People's expectations are on the ****ing floor, how could they be any lower?

The government are so out of touch it's actually funny at this stage.

Jeez sounds like the government will be caving even more to NPHET

Like you said expectations are low anyway

They were never likely to agree to any significant easing of restrictions and the leaks over the past few days are very limited easing of restrictions

Move from 5km to 10km, construction opening and 3 households meeting outdoor which people are doing anyway

I'd imagine close contacts are probably going.

A user earlier said that her symptomatic child and close contact went.

Neither should be going to a walk in centre as per HSE guidelines issued last week

Symptomatic are still supposed to go via GP, close contacts via contact tracing

    Lowered?
How in gods name can they be lowered? Construction and 5k being scrapped can’t be negotiable at this point surely

I'm finding it very frustrating that I can walk into an off licence and stock up on alcohol but I can't take my son into a shoe shop to get badly needed shoes for his supposed return to school in 2 weeks.

I think if they don't change the 5km then they run the real risk of losing majority of people if they haven't all ready.

    "202"?

    Today's figures show * 539 new cases * .

First rule of statistics. Don't take one days data in isolation.
    I don't i always focus on 7 or 14 day averages.

202 is weekly difference in case numbers and 27,823 more tests was carried out the last 7 days compared to the previous 7 days

It's as expected NPHET basically want nothing, gov want to give something

    https://twitter.com/KevDoyle_Indo/status/1376645360899256322?s=19

    Yup would say so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,100 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

    They'll change the 5km alright

Political suicide not to do that

I'm getting worried about them pushing construction reopening out to May

Mental. We're gonna be like this until next year if the government don't grow a pair.

All this talk of opening up, yet cases have not come down. We are trying to follow UK who have vaccinated millions.

So no change there then for most of the population.

People needing homes built to live in ?

Why is this being framed as what NPHET want vs what government wants? NPHET are there to advise government, not debate with them.

Not having a go at you at all, just find the commentary around this weird in general.

    I agree

They don't help themselves though with their recommendations.

Except they already know there isn't going to be a major easing

I'd imagine hospital numbers and ICU would have to be a key indicator going forward with vaccinations increasingly covering those likely to end up in hospital, don't know if we're at that point yet, but at some stage that will have to become a bigger indicator of the situation.

Other indicators could be general compliance with the rules, better to have a set of rule people are prepared to obey, than rules which are probably better at reducing spread but are widely ignored.

    See blowitups post above

Very little change in cases for much more testing

The more you test the more cases you'll find

    See the pop up centres

    NPHET don't want any changes

They have no care for the wellbeing of society or how hard the restrictions have been not the effort people have put in

4 months of not seeing friends, family, partners

If the government don't give small changes after 4 months of level 5 there's going to be a lot more people not adhering to the restrictions

The talk is on minor easing that was meant to get people outdoors more than indoors as the virus spreads the most in the latter. Opening up would be level 3 or lower and would require more of the population vaccinated.

Relax the 5km to countywide in counties with incidence rate of less than 100. Kildare, Offaly and Laois went to stay in your county last year at 80 per 100k.

Why Cork and Kerry deserve the glorified house arrest treatment with incidence rates less than 50 while Offaly is treated the same with incidence rate 10 times as much is beyond me

Really disappointing that NPHET and the Government aren't being taken on regarding regional discrepancies and why people in Cork and Kerry have to continually suffer due to clear outbreaks in Leinster.

Sorry in advance!! NPHET need to fuçk off!!! Who the fuçk is in charge????

Jesus some comedy show on CB live now

NPHET saying to the Ministers tonight 'if you don't do this then you wont get that'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,344 ✭✭✭CruelSummer

Christ Almighty, NPHET want another 6-8 weeks according to a journalist on Claire Byrne. Seriously?!!

The answer should be a firm no, change our approach and a more targeted approach.

Not even raising the km limit much by the sounds of it. Feck that.

Luckily I've had a good sup of wine. Just turned on Claire Byrne. WTAF??!!! Nothing really opening up not even construction!!!

    Very easy to lockdown

NPHET and the government had no issue with the LOKdown last year

Coming up with a plan for easing restrictions in regions or counties won't be countenanced as it would require work so they'll stick to blanket restrictions

    Schools to reopen on 12th.
Golf to reopen on 19th for those within 5km.
    Kids sports training from 26th.
5km for exercise to be extended to 10km from May 3rd.
    Construction reopening May 3rd.
Further stages from May 17th to be reviewed and announced w/b 10th.

Something like that I think. It is cautious, is a plan, which is the main thing people are demanding, and does show some light at the end of the tunnel, without risking the hard work done so far before the vaccine number really rise through April and May.

    10km in May 3rd - absolute joke.

No way will they not increase the 5km limit until May. They will actually do more damage to their 'targets' by doing that. Cases will rise out of sheer frustration.
