What Whisky/Whiskey are we drinking this month?

I know there's a thread on recommending Whiskeys/Whiskys but there's none on general tasting as far as I can see.

Similar premise to the beer thread, but we'll say month instead of week as drinking a €50/60 bottle of Whiskey/Whisky a week is probably not a good idea...

I picked up a bottle of The Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve on my travels recently. No age statement.

Not the most complex Whisky in the world. It's quite nice though, smooth and fruity, very strong taste of pears, and a tiny bit of spice. Drank with a splash of water.

I see o briens have a whiskey sale at the moment- any suggestions on what to try?

For reference - I’m new enough to whiskey - really enjoyed the drumshanbo pot still, redbreast 12 and kilbeggen 8, all recommended on here.
Disliked the Connemara peat.

Green Spot seems like an obvious suggestion if you haven't had it before.

Note that Tesco have some great whiskey deals on right now for Paddys Day such as Roe & Co for €25. In comparison, it is on offer at €30 in O'Briens. Very versatile whiskey - for sipping straight, mixing or as base for cocktails.

Specifically in O'Briens, at different price points, these catch my eye as worth trying:
* Bushmills Black Bush €25
* Irishman Founders Reserve €30
* Teeling Small Batch €35
* Fercullen 8yo €35
* Waterford Distillery Ratheadon 1.2 €65

Just bought 3 bottles of Three Swallows in Tesco @€;30 each. Seriously good price for a pure pot still. I rationalised it to myself that it may prevent me opening the Redbreast 10 CS.

I never got to pick it up at any point before Christmas because something or other kept getting in the way, but you can't bate that 3S for 30. The Kilbeggan NAS may have to wait another week.

The RB10CS will be going on the special shelf though.

Was calling into Tesco on a near daily basis looking for Powers 3 S last time it was on sale @ 30 bucks. Eventually secured a bottle. That was a while back to delighted to hear that 3S is that price again.
Going to take a leaf from Stimpson's book and bulk buy at that price.
Looks like a trip to Tesco is on the cards tomorrow.
Will pick up another Ro & Co while there. At €25 - can't be left behind.

Jesus, if I bulk bought 3S I would be out on the street with them. They're merely a nice to have, especially with a bottle and half of RB12 sitting there as well.

Lord knows when I'd get through a full bottle of 3S to have more than one of them.

That being said, with Powers at 20, that's another bloody steal for the de rigueur mixer whiskey. The 25euro litre bottle of christmas was a ridiculous bargain. The 700mL is coming in at 28.57/Litre. So a no brainer for the mixer shelf.

I know those Killarney guys and to say they are passionate about their product is an understatement. I'm not a fan of the craft beer stuff in general but it always seems to do well. The site of their new premises is massive and I really hope the whiskey is good and does well for them.

Micil Distillery have announced that they’re distilling & laying down Galway’s first Irish whiskey in over a century.
While their own whiskey matures, they’re releasing two sourced Irish whiskeys in the summer. Interesting quote on their production process. Full article at link below.

‘‘Our production capacity is perhaps the smallest of any whiskey distillery in Ireland. With our small single copper pot still, we can only produce a maximum of 1 standard 200 litre cask per week, compared with the approximately 30 casks per week produced by some of the better known ‘small’ Irish distilleries and the thousands of casks a week produced by the likes of Jameson and Bushmills. Our production methods are painstakingly slow, and we do everything by hand with no automation. Our focus is purely on distilling spirits of exceptional flavour and quality, not on yields or profit margins.”
