It's a tiny sample after millions have had the vaccine. Not buying the 'bad batch' stuff, either, not the first batch made.

More will die if they're not vaccinated, than a tiny percentage who react badly to a vaccine.

Or to put that another way, you are statistically more likely to develop a blood clot in the general population than you are if you are administered an AstraZeneca vaccine.

Did you miss my point about UK having already received different batches to the ones under question ?
    You mist have .
Also the fact that blood clots occur naturally is not the point either . These are previously well healthcare workers who suffered a pretty major thromboembolitic event within days of getting the vaccine , not elderly or vulnerable people .

I saw your comment. Doesn't explain Thailand for example who wouldn't have a batch from Europe and have suspended pending the outcome of the investigation in Europe.

We wait and see the EMA say. Until then little point in speculation.

And, what will delaying a week accomplish? Nothing. Just lower the confidence in vaccines, energize the anti-vax hooligans and cost more lives. If I were into CT, I'd wonder about Ireland declaring a moratorium during St. Patrick's week... HSE'ers looking for some time off?

It's bad science though. Do the investigation, see if it comes up with something, then suspend. These vaccines have been tested to a fare-thee-well at this point.

Static Jac on Reddit Ireland's weekly comparison

Those weekly numbers are a way more accurate picture alright .
    Coming down..slowly .
Interesting to see reducing numbers in hospital by age as per Spookwoman's graph too .
Only 8 people in over 65 group in hospital .

I see where your coming from & I agree there's been plenty of testing, but I think it's better to put the brakes on and be 100% sure, give people the confidence that these issues have been looked into, don't give anti vax any extra ammo.

I do hope it'll be relatively short lived. Personally if offered it tomorrow I'd still take it.

Don't take false comfort in today's numbers.

They will likely increase tomorrow and Tuesday.

There's no guarantee that will happen

Some of the people on here saying the same thing would be the same ones slating NIAC and NPHET if a vaccine was left continue without adequate attention to adverse events .
You can see an example of that jumping on the bandwagon all over this and the vaccine thread .
Also you do realise the " batches " are not all made in the same place ?

It has to be reviewed and investigated with due process , nothing else is acceptable .

No . But as I said about Thailand, that makes the situation worse if more widespread .
No speculation , I leave that to others, but no minimising either .
This is a serious setback , but hopefully the investigation will say it is just a red herring.
Better to have it paused and checked out though .

Look at that amazing run we had in the middle of last Summer. Why didn't Leo/Martin ease some Restrictions then?

There will be poems written about Week 26 someday

    Week 25 - 97

    Week 26 - 67

    Week 27 - 94

Funnily enough it was also the only realistic chance of attempting something close to zero-covid, but they did neither.

People are saying the Biden thing will be a waste of time... you never know though. The US vaccinated 4.6million people yesterday, thats staggering. Biden might say that because of Irish roots, we'll be given 100,000 doses. Small fry for the US, but thats a good chunk of our over 75s.

Or put it this way, it'll get us to the top of the list of countries likely to get some leftovers from the US. Its certainly worth a shot.

Martin saying "I rang Boris and he said he's none to spare yet" and he's saying now he'll ask Biden? :pac:

When will people realise how much of politics is complete optics and window dressing?

He already knows the answers to both these calls. If he even made/will make them in the first place

    All for show

    Nothing to see here

Are they going into a national lockdown or are they having regional variations.

All true. And the opposition parties spend their time criticising the government's vaccine rollout, and say the government should do more (it was Mary Lou who demanded the government pick up the phone to AZ). But they know full well there is literally nothing that can be done about vaccine supplies at this point in time. It is all just vacuous noise.

Why couldn't the Six Nations tournament have been concluded last Autumn, when other sporting events were allowed to resume after the first lockdown, instead of continuing the tournament this year?

    Huh?

Indeed. MM is having these conversations purely because they know the opposition will use it as a stick to beat him with if he doesn't. He knows full well nothing will come of them.

Will we escape this Wave now happening in parts of Europe because of our late December/early January surge?

As in, have we already had this Wave? Or is it still to come?

I think we had this wave in December/January when the Kent variant arrived

That now appears to have become prolific across Europe

Its the UK variant b117. We've had our third wave associated with it. Still no one with a fourth wave. But it looks like everyone is getting the third no matter what they do.

The "surge" on mainland Europe (as well as the US) is being put down to the UK variant spreading. We've already seen that effect

Their would still be too many people with no immunity. So it could happen yea

So the Brits left Europe, left a bad smell all over Europe (the variant) and then managed to get a good chunk or vaccines out of Europe.

COVID recoveries will reach over 100 million in the coming week, if WHO estimates of a few months ago are still accurate, it could be well over a billion people recovered from COVID by next week . It's so mad to think that just over the last year, despite all the global efforts to contain it, that 1 in 7 people everywhere on earth could have had COVID by now!

It can be explained away in a multitude of different excuses, but I absolutely believe Boris lifted AZ stock meant for the EU

    Sounds high

Surely that includes Asymptomatic cases too? Currently at 25% - 33% depending on the report you read

1 in every 20 have Long Covid too and they'll still be listed as Recovered

Regional, outside of a small national lockdown (but Sardinia) on the 3-4-5 of April (while still allowing two households to meet to celebrate Easter)
