Apt quote that, because that is exactly whats going to happen if people just go feck that and do what they want and well be back up in the thousands again.

    Shin

And who cares at this stage, if cases go high enough people will do what they did in January and ease of for a month or 6 weeks until cases fall.

The government need a strategy that allows people mix a bit, explain the strategy and see how things go.

Instead of people meeting illegally indoors, better have them meet at a picnic bench outside a coffee shop etc.

Some schools have incredible ventilation though, the ones in Cork, Kerry, Kilkenny, Mayo, Clare, Cavan, Wicklow, Leitrim, Sligo etc etc are actually all out in an open field with huge air sucking pumps hovering over every child. The likes of Dublin and Donegal must be teaching in airtight caves underground. It's unlikely to be anything else right?

its lovely that you think that but as someone who works in a large school in one of those counties, its far from the reality

    769 new cases, 2 deaths.

Not unexpected. Was an under reporting of around 200+ in the last few days

    To follow up on this

In the 7 days from 14th March to 20th March inclusive there were 3,812 positive swabs but only 3,479 confirmed cases.

Fair bit to get through today. Swab data tomorrow should confirm as such

9% increase week on week - Dr Henry

The only change is the schools are back.

Is there any indication where today's numbers are coming from? Is it a Paddy's Day bump?

People only have a certain amount of philanthropy in them before that becomes secondary to their own wellbeing and livelyhood. That's all it is. We don't have an endless supply of humanitarian good-will.

This is true. And those with the least humanitarian spirit in them are the ones coming to the fore now with shameless ignoring of the restriction, proclaiming it as a badge of honour, and urging other to behave as poorly.

Getting angry because people won't adhere to these endless restrictions won't do anything but keep at it.

You can't say people won't adhere, when yourself is angry. As it seems most people do follow. Problem is that thing is highly contagious, so even relatively small numbers can screw it for everyone. And I suspect those small numbers keep being sooooo fùcking loud about their suffering, cuz you know freedom etc.

    Thank you.
    Precisely.

Firstly this is probably for the schools thread, secondly if you think that's going to happen (having every child repeat the school year) your on a different planet, which alot of posts would suggest you are.

I think time for local regional lockdown, low case number counties should be allowed open up, Dublin high stay level 5 others down to level 2 or 3 depending on case numbers any daily cases over 40 or 50 that county level 4 or 5

I think you are right, Leitrim right beside Donegal has consistently nearly 0 cases. Sligo doing well to. How must they feel with Donegal doing so bad.

So we agree that it's true. Now how in the name of God can you sit there and think that longer and harsher restrictions will restore the philanthropy reserves of those not adhering and causing case spikes? I literally have no idea how to even follow your line of thought.

    Precisely.

It strikes me as the sort of idea dreamt up by a person who missed quite a bit of school themselves.

And to add; certain Dublin's LEAs need to be called out specifically in Dublin

With Paddys and Cheltenham, along with increasing non compliance numbers will go up sooner than down I believe.

Does anyone have a link that shows how many people there are in the over 70’s over 60’s and vulnerable groups, etc.
Be interested to see how many people are in these groups and how long it will take to vaccinate them.
Hopefully once the above groups are vaccinated we might see restrictions eased.

That figure is 1.33 million people in all those groups and high risk settings.

The percentage of people following is dropping by the day, go outside and see for yourself. It's not a small subset of selfish individuals, people all over the country are sick and tired of this shambolic management by our leaders.

The only way people will tolerate lockdown is if cases went over 6k a day

We had over 6k a day and the hospitals were able to cope

So asking for tighter restrictions when we are at an average of 500 a day is ridiculous and will just piss people off more

Numbers are rising because people are having more contacts, and you think the answer is to relax restrictions so that people can have more contacts?

It doesn't compute. We're past risk reduction measures now (e.g. encouraging more outdoor activities) because numbers are rising - we should have done that weeks ago, but at the time people were shouting at everyone outside their houses to "stay at home", and people were cheering on the Guards for turning back hikers going for a walk on a mountain.

We seem to swing between lockdown mania and "open the floodgates".

Numbers are rising because of the schools.

Its a vicious circle, a mini repeat of Christmas, may as well as go all out for the next weeks and enjoy ourselves because once we hit 5000 cases a day we will all realise we need to pull it in again.

    Rinse and repeat.

Jeeze, easy knowing you haven't been working in a hospital for the past three months or haven't had treatment halted. I'd love to see how you would have coped.

    Unbelievable attitude.

Do you think if restrictions are extended those people will suddenly comply?

And gathering indoors, because the much safer option of gathering outdoors is forbidden and enforced by the stazi.
