Sure Ronan Glynn will be front and centre tomorrow anyway

Going to be interesting reading when the NPHET letter is published

Probably because it's just been uncovered that Ronan Glynn is actually a web-designer and had an uncle that worked as a porter in Beaumont.

A reminder of the madness that occurred last summer.

We never fully reopened, we never enabled our citizens to live with any sense of reprieve yet these were our figures in late June

The killer for me is that with all the talk of this year being an outdoor summer they're essentially saying this year will be even more restricted than last year even though we now have vaccines.

It's clear there is not surge or real increase . It actually looks like it's slowly decreasing

It will be a very interesting what happens now

I think there could be a bit of a panic and one or two things changed

Ahhh goway! We're just filling in the lull. Calm before the storm, like.

Great numbers today . Considering mother's day , Cheltenham and people being outdoors without masks on .

Have today's numbers been released yet? Can't seem to find them anywhere.

Despite people out and about and meeting outdoors , despite kids playing , despite packed parks , despite everything the numbers are dropping .
For gods sake let us out

The positive asymptomatic cases being caught at the walk in centres should be seen as a failure of the contact tracing system rather than a success of the centres

Our kind of contact tracing only works with a lower number of cases. With case numbers still in the several hundreds, the best it can do is find some additional close contact cases. But it's not an effective tool to control spread, which I thought was supposed to be the original idea of contact tracing.

UK facing a challenge vaccinating BAME groups.

Over-70s of black African heritage in England are 7.4 times more likely not to have received a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine compared with their white British counterparts, according to analysis by the Office for National Statistics.

I did most work from my laptop today in the outdoors sunshine, listening to music and only checking Twitter twice for the swabs number

Then, at around 4pm, I was tempted to switch from music to talk radio to see what they were saying today re: Covid. I stopped myself and kept listening to music

I'm glad I did and I feel all the better for it

It can be, but you need more invasive tracking measures and data capture which GDPR would not allow.

“There are also discussions underway about allowing people socialise outdoors”

Absolutely staggering given that i) people are doing it already ii) they’ve spent literally a year telling us how low risk it is to be outside and iii) people need to be given some indication that we are moving forward

I’m pretty incredulous at the tone-deafness of the government at this stage. Their lack of spine in the face of NPHET’s recommendations is truly unbelievable.

Let's see what the rest of the week brings ;)

We're gas on here - it's either "we're all fúcked!" or "It's over, open everything!" lol

Hopefully the Wednesday Bump is kind to us and hospital numbers drop further this week

The highest county (Offaly) now has an incidence rate FOURTEEN times that of the lowest (Kerry)

Kerry is going down too averaging 1 case per day in the past 5 days. 1 per day would give an incidence rate of 9 per 100,000, amongst the lowest in Europe. Not far off Zero Covid that.

Absolutely astonishing that this is still being treated as national issue. Kerry is approaching Level 1 restrictions territory, yet remains in Level 5+

Is anyone here saying open everything? I must have missed that. I see a lot of people saying open up a activities that are outside, and allow travel for outside activities

Cork still going down too, now at 40 per 100,000. As always though those cute hoors from over the western border are outdoing us.......

All joking aside, great figures down here. Varadker said in the Dail last week that no county was low enough for regional variations. Exactly what would be low enough you have to wonder?

All that having been said, even here in Cork I'd be happy with opening up outdoor activities for now. Indoor just not a runner. Only question is whether the likes of Offaly needed to stay where they are for now.

Not engaging with this process of fact checking your nonsense of taped up benches and overzealous police activity in the UK. So post all the links you want. Your desperation to present a certain narrative, irrespective of the reality, is really quite astonishing. Something more going on there I feel.....

It’s irrelevant now as there are no longer restrictions on movement in the UK. The ‘stay local’ mantra is guidance only. Indeed Matt Hancock said publicly today you can travel across the country to see friends and family this Easter, as he is.

It’s how it should be in Ireland. Get people outside so that they don’t go inside. Allow people to travel across the country to see family and friends outside who they might not have seen for months. Restricting people from doing this is evidence of such an incredible loss of proportionality by NPHET and the government

What a bizarre post. You can "feel" all you like. But you're incorrect - staggeringly so - it would appear.

And remember you asked for those references- I provided them. And now you oddly think that things didn't happen cos some things have changed in the UK today!

So I reckon just about everyone would agree that restrictions in the UK have changed today. Your previous argument was that the stay local thing was completely ignored up to this and wasn't policed. I simply showed how your opinion is incorrect!

    But moving ever on... :D

And as a special Easter bonus - not only were the restrictions previously policed - but even the Queen of Englands favourite grandson got investigated for being a very naughty boy very recently (the 26th of March precisely):pac:

Apparently he got away with it after claiming he had made the journey to Scotland for "business"

That he got away with it does not mean that the police didn't actually act to the letter of the law in investigating whether restrictions had been broken.

    https://7news.com.au/sunrise/on-the-show/queens-grandson-peter-phillips-quizzed-by-police-after-driving-during-lockdown-c-2461230

And you know what I'm damn sure when the time comes and we have a significant proportion of our own population vaccinated - we too shall Sally forth on business trips or what have you - to far off destinations
