It's now increasingly likely there won't be any relaxation of restrictions on April 5th.

St Patrick's Day will be blamed, and the government are already creating the script which the media will feed upon over the next few weeks.

It's like a never ending cycle. They move from one scapegoat to the next each month. Sadly people still cannot see through all of this noise.

Nobody in the media will hold the government accountable. So they can use these scapegoats as much as they want.

yeah the script is already prepared

and when are we planning on vaccinating that critical mass? because the government's actions indicate they're in no hurry to get people vaccinated

What sources you been reading? Vaccinations are being implemented as supply arrives.

There's a ****estorm with global vaccines supply with more wealthy countries having the advantage. Whats new?

I don't think even Leo or Michael can magic vaccines out of thin air.

You honestly believe were bigger boys than Germany, the US, etc

That as a small island of the coast of Western Europe with few natural resources we've got some big leverage with companies making and supplying the vaccines?

Man you should have a word with them and tell them that after Israel were the next big boys

I insinuated we are one of the wealthiest nations on the planet and we are by most metrics.

Israel are not and they are one of the global leaders in vaccine provision. It's not a straight shootout.

The highlighted bit is where we're atm and until we can get a critical mass vaccinated here.

No need for highlights. Let's do the whole thing.
Large scale physical distancing measures and movement restrictions, often referred to as ‘lockdowns’, can slow COVID‑19 transmission by limiting contact between people.

However, these measures can have a profound negative impact on individuals, communities, and societies by bringing social and economic life to a near stop. Such measures disproportionately affect disadvantaged groups, including people in poverty, migrants, internally displaced people and refugees, who most often live in overcrowded and under resourced settings, and depend on daily labour for subsistence.

WHO recognizes that at certain points, some countries have had no choice but to issue stay-at-home orders and other measures, to buy time.

Governments must make the most of the extra time granted by ‘lockdown’ measures by doing all they can to build their capacities to detect, isolate, test and care for all cases; trace and quarantine all contacts; engage, empower and enable populations to drive the societal response and more.

WHO is hopeful that countries will use targeted interventions where and when needed, based on the local situation.

Added some highlights there, for fans of such.

How far along are we in Ireland with building capacity for tracing cases and caring for those who are sick? Any idea?

Maybe you've heard something about the plan to begin targeted interventions?

Genuine question, what can we do about this now?

Protesting is banned under the guise of protecting public health, unless of course you're protesting something that our dear leaders don't want a twitter storm over, in which case fill your boots and have a lovely day.

Politicians are simply ignoring the people. I have emailed 20 public representatives about the ongoing situation, and only one bothered their hole replying.

The Media are so warped and biased that its gone beyond a joke - RTE and the others have made a disgrace of themselves while simultaneously terrifying the most vulnerable people in our country. My sick elderly father has been almost in tears with worry on numerous occasions because of their obviously agenda driven news articles.

Muppets like McConkey and his ilk seem to have as much air time as they desire to spout their sh*te and are NEVER questioned on any part of it. Who made these dopes into celebrities?

If I say that I think the 5km rule is ridiculous, I'm labelled a far right nut job and a granny killer. Nuance has totally been removed from any conversations or considerations and that is so obvious in particular on this thread.

We are being lied to, manipulated and having our futures destroyed by a group of people who are making it clear that they simply don't give a damn what we think as long as they get to enforce their rules. Whether they are right or wrong is a different question, the important thing is we have a right to question them and demand answers. Except it seems now we don't anymore

Is violence on the streets the only remaining option? I am watching my country and my life go down the toilet and we are expected to just sit here and take it.

What I cannot fathom is how this never ending procession of muppets in the media have not yet had their feathers clipped. If the government had any cop on whatsoever they would keep these fools out of the media and take control of the situation, thus helping stop some of the confusion and mixed messages.

This is what a government of absolutely spineless cowards has gotten us.

As much as I abhor any violence, I can understand why some might now think its the only possible way to get any reaction.

Don't visit your dying loved ones in hospital, don't go to your siblings funeral, don't visit your families tomorrow and now don't drink alcohol tomorrow. We also shouldn't have drank alcohol at Christmas and sales of it should have been restricted.

What is happening to the country, who are these people?

    It's a very valid point.

With their favourite secret meeting called off last year due to Corona,I would suggest that the members of the Important Peoples Network are only excira n delira at the prospect of meeting up again, even if the Irish contingent have to whisper through the keyhole.

The Meetings are held under the Chatham House Rule, which states that participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s) nor of any other participant may be revealed.

These folks do not for a second aspire to "relaxing Restrictions" of any sort.

Who said the route through the Pandemic has been perfect or that there's been no fukups?

But more importantly it's got fek all to do with the comment about WHOs stance on restrictions and lockdowns which has changed massively.

And tbf you'd excuse countries having little regard with the advice coming from WHO - when they are certainly responsible for much of the early spread of the virus by agreeing with the Chinese there was no P2P transmission (despite evidence to the contrary) or that China didn't need restrictions on its flights.

I'm not a fan of theirs - way to much to touchy feely sociological claptrap tbh.

I know personally of a person in England who is in his 20s and has been offered dates for both of his covid shots. He is perfectly healthy and has no underlying conditions.

This is such a successful vaccine rollout programme. In Ireland you could be waiting until the end of the year for someone that young.

Mr O’Donovan said: “We didn’t deal with the sale of alcohol before Christmas, we paid a very dear price for it.”

Speaking on RTÉ radio’s Today with Claire Byrne show he said: “Well before Christmas I suggested that we needed to address the volume and amount of alcohol that was on sale and the time frame by which off licences were allowed to sell alcohol, it was something that Nphet discussed, but it was something that was thrown out the window.”

“I was criticised, I was lampooned by some of my own political colleagues as something that wouldn’t work and we paid a very dear price for it.”

It amazes me that this is what the like of O'Donovan is focusing on when issues like the 5km limit, golf / tennis courses closed, a vaccine that's seen by the EMA as safe being suspended.

I'm really speechless that this is all he has to offer, alcohol isn't the reason covid spreads its people and its under control more than enough to permit outdoor activities.
Likewise a car doesn't crash itself, someone crashes it (Leaving aside self driving cars)

I don’t know what we can do in Ireland. Advising the next generation to emigrate may be the best option.

Were are the 3rd most indebted nation in the world now and have persisted to keep construction closed.

Tom Parlon is making as much noise as he can about that crisis. About 5000 less homes built this year. Essentially the younger generation have seen any future they may have had in Ireland obliterated.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.irishtimes.com/business/construction/covid-restrictions-will-result-in-5-000-fewer-homes-this-year-1.4510827%3fmode=amp
The report noted that the Government’s decision to extend the partial lockdown of the construction industry for a further six weeks until April 5th, means the construction industry will have been shut for 19 weeks since the pandemic started.

“This is giving rise to widespread repercussions for construction firms, construction workers and apprentices, clients, the industry’s supply chain, the economy and society as a whole,” it said.
The report noted that there were 59,867 construction workers in receipt of the Government’s pandemic unemployment payment (PUP) at the beginning of March, almost one in two workers (43.9 per cent) in construction here.
HSE monitoring of construction has shown minimal cases since September. This is because the industry can operate at full capacity without contributing to the spread of Covid-19.

“Ireland is the only country to shut down its construction industry, and this is having an number of unintended consequences that again are hugely detrimental and totally unnecessary.

“On a weekly basis I hear from members about the impact of the lockdown on the mental health of our workers. Thousands of workers are now considering leaving Ireland in search of work in any other jurisdiction,” Mr Parlon said.

Probably and most likley due to this little thing
The first minister said the government was on track to hit the target of giving a first dose of vaccine to all priority groups - including "a significant majority of Scotland's adult population" - by mid-April.

Yup as part of the UK they’re ahead of us in the vaccination stakes. Now there's a surprises.

I reckon going by all those who are going to flee to the north and the support here for blindly following the UK - it sounds like people are advocating leaving the EU and joining the UK.

So many loyalists- who would have thunk it eh ;)
