It's not free shipping most of the time, it just seems that way. Tonight, I was about to order a Playstation game. Price was €52 with my uk address and €58 with my irish address. I'm a prime customer.

That makes no sense. I've never seen a price increase, other than the VAT difference. The free shipping is free.

The exception being when you buy from a seller that isn't fulfilled by Amazon, then you pay their shipping fee.

If you need proof, I can send screenshots. Or you can switch the delivery address between a UK and Irish address on your prime account and the product price increase while delivery remains "free".

I'd like to see the item. I've looked at PS games at 54.99 to UK and 56.50 to Ireland. The small difference being Irish VAT and nothing else. Free delivery is Free delivery, bar a vat charge on the discounted delivery (which apples for each address).

    £49.67 incl. 20% UK VAT

    £41.39 excl. UK VAT

    £50.08 incl. 21% Irish VAT

I don't see the issue here. There's just a £0.41 difference because of the 1% difference in the Irish and UK VAT rates.

Apart from the VAT change, removing UK VAT and adding Irish VAT, as I pointed out already, the price does not change. You've stated that the price changes by €6, but I've checked and it changes by 41p. And yes, it was the same before Brexit as Amazon always changed the VAT to Irish when you use an Irish address.

I'd like to see the screenshots of your €6 price difference, because it seems it's just you.

There you go. First is using addresspal in uk. Same price for old parcel motel NI address. Second one is republic of ireland. The final price for ROI was about €58 after the vat changes. Ended up downloading the game for €25 from sony.

@...Ghost... Different sellers on your screenshots?

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Jedi-Fallen-Order/dp/B07QRC5PR7/

Wonder what would be the price on Checkout?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 477 ✭✭stronglikebull

Yep, two different sellers, hence different prices.

Anyway, Amazon don't charge different prices to Ireland, except for the VAT change, and Prime delivery to here is still free. If the product price is less than €22, you also get it 20% cheaper as they deduct the UK VAT and no Irish VAT is due at all.

I hadn't noticed the sellers changed when the address was changed. Odd, because both deliver to roi.

I've seen it before when you change something, that it selects a different seller for the same product. Even following the link to an item on your wishlist oculd bring you to a different seller than when you added it.

If you change your address at the checkout stage then it shouldn't change that, and you'll see only the VAT difference there.

I've had parcels delivered to AddressPal over 3 weeks ago and no notification or anything from them (other than the confirmation from my courier that it was delivered to AddPal).

Did you update your details on the addresspal website, you need to add a card now for prepayment of any charges due.. all good will now be delivered to your door, and have to be paid for upfront.

I suspect that non- Amazon package traffic between UK and Irl has been reduced to a trickle. I used to be an eager buyer of stuff off eBay UK, but can't get stuff delivered at the moment. The missus is thrilled!!!

It was just an item from adverts.ie that a seller was sending me from galway to dublin. Took about 6 days which is very slow considering I previously got stuff via newtownabbey with 24 hours of it checking in there.

Me too. Once I removed my British parcel motel address from eBay and Amazon it massively reduced the amount of stuff available, and then half of that still isn’t deliverable to rep of Ireland. eBay is pretty much useless these days. Why doesn’t their global shipping come to Ireland???
I’m amazed parcel motel are still in business.

My stuff arrived there on 10th Feb, confirmation from courier but nothing from AP. I have a card registered and there is sufficient money on it.

Actually went looking myself & found this deliverme.ie crowd who take in parcels & will courier them down south or hold for collection - €22 a parcel is a bit steep but have mailed them for clarification if they're still operating as normal as would be worth it to me

I found these too which would be ideal if they were based in Newry.

This might be even better only €3 for each delivery and could collect from their Belfast shop, open on a Saturday too.

I suppose if demand increased they would open a place in Newry. Some stuff I buy is quite expensive in Ireland so well worth a trip to Belfast

Anything coming into the North from the UK has to be declared as for NI only, if its for a republic address they will have to do Customs Clearance etc. Back to square one.

Not if you collect in person the item from their shop in Belfast?

AP are pathetically slow at the moment, I have a delivery from the UK virtual address that they received on Feb 12th, as of today there is no further update to what has happened to it.

Day 16 and no word from AP. Hoping to hear someday that it is held up in Dover.

I ordered supplements from the US last Friday and they arrived yesterday, I ordered some from UK almost a month ago, and still no sign.

Has anyone had any success resolving an issue with Parcel motel? I sent a package 2 weeks ago and the person I sent it to hasn't received it.

Parcel motel have told me they left it on the porch but it looks like they left it at the wrong address and the package has now disappeared.

They seem completely uninterested in helping me resolve the issue.

    How so?

The item that would be delivered to parcel motel is for NI only as far as incoming customs should be concerned.

Where it goes after is no different than if a NI resident bought something and sold it 6 months later to someone in the south

As long as there's no VAT or duties due they will. Amazon deliveries will be fine for example.

Amazon prime will deliver to Ireland, thank you Jeff Bezos. Is the Vat already deducted at source ?

Are you an Amazon Prime member?

Yes - if there are no charges to be paid. Eg. Amazon.
    Just takes longer.

Got a response from PM . They will accept UK deliveries but the couriers will apply their own Customs and Vat duties. That's fine in theory but are they all set up to apply online charges.?

Unless they can come up with a serious offering, PM are of little use any more.

been using pm locker courier service a bit lately for sending stuff around Ireland and it has varied from 1 day from Dublin to Cavan to 7 days Dublin to Nenagh. On the latter occasion the receiver never even got a notification that the item was stored. They just don't seem to give a fcuk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,477 ✭✭✭10-10-20

Apparently they cant accept delivery outside of Monday to Friday 9 to 6 now.

This is now UPS that we're talking about, and they can't even open their doors to receive products on a weekend? Complete sham.
And no offer of a refund on the credit tied-up in their accounts either?
I know we could all spot a failing business-model back in 2020, but attaching a ventilator to a dead donkey doesn't mean it can still be used for pony-rides.

I've been using the credit on mine and my wife's account for a few things I've sold on adverts. If they were a bit quicker with their delivery times they'd be a viable competitor to an post and other couriers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 187 ✭✭magoo84

It's hard to have any sympathy with PM when you hear the horror stories on here and on their social media channels. As long as nothing went wrong, it was a handy way to speed up Amazon deliveries and take away the hassle of nobody being home to receive a parcel. The problem with them is that when something does go wrong, they're almost impossible to contact, and they give off a vibe of not giving a solitary f**k. Even worse is that once it gets to Parcel Motel, the retailer has fulfilled their side of the sales contract, so they're off the hook.

I spent three weeks last summer trying to track down an Amazon parcel that went missing in their depot, and at the end of it they just shrugged their shoulders and said "We think the parcel was open when it arrived, talk to Amazon." Amazon, to their credit, did refund me which I wasn't expecting and to be honest thought was a bit unfair on them, although they're not exactly short of cash either :) It's one of the reasons that Amazon will wipe out a huge amount of Irish retailers if the proposed fulfilment centre opens here. We simply don't have the culture of customer service in this country to compete. Between the closure of their UK virtual address, and the absolute gouge of a price hike they imposed on customers before last Christmas, I'll say good riddance to them.

Can you use parcel motel to receive international post to, let’s say USA but could be other countries. For example a gift or letter from someone, as opposed to an online purchase? Obviously it will take longer and be more expensive but I presume you can use parcel model address for that purpose. The international sender pays the shipping / postage to your PM address here, and you just pay the parcel motel charge here?

Yes some people use parcel motel if they know they won't be around to receive the package and collect at their own convenience. You pay to receive, yes.

If there were charges to be paid then they wont accept it.

They expect that the courier will have applied Customs and Vat and if so, there should be no problem. I wish they would sort their act out Maybe a delivery service from France or the Netherlands would work ? I find the locker system very handy as I'm not always at home but they sure as hell need to improve their customer relations and IT systems.

Update on my delivery, they sent me an email saying they cannot deliver beer. There is nothing in their T&Cs saying they can't deliver beer, they even call out increased import duty for alcohol and cigarettes on their T&C.

The box has the brewery name on it and they took possession knowing they could not forward, sellers courier will not provide a return label. AP won't let my mate collect it for me, it has to be a courier.

I have tried to arrange a courier but I need a phone number and contact name for addresspal, they will not provide it and keep saying I need to organise a courier.

This is going on since the 9th February when they took collection of it, got an email on 17th March to say it is a prohibited item and they cannot deliver it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69,538 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Their T&Cs say they don't carry liquids. You can buy glasses and other merch from breweries, so they had no way of knowing from a box name - nor realistically were they there to check each box at a time they could refuse delivery.

Additionally, private import of alcohol by postal services is not even legal - Revenue have only recently changed to allowing people to pay in most circumstances; it was straight destruction until recently. You need a license to import alcohol and Revenue letting people without one is unlikely to last.
