight fever and headaches. But nothing dramatic.

The AZ jab absolutely destroyed me.

Onset after 6hrs of shivers and fever like nothing I have ever felt before. A couple of paracetamol meant it dissipated for a couple of hours, only to return with a vengeance as I got to bed.

I have never felt anything like it. I have had flu once in my life and that was as sick as I've ever been and that's a good 15 years ago now. This was on a whole other level, like the flu combined with every hangover of my thirties.

I was right as rain the next day and completely fine come lunchtime.

Arm was a bit sore for a few days after though.
