Notice on https://covid19.shanehastings.eu/api/swabs/ that swab data isn't available currently.

    Hmmm strange.

    No swab count today?

All the data has been hidden or temporarily removed. Not sure why unless they're having problems updating today. Spreadsheet download still works but no new info there

    Hub data also empty

    It's an important day!

Wonder are they trying to manipulate the figures...

I reckon Tony Holohan is on the comeback trail and they want to hype it up as much as possible.

Want to have over 1000 positive cases on his first day back to get the punters back interested.

Youve been locked up for too long my friend

The lad who uploads the daily swab figures is standing in his kitchen making a cup of tea, unaware that he forgot to his save and has sent boards.ie in to meltdown

If one forsakes a diet or a study programme -the consequences apply to that person alone.
If one contravenes the virus restrictions -there can be consequences not only for the individual but for others as well -there's a crucial social dimension involved.

That's fine but your additional point isn't going to significantly (if at all) improve someones willingness to comply 12 months into this thing so it's irrelevant. People are fed up and my analogies were just to highlight that. I get that the fall-out of ones non-compliance are different with a virus to my analogies but the psychological element is what I was trying to show.

People might have complied a little bit longer a few months ago with good philanthropic intentions but that good-will has diminished now because there's no end in sight.

Shortly after 3pm the hub looked like it was being refreshed with today's numbers but they've either messed up the entry or are having tech issues as everything looks to have reset to 0

Why didn't your God banish this virus for all in one fell swoop?

agreed but if the person is two steps away from a high ladder and a short rope, the personal decision is in their best interests.. one year on, people need to stop assuming everyone is heading the park for cans , five aside and a grope..

I remember reading a book years ago and it said something along the lines that if a person has no social/human contact for 30 days, then the brain begins to change. This related to a person found on a desert Island, I'll try dig it out.
Once more the same WHO we follow now, told us isolation is now a health hazard. or read the British medical journal even.

This Ronan Glynn remark smacks of the Teacher stamping your report card eh..
"Could do better"..FFS advisors advisors all around and not a drop to drink!!

Dr Glynn said officials are asking people to “do a little bit more than you’ve been doing over the past week or two” to suppress COVID-19.

I actually have empathy for Glynn, he's doing what he's supposed to be doing, giving advice which will save as many individuals as possible. It's not their job to analyze the economic and social aspects of this stuff and they don't make decisions on restrictions or lockdowns.

The Government are hiding behind NPHET like scared little rats, it's embarrassing and actually makes me ashamed to be Irish right now. They defer all responsibility to them in their media appearances while they make a balls of everything. They really are a bunch of pathetic bottom-feeders.

What's striking is why we're getting those remarks publicly from a public servant rather than our minister for health. I get where you're coming from with your reaction to that but it's not Ronan Glynn's job to encourage or lecture the public so why is the spotlight on him to begin with?

It feels like FF/FG are deliberately hiding behind the couch on all this and hoping the public take their frustration out on the medical experts instead.

Well now he's a big boy getting an even bigger cash flow now but I'll ask you this, a corner man stays in the corner and gives advice on startegy and method..they don't dismiss the fighter, get in the ring and then stay in the ring... Trust me, the well chosen Clark Kent profile doesn't fool me for a second..he's liking being up there as much as anyone. They all are. This is a career defining opportunity for all involved..many will enrich themselves long after it's evolved into whatever it will be next..Not when its over...there will be no back to normal now.

Sorry folks, just need to rant:

I just received an email from my property agent( I rent ) Back around August she wanted me to get a cleaner in to do a deep clean of the apartment. I was annoyed, not about spending the money, but during a pandemic introducing a person who has been in other households into my safe place.

Got another email just now asking am I getting a cleaner again because "in these times its so important to keep the place clean and tidy due to the virus".

Which part of "You cannot have visitors to your home" does she not understand? I live alone so, the cleaner is the threat. I could be knee deep in my own filth and be at zero risk of getting Covid, but bringing someone into the house could introduce the virus.

We're a year into this now and people still don't get it. Makes me furious.

I don't necessarily disagree but the gaslighting is a bit much. We haven't heard from Donnelly, the egotistical reprobate or Martin, the bumbling idiot in weeks yet Glynn is speaking to us twice/three times a week.

    They're hiding in the corner.

Glynn is qualified to make them, Donnelly is not. The government will not go against NPHET after Christmas. They in turn, need to bear mind how we are responding to the restrictions. Some outside stuff and construction will happen and we will get an 8, 10 or 20km limit depending on who's leaking!

So would the government be the boxer in this analogy? Finding it hard to see to be honest. Very uninspiring they are.

The department of health is the government and they are being asked to take the flak. Much better politically.

I saw something today that I hadn't noticed had all but disappeared over the last 12 months. Grandparents in a playground with their grandchild (or possibly child they kidnapped; the point is still the same). I'm gonna presume it's because they're vaccinated and now feel the confidence to be around people again. A small but nice thing to see.

Dr Máirín Ryan, HIQA’s Deputy CEO and Director of Health Technology Assessment, said: “Ireland took a robust approach following the increase in cases in December 2020. Comparing Ireland to other countries in the review, hospitalisations per million population were lower only in Denmark and the Netherlands. Similarly, the numbers in ICU per million population were lower only in Denmark and the UK. Our strategy has been successful to date in limiting the spread of COVID-19 in Ireland but a further reduction in the burden of COVID-19 on our healthcare system will be necessary if the system is to deal with the waiting lists for non-COVID-19 care.”

They're admitting now that the current restrictions are to shield Ireland's abysmal Hospital capacity. The Government that have failed to address this over the last 5 years are now keeping us locked down longer than necessary to cover their errors and then they blame the public repeatedly with support from the majority of said public.

We are living in an episode of Black Mirror.

Qualified to make the assessment but it's not his job or responsibility to deliver them to the public. I doubt he wants to either. Public speaking and measuring and managing the mood of the nation is a huge burden to endure on top of his already challenging medical role. The public even dissect his choice of words as if he was the man in charge without even considering the problem of that scenario.

Donnelly is completely asleep at the wheel and I have huge admiration for Glynn even attempting to step up and show some leadership which is desperately lacking in this country at the moment.

He's interviewed frequently but says nothing other than "we'll review it at the cabinet meeting in April". That's not leadership.
