How many showed up at the protests?

I spent most of St Patricks Day working in and around the City Centre both North and South sides.

Civil Disobedience was the most apparent and widespread I have ever seen it to date.

Quite literally THOUSANDS of people, congregating in both large & small groups anywhere there was a patch of grass or park bench available.

Plenty of open-air drinking going on,with oddly enough, little visible sign of the usual Irish messiness.

Many of those out & about were foreign, from those I interacted with,Brazillian,Spanish and Italian groups appear to have had several pre-planned meeting points on the Southside particularly.

Rathmines & Rathgar well populated, with a very good Guitarist busking outside the Church opposite the 108 Pub,to the appreciation of many folks enjoying the day in the Church frontage.

Fairview park was the same, with Gardai sitting in their squad cars at a safe distance observing, perhaps to facilitate some form of recording to allow for Fixed Penalty Notice issuing after the event.

This sort of enforcement is about the only option left for them now,as the sheer scale of disobedience on view today essentially rendered the Authorities "Public Health Advice" totally null & void.

All of these people may well be dead within 14 days, with their elderly grandparents almost certainly despatched due to this mass decision of Humans to actually openly practice Humanity, even after being laden down with guilt and remonstrated at almost non-stop for 12 months.

Today's Garda overtime bill alone must run to the Millions, which to some dowdy accountant buried deep within the Dept of Finance, cannot be tolerated.

A few more fine days, particularly at weekends or Public Holidays, will present NPHET/Government with some serious questions and decisions to be made which will run counter to all of their utterances up to this.

All told,St Patrick's Day 2021 will be remembered as the day when peaceful Public Disobedience easily triumphed over unquestioning adherence to "Expert Advice".

    Roll on Easter...:)

So everyone who lives within 5km of the centre of Dublin who headed out and about today at some stage were engaged in civil disobedience?

So all hospitals are running at around 80% bar two that are less, you do realise we run at 100% here every winter. I'm not saying it's all rosy but how the hell are they not at 150% capacity by now.

You do know the difference between the stated "Covid-19 Units running at 80% capacity or above as detailed in the article and "hospitals" or do I really have to spell it out in words of one syllable or less?

    Got it in one.

Large groups,in most cases enjoying prolonged time in the fresh open air sunlight, also, just to add icing to the cake, largely barefaced with very few wearing facecoverings. (Oddly enough, those I observed in and around Fairview Park were more Facecover compliant than their Southside compatriots )

Wow thats a fantastic example of a strawman argument. While you probably both have a point, you just made yourself look silly with this post.

Is it? Really? So some bloke on the Internet saw people exercising between "between the park and the green area in front of the marina" and claimed that he knew that they were all effectively breaking restrictions?

How the fek does that bear any semblance to actual reality? Did he interview them and canvas everyone's address bearing in mind GDPR Regulations or is that just making stuff up?

I'd reckon more likley that's yourself "made yourself look silly with (that) post"

Did you actually read the article, the are requesting icu space in public hospitals. What difference does it make, do you not expect for a country with no restrictions and such a high population density that their covid units should be higher than 80%. Why you replying like a ****en dick.

The vast majority of the THOUSANDS of people out and about today, did so in the FULL knowledge of the "Recommendations" and even the doom laden scolds which recieved Significant Publicity across ALL State Media outlets.

Thos who stuck to their self-protectant magic 5Km walk/run around their neighbourhood, were,I'm sure, feeling content and pleased that they were keeping the faith, but the sheer scale of the numbers across the City point in a different direction...whether one can recognise that or not ;)

How dare they live their lives without fear. Do they not realise how many grannies they are murdering going around with their bare faces and lack of fear? Did they not see the MASSIVE pile of dead bodies across the road from Fairview Park?

Everything hunky dory in Brazil so. It’s not like Covid deaths have almost doubled in less than a month and are running at near 2x the previous peak

Quite likely, its certainly different to this time last year.

These two posters seem to be determined to insist that you said ALL and that the people you saw were 'legally exercising' - they should be ashamed of their posts.

I quote from the article ~
Covid-19 units in all but two of Brazil's 27 states are at or above 80% capacity,

So NO that's not "Hospitals" running at 80% capacity as was claimed by YOURSELF - what the article does state is that "Covid-19 units in all but two of Brazil's 27 states are at or above 80% capacity"

How much more simple does that need to be?

Why are you referring to others as a "****en dick"?

    .

I did'nt get into Stephens Green today, but from the looks of it,both residents & visitors alike preferred to embrace normality, but then again these people may have been locked up for the past 12 months and thus unaware of the risk they are taking ?

You seem to have a belief that the only reason one is permitted to venture outside is for a 5 km run? And that those bending the rules somewhat mildly by stopping in a park and chatting to friends for a short time for example are somehow engaged in an all out rebellion against restrictions?

I am well aware what I am saying thank you, and the equating of people choosing to get out and about on a sunny paddy’s day with a widespread rejection of public health measures is bizarre.

The attempt at backseat modding is what is more shameful

I bolded the part you made up.

Cant you just accept that a lot of people were out, many of whom are fed up of the rules and decided to ignore them. Some outside following the rules too.

Why is this so hard for you? Its not black or white and the op isn't suggesting it is.

I stated covid units in the post you quoted. Do you expect these covid units not the running at over 80% by now. Hang on are you trying to claim things are shocking in Brazil or are not as bad as it seems.

Who said it was hunky dory, answer the question honestly. How can a country with no restrictions and a population density like Brazils, healthcare system function without collapsing and we can't even go for a haircut without being told our healthsystem will collapse.

It's not so much to do with belief's ....It's more basic than that,it's about listening to conversations, noticing the movements, the laughter, the ice-cream cones, the close PHYSICAL contacts and much else we've evidently forgotten.

It's about being amongst this large scale expression of self confidence and perhaps even the beginnings of moving on from the imposed wisdom of the Men in Suits.

I would imagine we will be on the recieving end of a broadside from the L.E. NPHET very soon, admonishing those who today, demonstrated their lack of appreciation of the various good Doctor's prescriptions...and proposing more rigourous treatment to lance this Freedom boil !

Rebellion....only if you say so ?

You may need to review the definition of civil disobedience so. It’s not having takeaway moccachinos with Saoirse and Fiachra by the canal.

What would you judge civil disobedience to be at this time?
