Pointless comparison really, if we had 50% of the population vaccinated I'd be looking for the same but we don't, it's 12%.

Let's hope we reach 50% at some point in our life :D

I'm glad to hear it. Great for them.

Me too, the power of science. Shows what we can open when suitable numbers are vaccinated.

    Ireland 12th April:

    - Travel anywhere within county
    - Home building to resume

    England & Wales 12th April:

    - All retail outlets will open
    - Pubs, restaurants and cafes
    - Gyms and other indoor leisure
    - Hairdressers and other personal care businesses
    - Self-contained holiday accommodation, like cottages (Easter holidays allowed in UK)
    - Outdoor attractions like zoos and theme parks
    - Libraries and community centres

Looking at the details emerging, we are only about 4 weeks behind

Maybe I'm in the minority but the 5km limit is the one thing that's affecting me and everyone I know the most. I'm a huge outdoor enthusiast and there's only so much exploring you can do close to home. All I want to do is go to the beach or go for a hike up a mountain on my own but the Gardai are targeting both for fines all the time.

If the 5K restriction is affecting you this much, you need to get out and about. You need to be more specific in your excuses to get you through the checkpoints, not just the usual I'm off to do the shopping etc.. I've yet to be questioned on where I work, what I do. Do you carry proof of your address with you..? If not, you can never be too far off your 5k.........
If the 5k restriction was helping, that would be a reason to stay put. But it's not, people who want to maintain their distance from others will continue to do so. And those that are casual about meetups, socializing will do that next door, nevermind 5,10 20k away on a hike.
I can't understand how Darragh O'Brien is getting a free ride with the eviction legislation he linked to the 5K restriction. He should never be in office again.

Complete and utter shambles. Worst country in the world with how this has been dealt with.

Absolutely, as soon as the passport office opens I'm off to Brazil.

If only from the beginning we vaccinated people at the desired pace. Shame, but what can we do.

    I laughed at that one

Good for all the intercounty players. Delighted for them. But why is that announced as a milestone for the general public?

"well I still can't open my business, but at least the Laois footballers can get out and train"

We don't know if its being announced as a milestone or is it simply the way Gav Reilly tweeted about an additional point. I definitely agree that it shouldn't be used as a milestone for the general public.

It was a previous mistake to remove the GAA's Elite status and its a simple rectify of that. It shouldn't even be announced and nobody should have issue with it. The main talking points today are the opening (or lack thereof) of society and travel limits. This is going to become a talking point when it never shouldve been an issue in the first place

Honestly it's hard to be disappointed, we knew this was all it was coming in April, and we knew that it would be a staggered relaxation.
I think they should give a carrot on the 5th of April (to be honest Martin was right, they said they would reconsider by then, not relax by then) and drop the 5k on that day, and possibly swap the GAA and outdoor sport thing (or just have all of them on the 19th).
Would be nice to see click and collect in the """roadmap"" starting beginning of May.

    England, not the UK....

I for one am shocked that the country 8 weeks ahead of us in vaccinations is 8 weeks ahead of us in reopening.....

How many weeks are they ahead on Construction?

You "shocked" that we are the only country in Europe that restricted Construction in 2021 or do you think that a normal, rational response from Govt/NPHET?

Really hard choices to make. Too dangerous in my opinion to allow two (fully vaccinated) people to meet inside...

I don't know , I manage u13s and I see some of the kids from team hanging around "bored" at the shops.in big groups . These are "good kids" , but I already know it's going to so difficult to get them to come back . I had hoped for the 5th but if that tweet is true , it might 3 weeks further on . Some of these kids won't ever come back to sport after a 4 month break which is so frustrating.

They need to come back to Earth and discuss measures that they can actually control. If they think people aren’t meeting with their vaccinated parents already they’re seriously out of touch.

Fauci was on national TV weeks ago saying it's perfectly fine to do that yet the Irish fools are saying no.

Boggles will be too busy living it up on the Copacabana, there will be no one there however, they will be all inside with the Covid.

In what ****ing world is GAA allowed back before golf and tennis. It has absolutely nothing to do with science or safety.

Optics all the way, which sums up how the entire mess is being handled.

Inter-County GAA (Mens) is of far more interest to more people then say League of Ireland soccer or InterPro Rugby.

It should never have lost it's "Elite" status but the GAA was cowed by the bad PR from County Final celebrations last Autumn so bowed down this year.

I absolutely hate playing this game they want us to play.

"My Mammy won't let me out so your Mammy shouldn't let you out either"

but just looking at it holistically the Women's League of Ireland went back playing last weekend while Inter County GAA players who can fill a stadium of 80k and have a million+ TV viewers for their finals aren't even allowed train for another 3 weeks!

Absolutely fuming today. That finishes me with politicians in this country. Spineless gits the lot of them, and I include the idiots in opposition in that. We've turned into one leaderless sh##hole.....

Even fully vaccinated people are not free from the government dictating what they can and cannot do. Disgusting overreach and it will continue as long as people accept it.

Yeah, I feel the frustration. Unfortunately physical health doesn't seems to be a priority. In my opinion kid sports should have been allowed to start at exactly the same time as school opening (if not before) as they are meeting in schools anyway, and you can't just tell a child to go have a run.
I would 100% agree with kid sports on the 5th, adult sports on the 19th/26th. Hopefully the ones from your team will all come back.

And again, so out of touch with the situation on the ground it is frightening. The announcement today is the bell for thousands and thousands of more people to give up on this whole charade. Not even trying to look for practical solutions, just a simplistic one size fits all template. The lack of logical joined up thinking makes me wonder what goes on in those meetings. All optics. GAA back before golf? Give me a break. and i fully believe GAA should be back, its the lack of rationale for closing golf that beggars belief

This is what happens when policy is dictated solely from a medical perspective. The world will never be fully safe enough to return to normal by purely medical metrics. The idea that they are protecting public health with all this is bollox anyway. They are simply shifting the issue and potentially escalating them from some scenarios be they cancer/mental health etc etc to Covid-19.

The damage this is doing will be felt for years to come.

What is emerging appears to be a time based step by step relaxation, exactly what the thread has been asking for. We will see when the full details emerge.

There are discussions to be had about how conservative (too conservative IMHO) it is, but in truth, no matter what was to emerge the thread would full of "spineless c**ts" comments etc etc.

the use of the word allow is hilarious, bless, such an inflated sense of power

Then we have NPHET lingering around about 'if we don't reach this and that then no reopenings' etc

I suppose we're not getting a roadmap detailing the whole reopening plans ?

So will there be a review the end of April ?

NPHET will push for stronger restrictions again no doubt

Especially if there is any hint of an increase in cases, they'll be banging the drum for full lockdowns again.

Keep an idea out for it.

I'll still be tuning in for the GAA mind.

Good post and to follow on that point. If they were in charge of road accidents they would just ban cars outright.

I'm with you there. I am dreaming of a walk on the beach which although not far away is not within my 5km so I'm not allowed visit it. I really thought it would be Tuesday (so much so Itook a day off) but now it looks like I have to wait until the 12th...

A sign of things to come?
When the whole country is vaccinated everything will still be shut going by that.
