Just been talking to a friend who is in mid 30s living in UK. Had his first dose of vaccine already 2nd one booked in for early April. Would be perfectly healthy no underlying conditions.

Anyone north of the border can book a vaccine in the odyssey for next day I'm reliably informed.;)

Yes. Also as the numbers come down small blips can be proportionally larger

Probably commented on already but today's GP figures were the best so far in 2021 so a bit of hope there too.

Questions about Kildare & Meath, they've been reporting high enough numbers now for the last few days.

No solace in looking at the rolling average either.

And the start of this week was so promising

Really should be a good review of some of those counties there to see why cases are still so high. There are outbreaks somewhere so they should be heavily focused on and allow the rest of us go back. Fair few counties there with very low numbers like.

    646 Cases

    10 Deaths

I see Zara King was late with the figures

344 in hospital and 87 in ICU! Should be down below 300 next week.

    We are going nowhere fast.

This crap will never end under this government and NPHET.

Cases won't be low enough for any real change come april 5th

Construction at a push will be the only thing that could change

Majority of schools are back next week.....in the next 4 weeks all trade apprentices will be returning to their training centres across all counties which means that they will be crossing the country and mixing in their training centres so it's moving along all the same

And evening classes will be returning in the training centres in the 2nd week of April as well.

Shock, horror as people discover those who are in charge of managing our joke of a public health service are also completely mismanaging the response to the pandemic.

Deffo and we need to be told as well. Dublin has certainly seen a steady rise this week and other counties in the Pale likewise, so is it business as usual on the industrial estates around the city?

Huge impact financially . They may have no choice

A bit of calm is required, yes its disappointing but we've seen this pattern before. Cases will stabilise at 500-600 cases for the next few days and then they'll start dropping again. Keep the faith.

Whatever else people may have to say about them they are not causing the cases.

Those numbers aren't great. Hard to know what would work at this stage other than faster vaccine roll out.

Relax folks. Case numbers are meaningless by themselves. Even NPHET themselves said as much nearly a year ago. They are just spinning a narrative here.

Hospitalisations, ICUs and death figures are the true acid test here.

As long as those key metrics continue to fall, it is entirely unacceptable to begin re-opening without undue delay.

Last 7 days 53 more cases than positive swabs.

Loads of construction workers are already leaving for the UK.

Fair enough...Are ICU/hospital cases still reducing???

Spot on....as soon as all the vulnerable people are vaccinated then they will open up everything. They don't care how many young people get it because they won't need hospitals as much as the vulnerable.

I still wouldn't jump to conclusions for a few more days yet. Things have plateaued at times before. We have to wait and see. I hope that things won't start stalling.

But, let's be honest here, there has been more "life" going on generally over the last few weeks. Not just kids going to school, but other things too - a lot of people I know wouldn't have been meeting up with people even a very short while ago, now I know that people are less reluctant to do that. People are generally less stringent than they were a few weeks ago. I don't find it particularly surprising myself that numbers are perhaps stalling a bit - there's more and more life and more activity taking place, you can't have more of that and expect less cases.

BTW, before someone jumps down my throat and accuses me of not understanding basic human nature. I do get it.

People feel isolated and lonely, with not a lot to look forward too. I understand people may want to meet that one person this week. I do get the motivation. It is hard to maintain total efforts at all times. People are only human and fallible.

But, unfortunately, the more we interact the more the virus spreads. And the longer it goes on. I don't particularly judge people for wanting to meet other people, but we need to be honest too - there is a trade off in the end about how the results of that plays out across the population and it does essentially prolong things. It's a tough situation.

But, we might get lucky and the numbers might start going in the right direction again. We'll see.

ICU numbers range from all ages . You would need all people over 50 vaccinated . That won't be until august

Weight of numbers would be a problem. A fair cohort between 45-70 end up in hospital. We're a long way from vaccinating that demographic. My mam, 87, is 2 weeks away from her second jab.

Varadkar threatening no easing of restrictions if cases go up on Virgin Media

I'm not sure threatening people who are already complying is a great tactic
