I worked for David Raethorne for seven years, before he got in to distilling. Visionary would not have described that firm anyway!

Have you or anybody else tried their stuff? Read they are aging stock from Cooley and Drumshanbo.

The FIL got me the Annacoona for Christmas.

Have had all three as part of their tasting pack before and was very impressed, with the Annacoona especially. But it was followed by a stout tasting with White Hag so the memories are hazy.

I definitely commented on here at the time back in November.

Had brief tastes of the Annacoona and the Keshcorran. I thought they were good enough without being remarkable, with the Annacoona the better of the two.

The Keshcorran is finished in Hungarian Tokaji casks. The owner (that guy David mentioned earlier probably) told me that he was at a party that the Hungarian ambassador was at, and when they got talking the ambassador suggested he had links that could help provide these casks. That’s how it came about he said. (I didn’t confirm if Fererro Rocher were served at the party)

Not yet. I'd say it'll be well into the year before it's touched.

When I get a new bottle of spirits, the first thing I do is open it and taste it - even if it's the morning!
I don't understand waiting. I mean, if you are planning on opening it, just open it!

I admire their restraint though :pac:

Malt Review have given the Redbreast 10 Year Old 8/10 which is a good review for them. Interesting comparison at the link below between the 1960s bottling and the 2021 version.

    https://malt-review.com/2021/03/17/redbreast-10-2021-redbreast-10-1960s/

Redbreast 10 Year Old 59.1% Cask Strength – review

Colour: Vibrant amber with orange hues, noticeably viscous in the glass.

On the nose: It opens distinctly pot still, spice-driven, very little alcohol with a cinnamon-dusted candied apple bite going on. There are intense wood notes, like burning a cedar board for your smoked old fashioned, roasted walnuts before turning quite sweet. The sherry influence is there but quite relaxed, a little hint of leather among the wood notes, with a touch of berries and warm butter-soaked crumble.

In the mouth: Upfront with dark dried & berry fruits with a touch of clawing tannin. The oak spice follows through with a rounded nutty, toasted almond character. The sweeter notes intensify within the aromatics, figs, vanilla & chocolate all flow throughout. The back palate delivers tobacco and a hint of menthol with anise. The texture is rounded & developed delivery both fruits & more herbaceous notes like strawberry leaves. The finish is long, spiceful, almost gregariously warming.

    Score: 8/10

I used to do that till I ended up with 20+ open bottles. I need to drink them quicker or buy them slower.

I sometimes wonder if the bottle size for these sipping whiskies is too large.
Think a half bottle or 500ml size might sell in larger volumes and ppl would take a punt on them at lower price.
The sample size 5cl is a bit small.
But hard to break ranks with standard bottle size for shelf space etc

Another article from Malt Review this time about Waterford Whisky where they give a fairly scathing overview of a few of the first releases.

Bunnahabhain do a 200ml bottle of a number of their releases. A few other Scottish Distilleries do the same or 350ml. Its a good way of getting a proper feel for the whiskey as like you say 50ml doesn't always cut it.

I took a notion the past couple of days about wanting to try some of the Irish distillers I haven't had a go at. Maybe I can break my thing of believing I am not that into Irish whisky.

Went onto Dick Mack's and ordered samples of Dingle single malt, Dingle pot still, Drumshambo Inaugural release, one of the Waterfords and a few grain whiskies I wanted to try as well.

    Ratheadon 1.1 gets 4/10?
We must have v different palates.
Was v impressed with that one.

The world's most expensive whiskey collectors' set has sold for $2m (€1.68m).

The highly anticipated 'The Emerald Isle Collection' by The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. in Dublin, in partnership with Fabergé is the oldest and rarest triple-distilled Irish single malt in the world. It includes a seven-piece custom-made whiskey set that celebrates the 'Seven Wonders of Ireland'.

Except so many people get irrationality irate over bottle sizes that veer from the perceived norm and are convinced that they are being ripped off no matter what the price per ml.

Grabbed a couple of bottles of West Cork cask strength.

Really liking it. So much flavour. I’m getting a lot of citrus on the nose. Big mouthfeel and a lovely linger due to the abv.

To O'Briens credit, there was no problem at all, and they sent out the box for it very quickly.

A whiskey named after Bud Spencer. They do a peated version too. Take my money now!

BUD SPENCER WHISKY - THE LEGEND
In his films, our hero Bud Spencer fights for law and justice around the world. Fearless and unconventional, he paralyzes all scoundrels and criminals. He likes to have a whisky or two. We think he's earned it.

At St. Kilian Distillers we create absolute premium whiskies for a global audience. For our "Bud Spencer - The Legend" we have combined noble bourbon casks from the USA with Italian Amarone red wine casks. Of course in proven St. Kilian "Made in Germany" top quality.

Cheers - we toast with you to Bud Spencer - the legend

The novelty value alone of having a German single malt on my shelf would tempt me to shell out €50.

For any Púca fans, or anyone who missed it last time out, it's back in Aldi either tomorrow or next week, depending on which bit of the press release is correct.
