    Shame that Brexit got in the way of whisky-me for me. Great wee service

    Drop of Glen Elgin CS to round out the weekend.

    I have that waiting for me. Looking forward to it. I've paused whisky-me and a few other subscription services as I can't get up North to get them with the lockdown and they were just piling up. I'd say there is nearly 30 samples waiting for me up there as it is.

    I see o briens have a whiskey sale at the moment- any suggestions on what to try?

    For reference - I’m new enough to whiskey - really enjoyed the drumshanbo pot still, redbreast 12 and kilbeggen 8, all recommended on here.
    Disliked the Connemara peat.

    I got a present of Jameson Crested 10 which I was going to return and get a contribution to a Redbreast 12 but I opened it, and I’m seriously glad I did. Such a smooth whiskey, it’s probably my new favourite.

    Agreed - tried it recently and really enjoy it, will be my go to unless three swallows is on special offer

    Green Spot seems like an obvious suggestion if you haven't had it before.

    Very nice imo, great value @ €30

    Well pleased.

    Now €25 in Tesco

    Good value at €30, exceptional at €25

    Note that Tesco have some great whiskey deals on right now for Paddys Day such as Roe & Co for €25. In comparison, it is on offer at €30 in O'Briens. Very versatile whiskey - for sipping straight, mixing or as base for cocktails.

    Specifically in O'Briens, at different price points, these catch my eye as worth trying:
    * Bushmills Black Bush €25
    * Irishman Founders Reserve €30
    * Teeling Small Batch €35
    * Fercullen 8yo €35
    * Waterford Distillery Ratheadon 1.2 €65

    Just bought 3 bottles of Three Swallows in Tesco @€;30 each. Seriously good price for a pure pot still. I rationalised it to myself that it may prevent me opening the Redbreast 10 CS.

    I never got to pick it up at any point before Christmas because something or other kept getting in the way, but you can't bate that 3S for 30. The Kilbeggan NAS may have to wait another week.

    The RB10CS will be going on the special shelf though.

    Was calling into Tesco on a near daily basis looking for Powers 3 S last time it was on sale @ 30 bucks. Eventually secured a bottle. That was a while back to delighted to hear that 3S is that price again.
    Going to take a leaf from Stimpson's book and bulk buy at that price.
    Looks like a trip to Tesco is on the cards tomorrow.
    Will pick up another Ro & Co while there. At €25 - can't be left behind.

    Nikka Coffey Grain really is a nice deep but smooth drop.

    Jesus, if I bulk bought 3S I would be out on the street with them. They're merely a nice to have, especially with a bottle and half of RB12 sitting there as well.

    Lord knows when I'd get through a full bottle of 3S to have more than one of them.

    That being said, with Powers at 20, that's another bloody steal for the de rigueur mixer whiskey. The 25euro litre bottle of christmas was a ridiculous bargain. The 700mL is coming in at 28.57/Litre. So a no brainer for the mixer shelf.

    LAUNCHING MONDAY MARCH 15TH

    Killarney Irish Whiskey is an 8 year old premium blend sourced from some of the finest distilleries in Ireland. This small batch collector's item is paired with a one-off imperial stout, marking the 8 year inception of Killarney Brewing & Distilling Co and celebrating the upcoming completion of Irelands largest independently owned and co-located distillery, brewery and visitor experience. A small batch of imperial stout was brewed to complement and enhance the flavours of this premium Killarney Irish Whiskey. The stout was then matured for 6 months in their whiskey barrels. Afterwards the whiskey was transferred back into these casks to take on the flavours of the stout.

    Yeah, I think it was too early to open the bottle, so had a nip of Redbreast 25 instead.

    I know those Killarney guys and to say they are passionate about their product is an understatement. I'm not a fan of the craft beer stuff in general but it always seems to do well. The site of their new premises is massive and I really hope the whiskey is good and does well for them.

    But this whiskey is not their product. They're just putting it in bottles.

    Well i guess nobody will force you to buy it. I likely wont buy it myself. But I still like to see people do well

    Micil Distillery have announced that they’re distilling & laying down Galway’s first Irish whiskey in over a century.
    While their own whiskey matures, they’re releasing two sourced Irish whiskeys in the summer. Interesting quote on their production process. Full article at link below.

    ‘‘Our production capacity is perhaps the smallest of any whiskey distillery in Ireland. With our small single copper pot still, we can only produce a maximum of 1 standard 200 litre cask per week, compared with the approximately 30 casks per week produced by some of the better known ‘small’ Irish distilleries and the thousands of casks a week produced by the likes of Jameson and Bushmills. Our production methods are painstakingly slow, and we do everything by hand with no automation. Our focus is purely on distilling spirits of exceptional flavour and quality, not on yields or profit margins.”

    “Our first runs have been peated single malts, using 100% Irish barley, malted using Connemara turf from our family farm in Inverin. But as we ramp up production we plan to continue to innovate, bringing the creativity and resourcefulness of the Connemara poitín distiller to the whiskey category. Our whiskeys will draw heavily on our 170 years of distilling knowledge, our historic mash bills (recipes), and our Connemara terroir & provenance.”

    Bit of drama around this. Another Killarney Distillery giving the launch a bit of grief. Some choice tweets below.

    WARNING: THIS IS CUTE KERRY HOORISM! This whisky was not made in Killarney. It is an attempted hijacking of the valuable brand that is #LoveKillarney and all that it represents. We are the first distillery in Killarney and our whisky is ready in 2023. Get behind us ye hoors! https://t.co/UanDYcctoU

    #Kerry and #Killarney all over it but where did it truthfully come from? Not Killarney or anywhere else in Kerry. Guessing made in West Cork. Can any of the many shareholders confirm? https://t.co/kgKPa94t5m

    Keep it real is right. Great #Killarney bread. Made here in Killarney. Not cynically bought in from some other random mystery bakery and with a faux Killarney label slapped on..... have a nice #breakfast! #killarneymeanskillarney
