The world's most expensive whiskey collectors' set has sold for $2m (€1.68m).

Has anyone ever tried any of the whiskey they sell?

I get a strong sense of a con going on with those guys.

    A long read about them.

Got some samples from a friend of GlenDronach 18 Year Old and Aberlour A'Bunadh. I've tried and enjoyed both before but I'm going to do a comparison with the intention of buying a bottle. Any opinions?

Not familiar with the GlenDronach and never tried it but I'm very happy with my Aberlour. Real exclusive look and taste to it. Have shared a few drops with some friends for different occasions and it's been a hit every time.

I'm rationing my bottle. I really do like it. I wonder if the non age statement replacement is remotely the same. If it is, I'd definitely get it when it runs out.

Remotely the same yes, but there's more changes than just the same inputs with NAS.
Previously it was all bourbon barrels, now there's a mix of bourbon, virgin oak, sherry and PX.
Much more complex blend and includes some 'double digit' aged whiskey in there.
Now bottled at 43% versus 40%.

    * There was a very good Potstilled podcast with John Cashman ex of Kilbeggan which touched on it:

Any inside information on the new Method and Madness that they’ve been advertising?

Dark Silkie Cask Strength on sale this morning at 10am for anyone interested. 210 bottles at 80 euro a bottle. It'll probably sell out fairly quick.

Bottle 38/210 arrived at my front door this evening. Just trying to decide when to open it now!

    Is it marked Batch 2?

    Batch 1/21.

Looks like last year's batch was marked 1/20, going by the photos on Twitter.

Keep us posted - enjoyed the series to date, well with the exception of the exceptionally pricey

For any Púca fans, or anyone who missed it last time out, it's back in Aldi either tomorrow or next week, depending on which bit of the press release is correct.

    On sale now.

    Is that label different?

It is I think... got a couple of bottles last time around and I definitely think it was different
At the price point it's a fantastic whiskey & I'll definitely pick up a few more bottles Tomo or Thurs

I didn't manage to grab it the last time as I was in the middle of my K8 swoon phase.

GlenDronach - All day, every day!! - But it's at least twice the price so in theory should be better.

They have some exceptional single casks too, the 15 yo revival is my favorite of the standard releases.

Aberlour A'Bunadh is a great whisky too - at it's price point there is not a lot that will beat it for the Sherry Bomb style.

I bought a Lambay small batch blend for 29 euro in Nolan's. I was going to give it to someone as a gift, but on the off chance I reneged on that and kept it...

...Where does the whiskey come from? Bushmills?

You should have bought two, that's the cheapest price for it in Dublin I think!

Has a lovely, long finish to it.

    According to this:
A small batch sourced blend – West Cork Distillers – of malt & grain Irish whiskeys triple distilled, matured in ex-bourbon barrels & finished in cognac casks.

I got one as a gift from a client at Christmas and bought a second for 30 in my local shop. It's a nice sipper tbh and for that price it's hard beaten.

Opened the Redbreast 10 last night. Ticks all the Redbreast boxes. If you like Lustau (I do) you'll love it. Plenty of sherry of course. Worth trying neat as it's refined enough. Small drop of water opens it up nicely but needs very little.

Has anybody done one of the Irish whiskey society tastings? I'm signed up for Thursday, but also have the Teeling one on.

Do IWS record the sessions and put them online afterwards?

They do them through YouTube but the video goes private then so you can't rewatch them.

Drumshambo €50 in Tesco. I'd be tempted but I've just bought an inaugural release from O'Briens.

I still have a bottle of this since last year, looking forward to trying it !

I liked the basic one, could be worth a punt. Different to the Inaugural at least.

Saw 3 swallows in the local tesco there for 40 or 50 but herself gave me the not a chance look

It's €40 at the moment in Tesco, but occasionally pops up for €30 though flies off shelves at that price.
