Hi can someone give an indication of what the salary would be like if you were to go in house once you qualify? Is is true that you usually have to take a salary cut?

While I can't quantify what the salary would be, it would largely depend on the company in question tbh. From my understanding of in house work, many people go for it as is many instances there appears to be a better work life balance. This for some people can be worth much more than having a higher salary.

How many years are your FE1s valid when you have all 8 completed? I'm thinking of going abroad for a while and don't want this effort with the FE1s to be for nothing. Life as a young person in Ireland is quite bleak tbh.

Where are these in-house TCs advertised? I have alerts set up on LinkedIn for any mention of "Trainee Solictor" and I regularly check legalvacancies.ie but never see in-house roles other than ones for those already with PQE

It's been almost a month since the Lavelle Partners TC was posted (and Mullany Walsh Maxwells), has nobody here heard anything back from them? The Lavelle one was removed from legalvacanies a while back I noticed, and not one person here has received an interview or even a PFO. A bit odd since I wouldn't have thought they'd have less applicants than the big 5-10 firms.

Anyone who applied for DE Summer Internship and not heard back holding out any hope? I saw offers were apparently sent out but can’t understand why everyone has been let know at different stages. Not feeling too hopeful myself

I don't know what to think anymore to be honest. Any updates I have received have been from this thread and even still I have only seen two people that have received rejection emails at different times. I haven't actually seen anyone being offered an intern position yet (on here, linked in etc) but I would find it most unusual for them to send out their rejections before their offers. I'm trying to be hopeful but it's getting exhausting not knowing and constantly checking my phone. Does anyone know someone who has actually received an offer?

It seems to be the case that some have received offers and some have received rejections and then there are others in limbo, can’t figure out what the reasoning behind it is or whether I need to just let it go

So strange, I was tempted to call them today but I have already sent an email so I don’t really think I can justify it.. I'm trying to remain positive but its pretty hard to with knowing people have received offers already. You'd wonder if those of us in limbo are being kept around as back ups in case someone declines an offer or something like that

Yes I think that seems to be the only reasonable explanation but I’ve also worried that maybe I just slipped through the cracks and there was an email that didn’t send correctly. I guess we just have to keep waiting it out!

All the offers are sent out in one batch, usually within a day or morning and afternoon. If someone declines an offer, the next person in line quickly gets a call. As the offers were sent out last week, sorry to say, it seems like DE is filled up for their programme. The fact that you haven't received a response is an unfortunate reflection of Irish law firms being a bit rude about not getting back to people at all.

I agree with that thought process but at the same time the fact that a lot of people have been let know and some haven’t does suggest there could be some hope that maybe not all offers have been accepted yet, who knows really. You’re probably right but I do expect to hear back seeing as a lot of others have heard one way, or another.

interesting post here about LC grades and corporate law in Ireland. I'm finished with the process myself but it's depressing seeing people hit a such a wall trying to get into firms on the basis of their Leaving Cert.

I was told by a Maples trainee at a drinks reception a couple years back that they have an informal policy of usually rejecting applicants below either 500 or 450 points. I would be happy to be corrected about this, but I think some other places have similar policies in place. I don't agree with it of course.

It seems a bit silly the emphasis they place on the LC. But it's just one of those things people should be aware of.

Definitely for the big firms - small/medium there’s not as much emphasis at all on LC

Yes this is a good point. Also, the longer you're out of college, the less exams matter, because its your experience that counts.

I am not sure if they play as big a part for some of the big firms. I have gotten a TC for one of the big 5 and my LC results were 405 but I did have good college results, work experience and extra curriculars.

Yeah I think if you can make yourself stand out in some way other than results it works !!
