I'm not a politician nor have I any background in science, I can only speak on how it feels to live through this like the majority of us. It's miserable, going to the same news sites multiple times every day hoping for some good news or refreshing the pages on here looking for the same. I've said it a few times, I understand why we're not in a nightclub while they're rolling out the vaccine but the extent of lockdown rules have been too harsh to live through for too long. There's low risk options that surely wouldn't cause a sudden surge that we could be allowed? And, even though they claim differently, would anyone be at all surprised if we don't get what Britain will have in June til like the end of the year, or later, if there's a rise in cases again in Winter?

Maybe you should adjust your expectations? We’re in a better situation in NI but I don’t expect anything to be released until May. I now have that in my head and have made peace with it.

Still rolling out the Covid misery on Newstalk.

Guy on late 50’s, got Covid last Sunday, spent the week in bed.

No underlying conditions outside of being on constant medication for high blood pressure and smoker until recently.

Urging young people to take this seriously, reckons he didn’t take it seriously before but now he does.

No other nation around the globe has taken this as seriously as Irish citizens, what more do they want?

I really have tried. I'm doing walks and runs, trying to stay busy with passtimes and I fully accept that it would be completely wrong to pretend this isn't happening and open up the country.

At the same time I don't think it's wrong to feel like we're being done dirty by the government. I don't understand how other countries, at similar vaccination levels to us or worse, can give their citizens something and we get nothing. I'm genuinely not expecting raves on April 5th but something more than 5k to 10k equally isn't an unreasonable thing to want either I feel.

Yeah like why do we have to suffer through these 'Hard restrictions' while similar places can relax a lot of them

bad spineless leadership with the media refusing to ask the hard questions

We were told 'The vaccine was the end goal or near to it' and now we have them things are as restrictive as ever. Variants and supply issues are the excuses to hide behind

NPHET are in control and there king Dr Tony still has to return

Maybe because he’s on the outside now, Tony will see the waning public mood towards NPHET and think this is his time to shine and come back and rescue us all from this mess and recommend level 0 and at the same time save his own reputation from that thing we’re not allowed speak of?!!

    Nah, didn’t think so either

    Nah, didn’t think so either

worst of all the only person who stood up to him, varadker is skating on thin ice so any opposition he might've faced from the government when he takes his rightful place will be thin on the ground

So he definitely had underlying conditions (high blood pressure), was a smoker, probably overweight (but not obese), in one of the worst age brackets, and all he had to do was rest in bed for a week. I mean it's not great but If they're using it as a "scary" example then it's a terrible attempt.

Really hope they open up in the next 2 weeks and all you posters on here get exactly what you want. Then in about 6 weeks we will be closed again til xmas. Be careful what you wish for. What you should be asking is why is there still 500/600 morons day catching this because they cant do as they are told.

 nobody is asking for a free for all. People are just tired after 4+ months of Level 5 and it's very had to justify the restrictions we had to put in place 2 months ago with 10x the cases and 10x the hospitalizations, and no vaccines.
All people are asking is some safe relaxations (like outdoor meeting, no 5k limit) and some form of timeline/plan instead of a "we'll see in 6 weeks"

This is right , it’s exasperation

    Any more mentions of construction?

Tell these 'morons' (on our behalf) to stop getting tested when they feel the first bit of pain running down their arm or when they have a stuffy nose.

Tell them to isolate at home and they will quickly recover.

Really wish we werent living in a real life enactment of Disney Wall-e crossed with groundhog day.

I won't 'do as I'm told' no sorry, that's actually why we're still here, too many people blindly doing what they're told without questioning the reason, benefits and sense behind it.

Why would we have to lock down until Christmas when we're vaccinating people or did you pull that from a certain orifice? Also it's not people's fault for catching a highly contagious virus, it's not down to following the rules like a good boy especially when the b117 variant was shipped here by the government, schools are open and nphet are rooting down the back of the couch for cases so spare us the histrionics

Least we will have a good six weeks of it, out of interest are you saying that the 4600 people that died were morons for getting it too.

You are one to talk, you were on here earlier today bragging about how you broke the restrictions. As you were told then and I will say it again. It's morons like you that puts us in the position we are in.

So everyone who catches Covid is a moron? Let's hope you don't catch it then so.

I take it you are completely confining yourself to your room and not leaving for months until this is all over? Wouldn't want to be known as a moron now!

Well the 'moron' club is getting bigger every day.

I don't know a single person still following restrictions bar one or two very at risk folk who are desperately waiting to be vaccinated (nothing in sight for them unfortunately, too many being given to office and admin staff and would you believe even staff working from home - that's on top of the Jabs for the boys brigade).

    Whole thing is a farce!

Are you able to code humans to remove emotion and subjectivity? If the answer is no, calling people morons for breaking restrictions after 365 days of them is a statement so oblivious to reality it's not even funny.

Exactly what I have been doing, following instructions for the betterment of society. Haven't left my property since July 2020. It's been a wonderful bliss watching karma work its magic. Luckily the boards are not representative of the greater population. But if you wish to find eejits and morons this is the place for one to amuse themselves in the evening.

Heard the same thing today involving Pfizer staff.

Nothing less than travel within our own county will suffice tomorrow. If they announce 5k going to 10k they can shove it up in their h*le.

Don't want to make it a county thing but I'm in an area in the west with a number of surrounding counties also having less than 5 cases a day the last couple of weeks. Time to bring this farce to an end and rescue the country's economy. Let people take responsibility and those in a vulnerable position should have their vaccine very soon.
